We report on properties of hadronic events from e + e − annihilation observed by the ALEPH detector at the large Electron Positron Collider at CERN. The center-of-mass energy was s =91.0−91.3 GeV . Measured distributions of the global event-shape variables sphericity, aplanarity, thrust and minor value, and of the inclusive variables x p , p ⊥ in , p ⊥ out and y are presented. We measure a mean charged multiplicity in hadronic events of 〈 N ch 〉=21.3±0.1 (statistical)±0.6 (systematic). The data are in good agreement with QCD-based models which use the leading-logarithm approximation, and are less well described by a model using O( α s 2 ) QCD.

Phys.Lett.B 231 (1989) 519-529, 1989.
Inspire Record 282904 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29758

The cross-section for e + e − → hadrons in the vicinity of the Z boson peak has been measured with the ALEPH detector at the CERN Large Electron Positron collider, LEP. Measurements of the Z mass, M z = (91.174±0.070) GeV, the Z width Γ z =(2.68±0.15) GeV, and of the peak hadronic cross-section, σ had peak =(29.3±1.2) nb, are presented. With the constraints of the standard electroweak model, the number of light neutrino species is found to be N v =3.27±0.30. this results rules out of the possibility of a fourth type of light neutrino at 98% CL.

New Measurement of the Production Polarization and Magnetic Moment of the Cascade Minus Hyperon

Trost, L.H. ; McCliment, E.R. ; Newsom, C.R. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 40 (1989) 1703, 1989.
Inspire Record 280604 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23053

We have measured the production polarization and magnetic moment of a sample of 89×103Ξ− hyperons produced in the inclusive reaction p(400 GeV/c)+Cu→Ξ−+X. The weighted average of the polarization is -0.070±0.008±0.010 at a pt of 0.63 GeV/c. The Ξ−'s magnetic moment yields the value μΞ=−0.661±0.036±0.036 nuclear magnetons. The first error is statistical, the second systematic.

Phys.Rev.Lett. 62 (1989) 1240, 1989.
Inspire Record 25467 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47269

We have observed Σc++ and Σc0 baryons in nonresonant e+e− interactions through their decays to Λc+π± using the CLEO detector. The mass difference M(Σc++)-M(Λc+) is measured to be 167.8±0.4±0.3 MeV; for M(Σc0)-M(Λc+) we find 167.9±0.5±0.3 MeV. Σc decay accounts for (18±3±5)% of Λc+ production.

High Transverse Momentum Single Hadron Production in p p and p d Collisions at s**1/2 = 27.4-GeV and s**1/2 = 38.8-GeV

Jaffe, D.E. ; Straub, P.B. ; Adams, M.R. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 40 (1989) 2777, 1989.
Inspire Record 278691 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23016

Results of high-transverse-momentum charged-hadron production in 400-GeV/c proton-proton and proton-deuteron collisions and 800-GeV/c proton-proton collisions are presented. The transverse-momentum range of the data is from 5.2 to 9.0 GeV/c for the 400-GeV/c collisions and from 3.6 to 11.0 GeV/c for the 800-GeV/c collisions; the data are centered around 90° in the proton-nucleon center-of-momentum system. Single-pion invariant cross sections and particle ratios were measured at both energies. The results are compared to previous experiments and the Lund model.

A Measurement of the $e^+ e^- \to b \bar{b}$ Forward - Backward Charge Asymmetry at $\sqrt{s}=29$-{GeV}

Phys.Lett.B 218 (1989) 369-373, 1989.
Inspire Record 276692 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29845

High p ⊥ inclusive muon events produced in e + e − annihilations at √ s =29 GeV have been analyzed to obtain a measurement of the b b forward-backward charge asymmetry. The result A b =0.034±0.070±0.035 differs from the theoretical expectation (−0.16) unless substantial B 0  B 0 mixing is assumed.

INCLUSIVE CHARGED D* PRODUCTION IN 205-GEV/C PI- BE INTERACTIONS

Mooney, P. ; Sarmiento, M. ; Bishop, J.M. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 39 (1989) 2494-2498, 1989.
Inspire Record 282266 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23225

The inclusive cross section for charged-D* production by 205-GeV/c π− mesons incident on a beryllium target was measured with a two-arm spectrometer triggered by prompt muons. Using the mass-difference technique often employed in D* studies, a signal of 31±11 charged D*’s was isolated; it includes contributions from both the D*+ and D*− charged modes in correlation with triggering muons of the proper charge. This corresponds to an inclusive charged-D* production cross section of 220±77−57+77 μb per Be nucleus or 24±9−6+9 μb per nucleon when the cross section is scaled linearly with atomic mass number. The first error is statistical and the second is systematic.

Dimuon Production in 800 GeV Proton Nucleus Collisions

Brown, C.N. ; Cooper, W.E. ; Finley, D. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 63 (1989) 2637-2640, 1989.
Inspire Record 288346 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20031

A measurement of continuum dimuon production in proton-copper collisions at 800-GeV incident energy is presented. The dimuons observed in this experiment cover the mass range from 6.5 to 18 GeV near y=0 in the proton-nucleon center-of-momentum frame. Scaling forms of the cross section for the continuum are compared with the results of other experiments in the context of the parton model and quantum chromodynamics. The present limitations of such scaling comparisons are discussed.
