We have measured the difference between the pp total cross sections for parallel and antiparallel longitudinal spin states at beam momenta of 1.0, 1.1, 1.30, 1.58, 1.71, 2.1, and 2.25 GeV/c in a transmission counter experiment. These results reveal new structure in the plab range of 1.0 to 2.5 GeV/c.

Measurement of muon neutrino and antineutrino scattering off electrons.

Phys.Rev.Lett. 41 (1978) 213-216, 1978.
Inspire Record 135343 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20832

Muon-neutrino and -antineutrino scattering off electrons was detected in a 19-ton Al spark chamber, exposed to the wide-band ν (ν¯) beam from the CERN proton synchrotron. The background was determined experimentally. 11 (10) genuine νμ− (ν¯μ−) e scattering events were found. The respective cross sections are (1.1±0.6)×10−42(Eν/GeV) cm2 and (2.2±1.0)×10−42(Eν/GeV) cm2. The analysis excludes a pure V−A interaction, and makes a pure V or A theory improbable. The data agree well with the Salam-Weinberg model and sin2θW=0.35±0.08.

Phys.Lett.B 76 (1978) 657-662, 1978.
Inspire Record 122008 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27433

Interference between the I u = 1 2 and I u = 3 2 baryon exchange amplitudes is observed in the reaction π − p → p π − π 0 , with the proton produced forward with cos θ p ∗ >0.8 . The Dalitz plot shows that the reaction is dominated by the quasi two body final states ρ − p( δ exchange) and N ∗0 (1670)π 0 ( N exchange ) , with δ(1238), N ∗ (1520) and higher mass N ∗ 's also produced. The relative phase between the ρ and the N ∗ (1670) production amplitudes is measured to be 135° ± 10° and is compared with the Regge pole signature factor phase predictions.

Proton Proton Elastic Scattering from 150-MeV to 515-MeV

Bugg, D.V. ; Edgington, J.A. ; Amsler, Claude ; et al.
J.Phys.G 4 (1978) 1025, 1978.
Inspire Record 123232 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.38563

The parameters D, R, R' and P for pp elastic scattering have been measured in the centre-of-mass angular range 13 degrees to 58 degrees with an accuracy of about +or-0.02 at 209, 324, 379, 425 and 515 MeV. These results are incorporated with earlier data into a phase-shift analysis. Phase-shifts are generally in agreement with the theoretical predictions of the Paris group, although the F-wave spin-orbit combination is rather stronger than predicted. The fitted value for the pi 0pp coupling constant in g02=14.06+or-0.65.

Photoproduction of omega Mesons from Complex Nuclei Targets

Brodbeck, T.J. ; Coddington, P. ; Morris, J.V. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 136 (1978) 95-114, 1978.
Inspire Record 122500 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.35124

Measurements are presented of the cross sections for omega meson photoproduction at a mean energy of 3.9 GeV from nuclear targets of D, Be, C, Al, Cu, Ag, Au. An optical and Glauber model analysis of the coherent cross sections has been performed to obtain the ω-nucleon cross section, σ ωN , and the photon-omega coupling constant γ ω 2 /4 π . Our results are summarised in table 4. We find good agreement with the quark model prediction that σ ω N = σ ϱ N , and with the value of γ ω 2 /4 π determined from the storage ring experiments and from an earlier complex nuclei measurement. However, we disagree with more recent complex nuclei measurements which found a high value of γ ω 2 /4 π .

Study of the high mass dimuon continuum in 400-GeV proton - nucleus collisions

Inspire Record 122485 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20947

The mass spectrum of muon pairs in the range 5 to 15 GeV is studied in the inclusive reaction p+nucleus→μ++μ−+anything. The ϒ and continuum distribution are presented as is the A dependence of the continuum. Comparison with a parton-annihilation model yields a sea-quark distribution.

Inclusive Production Cross-Sections of Resonances in 32-GeV/c K+ p Interactions

Nucl.Phys.B 140 (1978) 389, 1978.
Inspire Record 121746 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.34983

The inclusive production of resonances is systematically studied in K + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c . Total production cross sections are given for three baryon resonances, five vector and three 2 + tensor mesons. We also compare the central and fragmentation components of the total production cross sections with quark model predictions.

Investigation of rho+, rho- and rho0 Production in pi+ p Interactions at 16-GeV/c and p p Interactions at 24-GeV/c and Quark Model Predictions

Quasi-inclusive and total inclusive ϱ + , ϱ − and ϱ 0 cross sections have been studied, using data of a π + p and a pp bubble chamber experiment at 16 and 24 GeV/ c , respectively. In pp collisions it is found that the total inclusive cross sections for ϱ 0 , ϱ + and ϱ − production are about equal. This equality also holds for the differential cross sections d σ/ d y ∗ , all showing the characteristics of dominantly central production. In the π + p reactions the ϱ − are mainly produced centrally, whereas there are strong additional contributions in the beam fragmentation region for ϱ + and ϱ 0 mesons. In the central region, however, the cross sections for ϱ + , ϱ − and ϱ 0 production are almost equal within errors. All our findings agree with what is expected from quark model predictions.

Experimental Limits on Heavy Lepton Production by Neutrinos

Cnops, A.M. ; Connolly, P.L. ; Kahn, S.A. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 40 (1978) 144-146, 1978.
Inspire Record 121918 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37905

We present upper limits on the production of heavy leptons (L±) by neutrinos via the process νμ+Ne→L±+⋯, L±→e±+ν+ν¯. These limits imply that the L− and L+, if they couple in full strength to νμ, are heavier than 7.5 and 9 GeV, respectively. They also imply that the coupling strength νμ to the recently discovered 1.9-GeV heavy lepton τ is less than 0.025 of the normal νμ−μ coupling.

Hadron Production by Virtual Photons in the Quark Fragmentation Region

Nucl.Phys.B 135 (1978) 224-236, 1978.
Inspire Record 122308 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.35139

We have measured the inclusive electroproduction of positive and negative hadrons in the quark fragmentation region using the streamer chamber at DESY. Data are presented in terms of the variable z p = p / v in the kinematic region 1.8 < W < 2.8 GeV and 0.3 < Q 2 < 1.4 GeV 2 . The positive hadron distributions contain a strong proton component. After subtraction of the proton component and elastic rho events, the distribution (1/ σ tot ) d σ /d z p for positive and negative hadrons agrees well with the corresponding distribution from e + e − annihilation (DORIS data). This behaviour supports the validity of the quark-parton model at surprisingly low Q 2 and W .
