The inclusive production cross sections and mean multiplicities of π±, K±, p, and p¯ in e+e− annihilation at a c.m. energy of 29 GeV have been measured with the time-projection chamber at PEP, using ionization energy loss to separate particle types. On average, 10.7±0.6 π±, 1.35±0.13 K±, and 0.60±0.08 p,p¯ are contained in an annihilation event. The fraction of pions among final-state particles decreases from over 95% at 0.3 GeV/c momentum to about 60% at high momentum; the kaon and proton fractions rise correspondingly.

Inclusive Photoproduction of Neutral Strange Particles at 20-{GeV}

The SLAC Hybrid Facility Photon collaboration Abe, K. ; Bacon, T.C. ; Ballam, Joseph ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 29 (1984) 1877, 1984.
Inspire Record 190724 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23774

We have studied inclusive production of KS0, Λ, and Λ¯ particles in 20-GeV γp interactions and have found features similar to those observed in both hadronic and leptonic interactions. The production cross sections, charged-particle multiplicities, and average Λ polarization are reported. Inclusive distributions of x and pT are shown and discussed in terms of quark fragmentation models. Production cross sections for K*(890) and Σ*(1385) are also reported.

Production of $\pi^0$ mesons in muon - hydrogen interactions at 200-GeV

The European Muon collaboration Aubert, J.J. ; Bassompierre, G. ; Becks, K.H. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 18 (1983) 189, 1983.
Inspire Record 189283 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.16369

Thez andpT2 distributions of π0 mesons produced by the interaction of 200 GeV muons on hydrogen are presented. Comparisons are made with other π0 and charged hadron data and with the predictions of perturbative QCD. The data show a rise of 〈pT2〉 withW2 which is consistent with QCD, and withz2 which requires a contribution from a primordialkT. The fraction of total energy which appears as π0 mesons is 0.27±0.05.

Production of Charmed Particles in 250-GeV mu+ - Iron Interactions

The European Muon collaboration Aubert, J.J. ; Bassompierre, G. ; Becks, K.H. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 213 (1983) 31-64, 1983.
Inspire Record 180921 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.46965

Dimuon and trimuon events produced by the interaction of 250 GeV muons in an iron target have been studied and are shown to originate predominantly from charm production. The data are used to measure the contribution of charm to the nucleon structure function F 2 . The cross sections for real photoproduction ( Q 2 =0) of charm in the current fragmentation region are derived as a function of photon energy and are found to be ∼0.6% of the total, hadronic photoproduction cross section in this energy range. The measured cross sections are found to be well represented by the photon-gluon fusion model. The charmed quark fragmentation function is obtained by using this model to fit the measured decay muon energy distribution and is found to be well represented by exp(1.6±1.6) Z . The data are used to study the momentum distribution of the gluons in the nucleon. An upper limit of 1.4% (90% confidence level) is set on the branching ratio D→ μν and a model-dependent upper limit on the branching ratio F→ μν is derived.

Production of ϱ 0 , K ∗0 , K ∗0 , and φ have been measured in proton-proton collisions at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR) at low p T in the central region. The transverse mass spectra are well described by exp (− aμ T ), with a = −6.4±0.2 GeV −1 . The cross sections for d σ/ d y| y=0 are 6.5±0.8±1.2 mb for ϱ 0 , 1.9±0.3±0.3 mb for K ∗) , 1.9±03±03 mb for K ∗0 , and 60.±0.12±0.13 mb for φ , where the first error is statistical and the second is sytematic.

New High Statistics Data on $K^- p \to$ Two-body Final States Over the Center-of-mass Energy Range 1720-{MeV} to 1796-{MeV}

Nucl.Phys.B 193 (1981) 21-52, 1981.
Inspire Record 156542 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.2930

Data are presented from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment to K − p interactions over the c.m. energy range 1720 to 1796 MeV. Channel cross sections, differential cross sections and, where appropriate, polarisation distributions have been obtained for the final states K − p , K 0 n , π 0 Λ and π ± Σ ∓ . These data are compared with those from previously published experiments and with the predictions from the RL-IC 77 partial-wave amplitudes for each of these channels.

PROTON DEUTERON ELASTIC SCATTERING AT 800-MeV

Winkelmann, E. ; Bevington, P.R. ; Mcnaughton, M.W. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 21 (1980) 2535-2541, 1980.
Inspire Record 158610 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26340

Differential cross sections and polarization analyzing powers for proton-deuteron elastic scattering have been measured at 800 MeV incident proton kinetic energy over the range of center-of-mass angles from 14.1° to 153.6°. The differential cross sections are described by the Glauber theory of impulse approximation at forward angles (−t<0.5) and exhibit the exponential dependence on cosθc.m. typical for these energies at backward angles (cosθc.m.<−0.5). The analyzing power shows considerable structure with strong positive peaks at forward and backward angles and a sharp dip at t=−0.4 typical at intermediate energies. There is no evidence for correspondence of the angular dependence of the analyzing power with that for the pp→dπ+ reaction. At large momentum transfer the data favor calculations based on multiple scattering with a modified deuteron form factor rather than N* exchange. NUCLEAR REACTIONS H2(p,p)H2, E=800 MeV, measured σ(θ) and Ay(θ).

MEASUREMENT OF J / psi PRODUCTION IN 280-GeV/c mu+ IRON INTERACTIONS

The European Muon collaboration Aubert, J.J. ; Bassompierre, G. ; Becks, K.H. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 89 (1980) 267-270, 1980.
Inspire Record 143938 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27264

Virtual photoproduction of J/ ψ mesons has been measured for 280 GeV muon iron interactions in an iron/scintillator calorimeter target. The J/ψ's were identified by their decay into muon pairs. 315 events were observed, about half of which were elastic. The t , Q 2 and v distributions of these elastic events are presented. The v dependence is measured between 40 and 180 Mev and compared with lower energy photoproduction results. The Q 2 dependence is compared with the predictions of the vector dominance model.

The Reactions K- p --> pi-+ Sigma+- at 4.2-GeV/c

The Amsterdam-CERN-Nijmegen-Oxford collaboration Massaro, G.G.G. ; Barlag, S. ; de Groot, A.J. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 66 (1977) 385-389, 1977.
Inspire Record 110532 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27595

We present differential cross sections and the Σ + polarization for the reactions K − p → π ∓ Σ ± using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment at 4.2 GeV/ c incident momentum. The statistical level allows a detailed analysis of these reactions over the whole t range. Several significant structures are observed. Comparisons are made with SU(3)-related reactions; for backward production of π − Σ + such a comparison shows good evidence for Δ exchange. The exotic forward peak in K − p → π + Σ − is definitely confirmed.
