The reaction K − n → K − π + π − n has been studied in the SLAC 82″ liquid deuterium bubble chamber with a beam momentum of 12 GeV/ c . Although the kinematic fit for this final state has only one constraint, nonetheless a reasonably pure sample has been obtained. The cross section for the reaction is 1.02 ± 0.10 mb. The process K − n → K ∗0 890 Δ − is observed with cross section 36 ± 9 μ b and t -slope of 10 ± 2 (GeV/ c ) −2 . A kaon diffraction dissociation sample has been obtained, although the Q-signal is not so strong as in experiments with proton targets. Neutron dissociation into n π + π − is also observed with similar properties to those of proton dissociation into p π + π − , but with a broader t -distribution.

We report on coherent interactions in a 2.5 event/μb K − d exposure. The predominant channel studied is K − d → K − π + gp − d (415 events). We find strong Q- and L-production in the (K ππ ) system. The production mechanism determines I = 1 2 for both enhancements and a spin-parity in the series 0 − , 1 + ,2 − … . A spin-parity analysis shows the Q to be a 1 + object, while the L is 1 + or 2 − , although a higher spin cannot be excluded. The cross sections for Q and L production and other final states are presented.

The inclusive production cross section of Λ, Λ¯ in e+e− annihilation at a c.m. energy of 29 GeV has been measured with the time-projection-chamber detector at PEP. The average Λ, Λ¯ multiplicity has been measured to be 0.197 ± 0.012(stat.) ±0.017(syst.). Λ−Λ¯ pairs have been observed in jets for the first time, and the average number of Λ−Λ¯ pairs per event has been measured to be 0.042 ± 0.017 ± 0.014.

We report a measurement of the reaction γγ→K+K−π+π− in both tagged and untagged events at PEP. The cross section rises with invariant γγ mass to about 15 nb at 2 GeV and falls slowly at higher masses. We find clear evidence for the processes γγ→φπ+π− and γγ→K*0(892)Kπ. Upper limits (95% C.L.) of 1.5 and 5.7 nb in the mass range from 1.7 to 3.7 GeV are obtained for φρ0 and K*0K¯*0 production, respectively.

Results are presented from a study of the annihilation interaction p―p→K+K−π+π− at 8.3 GeV/c based on data from an experiment performed with the large-aperture solenoid spectrometer (LASS) at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. A measurement of the reaction cross section is made, and contributions to the final state from the φ, f0A20, K*(890), K*(1430), and ρ0 resonances are studied.

The inclusive production cross sections and transverse momentum distributions of K*0 and KS0 mesons in e+e− annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of 29 GeV have been measured by means of the time projection chamber detector in the PEP-4 experiment. The mean multiplicites are found to be 0.49 ± 0.04(stat.) ± 0.07(syst.) (K*0+K―*0) and 1.22 ± 0.03(stat.) ±0.15(syst.) (K0+K―0) per event.

Evidence for a narrow state decaying into an F meson and a photon has been obtained in e+e− annihilation events at 29-GeV c.m. energy. This state lies 139.5 ± 8.3(stat.) ± 9.7(syst.) MeV above the F-meson mass and is consistent with the expected F* meson. The F mesons are identified by a peak in the K+K−Kπ± mass at 1.948±0.028±0.010 GeV.

Results are presented from a study of inclusive neutral strange particle production by a 147 GeV/ c tagged π + /K + /p beam in the Fermilab 30-inch hydrogen bubble chamber. The experiment made use of the proportional hybrid spectrometer system. Results are based on 995 K S 0 , 485 Λ, and 83 Λ found in a sample of 132 000 pictures. Cross sections are given for inclusive production of these particles by each of the three beam particles, and comparisons are made with measurements at other energies. Topological cross sections are also calculated, and KNO multiplicity scaling is investigated. Distributions are presented of invariant cross sections as functions of the Feynman scaling variable x and c.m. rapidity y . The transverse momentum-squared distributions with their fitted slopes are also given. Comparisons are made of the production characteristics for the three beam types.

In this paper Au+Au collisions at 11.6A GeV/c are characterized by two global observables: the energy measured near zero degrees (EZCAL) and the total event multiplicity. Particle spectra are measured for different event classes that are defined in a two-dimensional grid of both global observables. For moderately central events (σ/σint<12%) the proton dN/dy distributions do not depend on EZCAL but only on the event multiplicity. In contrast the shape of the proton transverse spectra shows little dependence on the event multiplicity. The change in the proton dN/dy distributions suggests that different conditions are formed in the collision for different event classes. These event classes are studied for signals of new physics by measuring pion and kaon spectra and yields. In the event classes doubly selected on EZCAL and multiplicity there is no indication of any unusual pion or kaon yields, spectra, or K/π ratio even in the events with extreme multiplicity.
