Evidence for b flavored baryon production in Z0 decays at LEP

Inspire Record 333300 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48511

We observe evidence for the production of b-flavoured baryons in decays of the Z 0 boson with the OPAL detector at LEP. We find 68 Λl − , Λ l + candidates in 458 583 hadronic Z 0 decays. We interpret this as a signal of 55 ± 9 +0.3 −3.1 events from the semi-leptonic decays of b baryons. Assuming weakly decaying b baryons produced in Z 0 decays are mostly Λ b particles, we measure the product branching ratio (Γ b b /Γ had ) f ( b →Λ b ) B (Λ b →Λl − v X ) , averaged over the electron and muon channels, to be (6.2±1.0±1.5)×10 −4 .

Neutrino production of same sign dimuons at the Fermilab Tevatron

Sandler, P.H. ; Kinnel, T.S. ; Smith, W.H. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 57 (1993) 1-12, 1993.
Inspire Record 32390 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.14493

The rate of neutrino- and antineutrino-induced prompt same-sign dimuon production in steel was measured using a sample of μ−μ− events and 25 μ+μ+ events withPμ>9 GeV/c, produced in 1.5 millionvμ and 0.3 million\(\overline {v_\mu}\) induced charged-current events with energies between 30 GeV and 600 GeV. The data were obtained with the Chicago-Columbia-Fermilab-Rochester (CCFR) neutrino detector in the Fermilab Tevatron Quadrupole Triplet Neutrino Beam during experiments E 744 and E 770. After background subtraction, the prompt rate of same-sign dimuon production is (0.53±0.24)×10−4 pervμ charged-current event and (0.52±0.33)×10−4 per\(\overline {v_\mu}\) charged-current event. The kinematic distributions of the same-sign dimuon events after background subtraction are consistent with those of the non-prompt background due to meson decays in the hadron shower of a charged-current event. Calculations ofc\(\bar c\) gluon bremsstrahlung, based on improved measurements of the charm mass parameter and nucleon structure functions by the CCFR collaboration, yield a prompt rate of (0.09±0.39)×10−4 pervμ charged-current event. In this case,c\(\bar c\) gluon bremsstrahlung is probably not an observable source of prompt same-sign dimuons.

anti-p + p ---> K+ + K- + pi+ + pi- reaction in the momentum range 400-MeV/c to 670-MeV/c

Phys.Rev.D 46 (1992) 2787-2791, 1992.
Inspire Record 345813 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.22761

The cross sections for the reaction p¯+p→K++K−+π++π− were measured at six momenta from 400 to 670 MeV/c. Various effective mass distributions indicate that about 37% of the reaction involves K*0 or K¯*0, 16% proceeds via the intermediate state K*0+K¯*0, about 21% involves ρ, 5% proceeds via the ϕ+ρ state, and the rest follows phase space.

Particle ratios of high x(t) hadrons in p A interactions at s**(1/2) = 38.8-GeV.

Straub, P.B. ; Jaffe, D.E. ; Glass, H.D. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 45 (1992) 3030-3037, 1992.
Inspire Record 342598 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.22727

We report measurements of the ratios K+π+, pπ+, K−π−, p¯π−, π−π+, K−K+, and p¯p for hadrons with 0.19<xt<0.62 produced in p−Be and p−W collisions at s=38.8 GeV. The K+π+ ratio at high xt gives the fragmentation-function ratio DuK+Duπ+ at high z. The high-xt K−π− ratio gives an upper limit for DdK−Ddπ− at high z. The pt dependence of pπ+ suggests that scattered constituent diquarks are the primary source of protons with pt<6 GeV/c. We also present species correlations in high-mass h+h− pairs. Strong K+K− and pp¯ correlations were observed.

Determination of $alpha_{s}$ in second order {QCD} from hadronic $Z$ decays

The DELPHI collaboration Abreu, P. ; Adam, W. ; Adami, F. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 54 (1992) 55-74, 1992.
Inspire Record 333272 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.14603

Distributions of event shape variables obtained from 120600 hadronicZ decays measured with the DELPHI detector are compared to the predictions of QCD based event generators. Values of the strong coupling constant αs are derived as a function of the renormalization scale from a quantitative analysis of eight hadronic distributions. The final result, αs(MZ), is based on second order perturbation theory and uses two hadronization corrections, one computed with a parton shower model and the other with a QCD matrix element model.

Results are given on total inclusive cross sections and theA dependence, as well as on distributions in Feynman-xF, rapidityy and transverse momentum. Ratios ofKS0 and of Λ to π+ production are presented. The data are compared with predictions of the quark-parton model FRITIOF.

Cross-sections of backward proton production in 40-GeV/c pi- (K-, anti-p) A interactions

Nucl.Phys.A 536 (1992) 637-647, 1992.
Inspire Record 337176 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36704

The inclusive cross sections of backward proton production in π − ( K − , p ) -Be, Al, Cu, Pb interactions at 40 GeV/ c are presented. Protons have been detected in the angular range 150°–165° and kinetic energy region 0.1–0.3 GeV. The invariant cross-section ratios for various beam particles are independent of the values of kinetic energy and of the nuclear target type: 〈ƒ K − /ƒ π − 〉= 0.87 ± 0.03 stat ± 0.03 syst , 〈ƒ p /ƒ π − 〉 = 1.82 ± 0.10 stat ± 0.05 syst . The A -dependence of the cross-section slope parameter for A ⩾27 is less than ∼2%.
