Inclusive production ofK0 andK* (892)0 mesons inK+A-interactions (A=Be, Cu, Pb) at the energy 11.2 GeV has been investigated to study hadronisation of the leading\(\bar s\)-quark; the results are presented. Double differential cross sections d2σ/dxfdpt2 were measured in the region of incident particle fragmentation (0.4≦xf≦1,pt≦0.5 GeV/c). The experimental data obtained were analysed on the basis of the Lund model FRITIOF and a quark-gluon model that takes into account colour screening and hadron formation length effects. The experimental data confirm the picture of hadronisation of the leading\(\bar s\)-quark developed in the latter model.

Determination of $alpha_{s}$ in second order {QCD} from hadronic $Z$ decays

The DELPHI collaboration Abreu, P. ; Adam, W. ; Adami, F. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 54 (1992) 55-74, 1992.
Inspire Record 333272 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.14603

Distributions of event shape variables obtained from 120600 hadronicZ decays measured with the DELPHI detector are compared to the predictions of QCD based event generators. Values of the strong coupling constant αs are derived as a function of the renormalization scale from a quantitative analysis of eight hadronic distributions. The final result, αs(MZ), is based on second order perturbation theory and uses two hadronization corrections, one computed with a parton shower model and the other with a QCD matrix element model.

The Temperatures of protons and pi- mesons in central nucleus-nucleus interactions at a momentum of 4.5-GeV/c per incident nucleon

Chkhaidze, L. ; Dzhobava, T. ; Kharkhelauri, L. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 54 (1992) 179-183, 1992.
Inspire Record 339571 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.14709

An estimate of the temperature of protons andπ− mesons in central He−Li, He−C, C−C, C−Ne, C−Cu, C−Pb, O−Pb, Mg−Mg interactions is presented. The results indicate an increase of the proton temperature with increasing mass numbers of projectile and target nuclei (Ap,AT) fromTp=(118±3) MeV for He−Li toTp=(141±2) MeV for C−Pb. The temperature ofπ− mesons does not depend onAP,AT andTπ≃95 MeV. A satisfactory fit forπ− mesons in C−Cu, C−Pb, O−Pb, Mg−Mg collisions can be achieved by using a form involving two temperatures,T1 andT2. The relative yield of the high temperature component (T2) is ≅24% for C−Cu, C−Pb, and Mg−Mg interactions. The observed results forTP in C−Ne, C−Cu and C−Pb collisions are consistent with the prediction of the thermodynamic hagedorn model.

The process γγ→π+π− was measured using the detector MD-1 at VEPP-4. The two-photon reactionse+e−, μ+ μ− and π+ π− pair production were separated using scintillation counters, Cherenkov counters and shower-range chambers. A radiation widthГγγ(f2(1270))=3.1±0.35±0.35 keV was obtained.

Comparison of inclusive inelastic scattering of pi+ and pi- from nuclei at 100-MeV

Rosenzweig, D.P. ; Amann, J.F. ; Boudrie, R.L. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 46 (1992) 1968-1973, 1992.
Inspire Record 348116 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26086

Inclusive inelastic scattering spectra from C, Ca, Sn, and Pb were measured for 100-MeV pions at a number of angles. The observed ratios of the π− and π+ total inelastic cross sections for the different targets are explained in terms of a simple model which is based on the assumption that the scattered pion has interacted with only one nucleon. This model also accounts for the ratio between normal and charge-exchange scattering cross sections at 100 MeV.

He-3 and He-4 production by 800-MeV protons from C-12, Ti, and Pb at forward angles

Barlow, D.B. ; Nefkens, B.M.K. ; Pillai, C. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 45 (1992) 293-298, 1992.
Inspire Record 337057 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26108

The doubly differential cross section for the production of He3 and He4 by 800 MeV protons from C12, Ti, and Pb has been measured at laboratory angles of 6° and 15°. The momentum of the detected helium nuclei varied from 1 to 2 GeV/c, the maximum being well above the incident proton momentum of 1.46 GeV/c. The cross sections were found to increase with increasing target mass and decrease with increasing momentum and scattering angle. In our momentum region, the He3 production cross section is 1.5–10 times larger than He4 depending on the target and the momentum. The data are consistent with the hypothesis that the dominant reaction mechanism is a direct process where the initial nucleon-nucleon scattering is followed by a sequential pickup of neutrons.

Studies of e+ e- ---> gamma gamma and gamma-gamma-gamma reactions

The TOPAZ collaboration Shimozawa, K. ; Fujimoto, J. ; Abe, T. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 284 (1992) 144-150, 1992.
Inspire Record 339575 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29177

We have measured the cross section for γγ production with the TOPAZ detector in the energy region √ s =50.0–61.4 GeV. The observed cross section for γγ production integrated over |cos θ | ⩽ 0.77 is 50.2±0.8±2.2 pb at 〈√ s 〉=57.6 GeV and the ratio of this value to the QED prediction is 1.01±0.02±0.04. The angular distribution is in good agreement with the QED predictions, thereby setting limits on the compositeness scales, Λ L+R + =168 GeV, Λ L+R − =97 GeV, Λ L,R =141 GeV, Λ L,R − =81 GeV, and Λ L−R ± =68 GeV, at the 95% confidence level. The reaction e + e − → γγγ was also studied and was found consistent with the QED prediction.

Measurement of the slope of the pi0 electromagnetic form-factor

Inspire Record 338523 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29240

We have measured the slope parameter of the π 0 electromagnetic form factor by measuring the partial branching ratio of the Dalitz decay π 0 → γe + e − into high-invariant-mass electron-positron pairs. We obtain a value a =0.026 with a total (statistical and systematic) error of ±0.054, in agreement with vector dominance and quark loop calculations.

The PI0 form factor is parameterized as F(M(ee)**2) = 1 + SLOPE*(M(ee)/M(pi))**2. Two metod are used (see text for detail).

n p elastic spin transfer measurements at 485-MeV and 635-MeV

Phys.Rev.C 46 (1992) 47-51, 1992.
Inspire Record 342389 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26097

We have measured the spin-transfer parameters KLL, KSL, KLS, and KSS at 635 MeV from 50° to 178° c.m. and at 485 MeV from 74° to 176° c.m. These new data have a significant impact on the phase-shift analyses. There are now sufficient data near these energies to overdetermine the elastic nucleon-nucleon amplitudes.

We have measured the K + K - /π + π - ratio R from p annihilations in gaseous D 2 and H 2 at atmospheric pressure. The measurement was performed with the OBELIX spectrometer. From the measured value in gaseous D 2 (0.27±0.02) we infer a P wave contribution to p −p annihilation in D 2 of (18±7)%.
