An analysis of the reaction K−p→K−pπ+π− at 2.0-GeVc incident momentum is presented. The total cross section for the reaction is 627±20 μb, based on 4519 events. The reaction is dominated by resonance production through several channels which overlap kinematically but do not appear to interferesubstantially. A maximum-likelihood procedure was used to determine the production fractions, which for the major channels are 0.44±0.02 for N*++(1236), 0.145±0.02 for Y*0(1520), 0.10±0.03 for N*+(1688), and 0.20±0.02 for simultaneous K¯*0N*0. Evidence is presented for the production of Y*+(1765) and its decay into Y*0(1520) as well as for production of Y*+(1660) with decay into K−pπ+. A four-standard-deviation enhancement is present at a K−π+ invariant mass of 690 MeV. Angular correlation data are presented for the N*++K−π−, Y*0π+π−, and K¯*0N*0 reaction channels. However, the difficulty of separating the various channels prevents a detailed study of the reaction dynamics.

Resilts are reported on the four-pion final state from antiproton annihilations in hydrogen in the vicinity of 940 MeV/ c . The cross section for π − π − π + π + is found to be 3.6 mb. Abundant resonance production is observed, with fits indicating that quasi-two-body production constitutes approximately half the four-pion events. The model employed, which includes resonance production and Bose symmetrization, yields excellent fits to mass distributions and angular correlations.

Total and differential cross sections are presented for proton-antiproton annihilation into π+π− and K+K− at six laboratory momenta between 686 and 1098 MeV/c. The two-pion final state displays moderate energy dependence in its differential cross section, but shows no evidence of any direct-channel resonances. In contrast, the two-kaon final state exhibits some behavior in the total and differential cross section suggestive of a possible direct-channel effect between 800 and 1000 MeV/c.

A detailed analysis is presented of the reactions pp→pp,pp→ppπ0 and pp→pπ+n. The production cross sections are found to be 11.47 ± 0.33 mb, 2.54 ± 0.16 mb, and 5.73 ± 0.35 mb, respectively. The t dependence of elastic scattering can be described by the form e7.9t over the range 0.05<−t<0.50 GeV2. The single-particle distributions for the single-pion production processes are presented. Further detailed analyses are presented which demonstrate that pion-exchange phenomenology, both elementary and Reggeized, can account for the gross features of the peripheral pp→pπ+n data for M(pπ+)<2.4 GeV. Isospin-12 isobars are produced by some other processes in the channel pp→pN*+, especially when the invariant mass of the pion with the unrelated proton is large. We discuss the properties of these isobars.

A Study of the Reaction anti-p n --> anti-p p pi- at 14.6-GeV/c

Inspire Record 89251 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.25045

From a 98000-photograph exposure of the BNL 80-in. deuterium-filled chamber to a 14.6-GeV/c p¯ beam we have extracted those events that fit the channel p¯n→p¯pπ−. The cross section for this channel is measured to be 730 ± 50 μb. The cross section for the reaction p¯n→Δ¯−−(1238)p is determined to be 130 ± 30 μb. Evidence for target dissociation is presented. A comparison with the reaction π−n→π−pπ− at the same energy indicates agreement with factorization.

Experimental results on antiproton-proton annihilations at 5 incident momenta in the range 1.22–1.35 GeV/ c into final states with at least one visible K 1 0 meson are presented. Based on a total of 5855 events, cross sections and resonance fractions for all experimentally accessible final states are determined. The total cross section for annihilation into strange particles with at least one visible K 1 0 is 2069 ± 45 ub. Copious resonance production is observed but there is no significant evidence for the formation of a resonance in the s -channel.

A Measurement of the Cross-Section of the Reaction p p --> n Delta++ (1232) at ISR Energies

Phys.Lett.B 62 (1976) 359-362, 1976.
Inspire Record 108757 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27678

A measurement of the cross section of the charge-exchange reaction pp→ Δ ++ (1232)n at √ s = 23, 31 and 45 GeV at the CERN-ISR is reported. The energy dependence continues to follow a power law p lab − n with n = 1.94 ± 0.03 indicating dominance of one-pion exchange at the lowest ISR energy; there is some evidence for deviation from this at the higher ISR energies.

Experimental Results on Diffractive One Pion Production at the CERN ISR

Inspire Record 109254 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27619

New experimental results are reported on diffractive dissociation of protons into (nπ + ) in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 45 GeV . The data were obtained using the Split-Field-Magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. We have searched for resonance contributions and found peaks at mass values of 1.5 GeV, 1.65 GeV, and 2.1 GeV. A dip in d σ d t is observed at low t and low mass; it is most pronounced for events with neutrons emitted at 90° in the Gottfried-Jackson frame. The correlation between mass and slope depends strongly on θ J . The cross section of the channel pp → pnπ + is 400 ± 110 μb at s = 45 GeV , giving an energy dependence of s −0.30±0.07 for isospin exchange zero in this channel.

A Study of the Charge Exchange Reaction p p --> n Delta++ (1232) at ISR Energies

We report on a study of the charge-exchange reaction pp → nΔ ++ (1232) at the CERN intersecting storage rings (ISR) in the energy range √ s = 23 to 53 GeV. From our analysis of the energy dependence of the total cross-section, of the differential cross-section d σ /d t and of the decay angular distributions we find evidence that pion exchange is dominant up to √ s = 23 GeV and that ( ϱ +A 2 ) exchange dominates the reaction for √ s ⩾ 30 GeV, as described by simple Regge-pole models.

Neutral Strange Particle Production in anti-Proton-Proton Reactions at 3.0-GeV/c

Jacobs, S.M. ; Kirsch, L.E. ; Moore, S.C. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 17 (1978) 1187, 1978.
Inspire Record 5857 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24452

The reactions p¯p→V0+neutrals were studied in a multiparticle spectrometer at 3.0 GeV/c incident momentum, with a sensitivity of about 150 events/μb. Differential cross sections and polarization of the Λ¯ for the final states Λ¯(Λ) and Λ¯(Σ0) are reported and compared with theoretical models. Differential cross sections of the K0 in K0[K*(890)] and the Λ in Λ(Λ¯+Σ¯0) are also measured. Upper limits of a few μb MeV are obtained for the formation of narrow resonances decaying into V0+neutrals in the mass interval 2.74-2.80 GeV/c2.
