We have observed the production of the Ds± by a high-energy neutron beam on nuclear targets. The Ds± was observed in the decay mode Ds±→φπ±, φ→K+K−. The average of the inclusive cross sections for Ds+ and Ds− hadroproduction is measured to be BdσdxF=2.85±0.80±0.86 μb/nucleon at xF=0.175 on the assumption of a linear A dependence, where B≡Γ(Ds±→φπ±)Γ(Ds±→all).

We present results of our systematic studies of charged-shower-particle multiplicities and their dependence on pseudorapidity intervals for nearly central events produced by S32 at 200 GeV/nucleon and O16 at 200 and 60 GeV/nucleon in nuclear emulsion. An increase in the particle density with the increase of particle energy and mass is observed. We find an energy-independent linear relation between the maximum particle density (in a given pseudorapidity interval) and shower-particle multiplicity.

Partial production cross sections of projectile alpha fragments produced in high-energy interactions of 16 O and 32 S at 200 GeV/n and 16 O at 60 GeV/n in emulsion are studied. Evidence of multiplicity scaling of such produced fragments is presented in the energy range 2–200 GeV/n for various projectiles.

A total of 22 muon-neutrino-electron elastic-scattering events (νμe→νμe) have been observed in an exposure of the Fermilab 15-foot bubble chamber filled with a heavy neon-hydrogen mixture to a wide-band neutrino beam. The elastic-scattering cross section is measured to be 1.67±0.44×10−42Eν cm2 GeV−1. The value of the weak mixing angle (sin2θW) determined from this cross section, which is consistent with other measurements of this angle, is 0.20−0.05+0.06.

Measurements of the cross section for production of massive dihadrons by 800-GeV protons incident on a tungsten target are presented. These are compared with measurements taken at lower and higher s and with perturbative-QCD predictions. Scaling and A-dependence behaviors observed at lower energies are confirmed, and good agreement with QCD is obtained. Model dependences of earlier measurements are discussed.

Triple differential cross section. Note that the errors plotted in the original figure are 2 time too large. The numbers given here are correct.
Total and differential cross sections for νμe→νμe and ν¯μe→ν¯μe are measured. Values for the model-independent neutral-current couplings of the electron are found to be gV=−0.107±0.035(stat)±0.028(syst) and gA=−0.514±0.023(stat)±0.028(syst). The electroweak mixing parameter sin2θW is determined to be 0.195±0.018(stat)±0.013(syst). Limits are set for the charge radius and magnetic moment of the neutrino as (〈r2〉)<0.24×10−32 cm2 and fμ<0.85×10−9 Bohr magnetons, respectively.

A precise measurement of the atomic-mass dependence of dimuon production induced by 800-GeV protons is reported. Over 450 000 muon pairs with dimuon mass M≥4 GeV were recorded from targets of H2, C, Ca, Fe, and W. The ratio of dimuon yield per nucleon for nuclei versus H2, R=YA/Y2H, is sensitive to modifications of the antiquark sea in nuclei. No nuclear dependence of this ratio is observed over the range of target-quark momentum fraction 0.1<xt<0.3. For xt<0.1 the ratio is slightly less than unity for the heavy nuclei. These results are compared with predictions of models of the European Muon Collaboration effect.

The yield of J/ψ and ψ’ vector-meson states has been measured for 800-GeV protons incident on deuterium, carbon, calcium, iron, and tungsten targets. A depletion of the yield per nucleon from heavy nuclei is observed for both J/ψ and ψ’ production. This depletion exhibits a strong dependence on xF and pt. Within experimental errors the depletion is the same for the J/ψ and the ψ’.
