OBSERVATION OF psi PRODUCTION IN e+ e- ANNIHILATION AT 29-GeV

Phys.Rev.D 38 (1988) 1001, 1988.
Inspire Record 260717 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.18617

Inclusive ψ production in e+e− annihilation at 29 GeV has been measured with the Mark II detector. The ψ cross section is found to be 1.1±0.5±0.4 pb. After subtraction of the expected contribution from B decay, an upper limit of 0.02σμμ is obtained for other sources of ψ production.

Total cross-section for p + p ---> p + p + pi0 near threshold measured with the Indiana cooler

Meyer, H.O. ; Ross, M.A. ; Pollock, R.E. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 65 (1990) 2846-2849, 1990.
Inspire Record 305682 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19936

The total cross section for the reaction pp→ppπ0 was measured at nine center-of-mass energies from 1.5 to 23 MeV above threshold. The experiment was carried out with the Indiana Cooler, a recently constructed storage ring. The experimental advantages of an electron-cooled proton beam were utilized. The data cover an energy range where only the lowest possible angular momentum state contributes in the exit channel. The measured energy dependence of the total cross section is not compatible with that predicted by models of s-wave pion production and rescattering.

Nuclear dependence of high x(t) hadron and high tau hadron pair production in p A interactions at s**(1/2) = 38.8-GeV

Phys.Rev.Lett. 68 (1992) 452-455, 1992.
Inspire Record 335754 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19847

We present a high-statistics, species-identified measurement of the W-to-Be per-nucleon cross-section ratio, RW/Be, for high-xt hadrons and high-τ h+h− pairs produced in p-A collisions at √s =38.8 GeV. The data extend to 0.62 in xt and 0.39 in √τ . For single hadrons, RW/Be peaks at pt≊5 GeV/c and decreases to ≊1 for mesons with pt>8 GeV/c. At fixed pt, RW/Be falls with √s . For symmetric pairs with √τ >0.28, RW/Be=0.84±0.02±0.07, suggesting a nuclear suppression of high-z fragmentation. RW/Be increases with pout, indicative of constituent multiple scattering.

Measurements of the electric and magnetic form-factors of the proton from Q**2 = 1.75-GeV/c**2 to 8.83-GeV/c**2

Phys.Rev.Lett. 68 (1992) 3841-3844, 1992.
Inspire Record 332962 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19849

The proton elastic electric and magnetic form factors, GEp(Q2) and GMp(Q2), have been separately measured in the range Q2=1.75 to 8.83 (GeV/c)2, more than doubling the Q2 range of previous data. Scaled by the dipole fit, GD(Q2), the results for GMp(Q2)/μpGD(Q2) decrease smoothly from 1.05 to 0.91, while GEp(Q2)/GD(Q2) is consistent with unity. Comparisons are made to QCD sum rule, diquark, constitutent quark, and vector meson dominance models, none of which agree with all of the new data. The ratio Q2F2/F1 approaches a constant value for Q2>3 (GeV/c)2.

Determination of $\alpha^- s$ From a Differential Jet Multiplicity Distribution at {SLC} and {PEP}

Phys.Rev.Lett. 64 (1990) 987, 1990.
Inspire Record 283630 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19937

We measured the differential jet-multiplicity distribution in e+e− annihilation with the Mark II detector. This distribution is compared with the second-order QCD prediction and αs is determined to be 0.123±0.009±0.005 at √s≊MZ (at the SLAC Linear Collider) and 0.149±0.002±0.007 at √s=29 GeV (at the SLAC storage ring PEP). The running of αs between these two center-of-mass energies is consistent with the QCD prediction.

Direct Photon Production at High $p_T$ in $\pi^-$Be and pBe Collisions at 500 GeV/c

Alverson, G. ; Baker, W.F. ; Ballocchi, G. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 68 (1992) 2584-2587, 1992.

We report new measurements of inclusive direct photon production at high transverse momenta (pT) for π− and p interactions on Be at 500 GeV/c. The yields as a function of pT and rapidity (y) are in good agreement with expectations from next-to-leading-log QCD calculations employing recently extracted quark and gluon structure functions.
