TOTAL NEUTRON NUCLEUS CROSS-SECTIONS AT INTERMEDIATE-ENERGIES

Franz, J. ; Grotz, H.P. ; Lehmann, L. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.A 490 (1988) 667-688, 1988.
Inspire Record 263460 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37108

Total neutron cross sections have been measured for the nuclei Be, C, O, Al, V, Mn, Co, Cu, Ag, Ce, Ta, Pb, Bi and U at 22 energies from 160 MeV to 575 MeV by the transmission method. The energy region contains the threshold for pion production. Different parametrizations of the experimental results are discussed. A test of charge symmetry was obtained from the proton- and neutron-induced cross sections on C and O, yielding 〈 (σ p − σ n ) σ p 〉 = 0.0012 ± 0.0059 .

LOW-ENERGY PION YIELD AT HIGH-ENERGY ACCELERATORS AS A FUNCTION OF THE PRIMARY PROTON BEAM MOMENTUM

Bertin, A. ; Bruschi, M. ; Capponi, M. ; et al.
Nuovo Cim.A 100 (1988) 305-308, 1988.
Inspire Record 270462 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37844

High yields of low-momentum pions were obtained from high-energy primary proton beams. The results are discussed, also with respect to the possibility of setting up cloud muon beams from the very lowmomentum poins produced by 10 GeV/c protons.

Recent Results From the Na35 Collaboration at {CERN}

Nucl.Phys.A 498 (1989) 133C-150C, 1989.
Inspire Record 271884 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36948

Recent results from the NA35 Collaboration are presented for the reactions of 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon p and 16 O, and 200 GeV/nucleon 32 S with various targets ranging from S to Au. Midrapidity transverse energy distributions and forward energy flow, p⊥ spectra and rapidity distributions of hadrons are presented. Two-pion interferometry results are discussed. Neutral strange particle yields and p⊥ distributions are presented. Conclusions are drawn from the experimental results.

Charged Particle Multiplicities and Interaction Cross-sections in High-energy Nuclear Collisions

The NA35 collaboration Bamberger, A. ; Bangert, D. ; Bartke, J. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 205 (1988) 583-589, 1988.
Inspire Record 262284 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42035

Inelastic cross sections at 60 and 200 GeV/nucleon are determined in a streamer chamber for 16 O on several nuclear targets. Charged particle multiplicity distributions for inelastic and central collisions are studied and compared with theoretical predictions. The inelastic cross section exhibit a geometrical dependence on nuclear radii. The multiplicity data are governed by the collision geometry. They are consistent with a picture of superposition of independent nucleon-nucleus interactions.

Measurement of the Spin Correlation A(ookk) in $N P$ Elastic Scattering Between 0.63-{GeV} and 1.08-{GeV}

Z.Phys.C 40 (1988) 193-197, 1988.
Inspire Record 269772 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15598

We present the measurements of the spin correlation parameterAookk(np). A longitudinally polarized beam of free neutrons obtained from the break-up of polarized deuterons was scattered on the longitudinally polarized Saclay frozen-spin proton target. Measurements were carried out at SATURNE II, at neutron beam kinetic energies of 0.63, 0.88, 0.98 and 1.08 GeV. The data points cover the angular region from about 40° to 110° CM. The observed angular dependence ofAookk(np) at 0.63 GeV agree with the phase shift analysis predictions except at small angles.

Precision measurement of parity nonconservation in atomic Cesium: A Low-energy test of the electroweak theory

Inspire Record 260503 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20071

We have made an improved measurement of the parity-nonconserving electric-dipole transition amplitude between the 6S and 7S states of atomic cesium. We obtain Im(EPNC)β=−1.576(34) mV/cm, which is in good agreement with the predictions of the standard model and earlier less precise measurements. This places more stringent constraints on alternatives to the standard model. We also see the first evidence of a nuclear-spin-dependent contribution to atomic parity nonconservation. The nuclear-spin dependence observed is in agreement with that predicted to arise from a nuclear anapole moment.

SEARCH FOR STRANGE BARYONIUM STATES IN ANTI-P D INTERACTIONS AT 8.9-GEV/C

Shoemaker, G.H.N. ; Ko, W. ; Michael, W. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 37 (1988) 1120-1130, 1988.
Inspire Record 264272 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23273

A search for SU(3) manifestly exotic Q2Q¯ 2 baryonium states in antiproton-deuterium interactions was carried out at the SLAC 40-in. hybrid bubble-chamber facility. The I=(3/2, S=1 channel, X−, produced in conjunction with a forward produced neutral antikaon was studied. Such X− states would decay into an antihyperon and a baryon. The fast forward K¯ 0 was detected in a three-view segmented calorimeter placed downstream of the bubble chamber and used as part of the trigger. Upper limits of 0.50–1.63 μb are reported for the X−→Λ¯nπ−, Σ¯ n−, Λ¯pπ−π−, Σ¯ π−−, Σ¯ π∓±π− exclusive channels based upon ≤13 events per channel.
