The fragmentation of the hadronic system into Λ, Σ(1385), K ) and K ∗ (892) in deep-inelastic charged-current interactions of high energy neutrinos and antineutrinos with proton and neutron is analyzed. The results obtained for the production of these particles from the various initial states are compared with each other and with the predictions of the Lund fragmentation model. This comparison shows that a spectator diquark does not fragment as a whole in a fraction of the interactions. The role of the sea quarks in the baryon formation process is underlined. Strange vector and pseudoscalar mesons are likely to be produced at similar rates.

EXCLUSIVE PRODUCTION OF K+ K- pi+ pi- IN PHOTON-PHOTON COLLISIONS

We report a measurement of the reaction γγ→K+K−π+π− in both tagged and untagged events at PEP. The cross section rises with invariant γγ mass to about 15 nb at 2 GeV and falls slowly at higher masses. We find clear evidence for the processes γγ→φπ+π− and γγ→K*0(892)Kπ. Upper limits (95% C.L.) of 1.5 and 5.7 nb in the mass range from 1.7 to 3.7 GeV are obtained for φρ0 and K*0K¯*0 production, respectively.

The results of the study of the π + p→K + ∑ + (1) and π + p→K + ∑ + (1385) (2) reactions at 12 GeV/ c are presented. The differential cross sections d σ /d t in| t min |<| t |<0.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 momentum transfer range are measured. The ∑ + polarisation for | t |<0.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 for reaction (1) is defined. Binary reactions (1) and (2) were selected by analyzing the missing mass spectra for the forward emitted fast K + meson. The total cross sections in the studied momentum transfer range are 20.2±2.4 μ b and 7.3±1.1 μ b for the reactions (1) and (2) respectively. The experimental results are compared with the predictions of the Regge models which take into account rescattering and secondary singularities.

Measurement of the Neutral Current Coupling Constants in Neutrino and Anti-neutrinos Interactions With Deuterium

We have measured neutral and charged current interactions of ν μ and ν μ on proton and neutron. From a combination of ratios we determine the neutral current chiral coupling constants. The results are u 2 L = 0.13 ± 0.03, d 2 L = 0.19 ± 0.03, u 2 R = 0.02 ± 0.02 and d 2 R = 0.00 ± 0.02. These results agree with the predictions of the standard SU(2) × U(1) model. The corresponding value of sin 2 θ W is 0.20 ± 0.04.

A significant rate of forward proton and antiproton production has been observed in 120 and 280 GeV muon-proton scattering. The z and p T 2 distributions are presented. The dependence of the normalized production cross section on the muon variables x and Q 2 is studied.

Quasielastic Neutrino Scattering: A Measurement of the Weak Nucleon Axial Vector Form-Factor

Baker, N.J. ; Cnops, A.M. ; Connolly, P.L. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 23 (1981) 2499-2505, 1981.
Inspire Record 170354 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24080

The quasielastic reaction νμn→μ−p was studied in an experiment using the BNL 7-foot deuterium bubble chamber exposed to the wide-band neutrino beam with an average energy of 1.6 GeV. A total of 1138 quasielastic events in the momentum-transfer range Q2=0.06−3.00 (GeV/c)2 were selected by kinematic fitting and particle identification and were used to extract the axial-vector form factor FA(Q2) from the Q2 distribution. In the framework of the conventional V−A theory, we find that the dipole parametrization is favored over the monopole. The value of the axial-vector mass MA in the dipole parametrization is 1.07±0.06 GeV, which is in good agreement with both recent neutrino and electroproduction experiments. In addition, the standard assumptions of conserved vector current and no second-class currents are checked.
