$\rho^0$ Production in $\pi^- p$ Interactions at 100-{GeV}/$c$, 200-{GeV}/$c$ and 360-{GeV}/$c$

Inclusive and semi-inclusive cross sections for gp0 production in 100, 200, and 360 GeV/c π−p interactions are presented. Differential cross sections for ρ0 production as functions of c.m. rapidity and transverse momentum are compared with the corresponding differential cross sections for pion production. Effects of various methods of estimating background on the values obtained for ρ0 production cross sections are discussed. About 10% of the final-state charged pions appear to come from ρ0 decay. Thus, while ρ0 production and decay is a significant source of final-state pions, other sources must contribute the majority of the produced pions.

Inclusive and semi-inclusive distributions of γ's and π 0 's in the reactions K + p → γ + X and K + p → π 0 + X at 32 GeV/ c are presented and discussed. When compared to the inclusive π − production, the π 0 cross section is found to be significantly higher in low | x | and p T regions. The data are compared with other experiments and quark fusion model predictions.

Properties of Inclusive pi+- Production in 100-GeV/c anti-Proton-Proton Interactions

Inclusive spectra are presented for π± production in 100-GeV/cp¯p interactions. The rapidity distribution for the difference (p¯p−pp) approximately scales as the difference in total cross sections in the fragmentation region between 12 and 100 GeV/c and exhibits an approximate s−12dependence in the central region.

Eta and omega Meson Production in Medium-Energy pi+- p and K- p Interactions

The production of η(550) and ω(780) mesons is studied in π ± p interactions at 16 GeV/ c and K − p interactions at 10 and 16 GeV/ c . Cross sections for exclusive channels are presented, and for the π + p data differential cross sections are given for quasi-inclusive production where the η or ω is required to be accompanied by charged particles only. Close similarities are observed between η, ω and also ϱ 0 (770) production in terms of longitudinal and transverse variables. By a rough estimate, the η, ω and ϱ 0 inclusive yields are found to be in the ratio 0.32 : 0.85 : 1, respectively, for 16 GeV/ c π + p collisions. For non-peripheral production we estimate this same ratio to be 0.34 : 0.9 : 1.
