A measurement of the ratio of the magnetic form factor of the neutron to that of the proton has been carried out by comparing large- and small-angle elastic electron-deuteron scattering at constant four-momentum transfers. The experimental result for the average value of the ratio in the range of momentum transfers from 1.6 f−1 to 2.25 f−1 is F2nFp=(0.91±0.05)±0.07; the first error is a standard deviation arising from experimental uncertainties, and the second from theoretical uncertainties in the analysis. Measurements of the ratio of the nucleon isotopic scalar form factors have also been obtained from this experiment. The average value of F2sF1s for the same range of momentum transfers has been found to be (+0.06±0.09) ±0.13. The small-angle scattering data have been used to determine the charge form factor of the deuteron in the range of momentum transfers from 0.98 f−1 to 2.8 f−1. The results are consistent with a repulsive-core model of the deuteron.

Elastic Scattering and Single Meson Production in Proton-Proton Collisions at 2.85 Bev

Smith, G.A. ; Courant, H. ; Fowler, E.C. ; et al.
Phys.Rev. 123 (1961) 2160-2167, 1961.
Inspire Record 47571 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.734

The Brookhaven National Laboratory twenty-inch liquid hydrogen bubble chamber was exposed to a monoenergetic beam of 2.85-Bev protons, elastically scattered from a carbon target in the internal beam of the Cosmotron. All two-prong events, excluding strange particle events, have been studied by the Yale High-Energy Group. The remaining interactions have been studied by the Brookhaven Bubble Chamber Group. Elastic scattering was found to be mostly pure diffraction scattering at center-of-mass angles up to about thirty-five degrees. Some phase shift and/or tapering of the proton edge was required to fit the data at larger angles. No polarization effects in the proton-carbon scattering were observed using hydrogen as an analyzer of polarized protons. Nucleonic isobar formation in the T=32, J=32 state was found to account for a large part of single pion production. High-orbital angular-momentum states were found to be greatly favored in single pion production. The isobar model of Lindenbaum and Sternheimer gave good agreement with the observed nucleon and pion energy spectra. No polarization or alignment effects were observed for the isobar assumed in this model.

Total and differential cross sections are presented on the reactions: p ̄ p → Λ Λ, ΛΣ 0 + c.c. , Σ + Σ + at an incident momentum of 5.7 GeV/ c , from 200 000 photographs (13 events/ Σ b) of the CERN 2 metre hydrogen bubble chamber. The “forbidden” reaction p ̄ p → Σ − Σ − is also observed and its cross section is 1.3 ± 0.4 μ b. Polarization and correlation of polarizations are presented for the reaction p ̄ p → Λ Λ .

In the reaction p p → 3π + 3π − 2227 events, and in the reaction p p → 3π + 3π − π 0 6578 events have been analyzed. The general characteristics of the reactions, such as total cross sections, angular and momentum distributions, the production of ϱ, f, ω and η mesons, and angular correlations are presented.

From a bubble chamber exposure in an antiproton beam at 5.7 GeV/ c yielding 13 events/μb, the final states p ̄ p → Y 1 ∗+ (1385)Λ, Y 1 ∗+ (1385)Σ + , Y 1 ∗+ (1385) Y 1 ∗+ (1385) have been isolated. We have measured the total cross section, d σ /d t , and the complete density matrix of the Y ∗ for these processes. Upper limits have been set to the forbidden reactions p ̄ p → Y 1 ∗− (1385)Σ − , Y 1 ∗− (1385) Y 1 ∗− (1385) .

Inspire Record 69017 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21588

We have studied the process p¯p into π+X− using wire spark chambers. The data cover the angular range of cosθp¯π+* between 0.96 and 1.0 at several incident momenta between 1 and 2 GeVc. The reaction p¯p→π+ρ− was observed with (dσdΩ)* of the order of 100 μb/sr at several momenta.

Photoproduction of positive pions at 180 degrees at photon energies from 0.4 to 1.4 gev

Dannhausen, H.W. ; Fischer, G. ; Fischer, H.M. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 61 (1973) 285-295, 1973.

Pions from the reaction γ + p → π + + n were analysed in the backward direction by a magnetic spectrometer. The photon energy region of 0.394 GeV to 1.397 GeV was covered by 19 different momentum settings. Data reduction resulted in 74 measured differential cross sections with statistical uncertainties typically from 4% to 8%. The systematic uncertainty was estimated to be ±5%. The data are compared to other recent experiments and predictions of phenomenological analyses.
