Ratios of inclusive cross sections σ(π+)/σ(π++K++p) and\(\sigma (\pi ^ -)/\sigma (\pi ^ -+ K^ -+ \bar p)\) were measured for proton-proton interactions with a highpT hadron in the final state around c.m.s. scattering angles θ≅20°, 20° and 45° at two ISR energies\(\sqrt s= 31\) Gev and 62 GeV. Results are shown as functions of transverse and longitudinal momentum and are compared with parton model predictions. The different dependences of positive and negative pion fractions atpT≅2–3 GeV/c on longitudinal momenta is similar to that observed in soft hadronic interactions at low values ofpT where the leading proton effect (diquark fragmentation) is known to contribute. The quantitative agreement of the data with diquark model predictions indicates the presence of diquark fragmentation also in highpT jets.

Analysis of the Fragmentation Properties of Quark and Gluon Jets at the CERN SPS $p \bar{p}$ Collider

The UA1 collaboration Arnison, G. ; Albrow, M.G. ; Allkofer, O.C. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 276 (1986) 253-271, 1986.
Inspire Record 229898 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33618

A sample of two-jet events from the UA1 experiment at the CERN $p \bar{p}$ Collider has been used to study the fragmentation of high-energy quark and gluon jets into charged hadrons. Compared with lower-energy jets observed in $e^+ e^−$ and $pp$ collisions, the fragmentation function measured in the present experiment is softer (i.e. peaked to smaller values of z) and the mean internal transverse momentum is larger, mainly because of the effects of the QCD scaling violations. Using our knowledge of the quark and gluon structure functions in the proton, together with the QCD matrix elements, a statistical separation of quark and gluon jets is achieved within the present experiment. The fragmentation function for the gluon jets is found to be softer, and the angular spread of the fragmentation products larger, than is the case for quark jets.

Z.Phys.C 31 (1986) 537, 1986.
Inspire Record 228876 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15859

The reactione+e−→e+e− A2 (1320) has been observed by detecting the decayA2→π+,π-π0. The two-photon width of theA2 has been measured to be Г(A2→γγ)=(0.09±0.27 (stat)±0.16 (syst)) keV. The cross section σ(γγ→π+,π-π0 has been determined outside theA2 resonance region.

Exclusive Production of Proton Anti-proton Pairs in Photon-photon Collisions

The JADE collaboration Bartel, W. ; Becker, L. ; Cords, D. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 174 (1986) 350-356, 1986.
Inspire Record 231554 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.30246

Total and differential cross sections for exclusive production of proton-antiproton pairs in photon-photon collisions have been measured using the JADE detector at PETRA. The total cross section in the CM angular |cos θ ∗ | < 0.6 reaches a maximum value of 3.8 nb for a γγ invariant mass of W γγ = 2.25 GeV, and decreases rapidly for higher values of W γγ . In the range 2.0 GeV < W γγ < 2.6 GeV the angular distribution is not isotopic. The nucleons are preferentially emitted at large angles to the collision axis.

Measurement of the Total Cross-section Difference $\Delta \sigma^-$t ($p p$) in the Energy Range From 0.43-{GeV} to 2.4-{GeV}

Perrot, F. ; Azaiez, H. ; Ball, J. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 278 (1986) 881-904, 1986.
Inspire Record 228310 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33569

The SATURNE II polarized proton beam and the Saclay frozen spin polarized proton target were used to measure the total cross section difference Δσ T = −2 σ 1 tot at 26 energies between 0.43 and 2.4 GeV. Here Δσ T is the total cross section difference for transverse beam and target spins parallel and antiparallel, respectively, and σ 1tot is one of spin-dependent terms in the total cross section σ tot . The energy dependence of Δσ T below 1 GeV shows similar structures as for Δσ L . An additional minimum appears at about 1.3 GeV, which involves a structure in singlet spin partial waves.

Phys.Rev.Lett. 56 (1986) 2781, 1986.

We present evidence for inclusive F-meson production in B-meson decay. The product branching fraction B(B→FX)B(F+→φπ+) is measured to be 0.0038±0.010. The F momentum spectrum indicates the presence of a large component of two-body final states in the decay B→FX.

Measurement of the Photon Structure Function f(2)Gamma at Q**2 from 7-GeV/c**2 to 70-GeV/c**2

Z.Phys.C 31 (1986) 527, 1986.
Inspire Record 228251 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15858

We have measured the processe+e−→e+e−+hadrons, where one of the scattered electrons was detected at large angles, withQ2 ranging from 7 to 70 (VeV/c)2. The photon structure functionF2γ(x, Q2) was determined at an averageQ2 of 23 (GeV/c)2. The measurements were compared to theoretical predictions of the Quark Parton Model and Quantum Chromodynamics. In both models a hadronic part was added. Within the errors the data are in agreement with the QPM using quark masses of 300 MeV/c2 for the light quarks. The data also agree with a QCD calculation including higher order corrections. A fit yielded a\(\Lambda _{\overline {MS} } \) value of 140−65+190 MeV, where the errors include statistical and systematic uncertainties.

A-dependence of $\eta$ Meson Inclusive Production at 10.5-{GeV}/$c$

Bitsadze, G.S. ; Budagov, Yu.A. ; Chirikov-Zorin, I.E. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 279 (1987) 770, 1987.
Inspire Record 231123 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.39482

The experimental results are presented for ratios of ν-meson inclusive differential cross sections in 10.5 GeV/ c π + p, π + D and π + A collisions, R D/p =(d σ /d x F )( π + D → η X)/ (d σ /d x F ) π + p→ η X), R A =(d σ /d x F )( π + D→ η X) in the beam fragmentation region. The results are based on the statistics of ≈ 5 × 10 4 detected η → 2 γ decays. It is shown that the power α in the parametrisation R A ≈ A α ( xf ) does not change significantly with x F and its mean value is 0.50±0.02. The lower limit is obtained for the effective coefficient with string tension in the colour string model, κ ⩾ 3 GeV/fm. The observed growth of R A with x F can be explained by an assumption of a neutron halo with the factor H ≈ 4 in the nuclei.
