The observation of 21 K + K − pairs in 38 hadron pair events produced at 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7 GeV total centre-of-mass energies in e + e − annihilations, establishes that time-like photons produce K pairs and π pairs with comparable rates in this energy range. The K-meson electromagnetic form factor at a mean s -value of 2.4 GeV 2 is measured to be | F K | = 0.50±0.08. The number of e + e − pairs observed in the same angular and energy range is 5148.

In a counter and wire spark chamber experiment with a polarized target, backward kaons were detected, and the Σ + 's identified by a missing-mass technique. An average polarization of −0.08 ± 0.05 was found for −0.2 < u < 0.1 GeV 2 .
THE MEAN POLARIZATION FOR ALL EVENTS IS -0.08 +- 0.05.
The inclusive production al all charged particles of transverse momentum p T between 1.5 and 4.4 GeV/ c at centre of mass angles 90° and 59.4° from p-p-collisions with √ s = 44 and 53 GeV has been measured. No strong energy dependence is observed for these transverse momenta.

We present the first results of a measurement of the total cross-section σ T in proton-proton collisions at equivalent laboratory momenta between 291 and 1480 GeV/ c at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR). The method is based on the measurement of the ratio of the total interaction rate and the machine luminosity. The data show an increase of about 10% in σ T in this energy interval.

The spin rotation parameter R in elastic proton-proton scattering has been determined at incident momenta 6 and 16 GeV/ c in the interval from t = −0.18 (GeV/ c ) 2 to −0.54 (GeV/ c ) 2 . R pp at 16 GeV/ c is close to the val obtained for R in π − p elastic scattering at the same incident momentum. Equality of R pp ( s , t ) and R π p ( s , t ) is expected if Pomeron exchange dominates and if factorization holds. The t -dependence of R at 16 GeV/ c is consistent with weak helicity flip.

The differential cross section for the charge exchange p p → n n has been measured with high statistics at 7.76 GeV/ c and at 5.0 GeV/ c . The 7.76 GeV/ c data show a very narrow [ Δt ⪅ 0.01 (GeV/ c ) 2 ] forward peak superposed on a slow exponential fall-off.

INTEGRATED CROSS SECTIONS FROM EXPONENTIAL FIT.
The asymmetry of the cross section for π + photoproduction from a polarized butanol target has been measured at a c.m. angle 90° and photon energies between 300 and 900 MeV by a single-arm spectrometer detecting positive pions. Our results indicate that the asymmetry has clear positive peaks at photon energies 400 and 700 MeV with a deep valley at about 600 MeV. The general feature of the results is well reproduced by the phenomenological analyses made by Walker and ourselves; however, the best fit to the polarized target asymmetry data seems to give a somewhat different set of parameters from that given by Walker.

For the reaction π + p → ωΔ ++ data on the total cross section ( σ = 61 ± 12 μ b), differential cross sections, spin density matrix elements and statistical tensor elements are given. We observe natural and unnatural parity exchange contributions to the total cross section. We note that the value of ϱ 00 is not zero and in the helicity frame exhibits a dip at t ≈ −0.25 (GeV/ c ) 2 . A qualitative theoretical discussion of our results is presented.

A bubble-chamber study is presented of a 10 events/μb experiment using K − mesons of 4.25 GeV/ c incident momentum. Differential and total cross sections are determined for 7 different reactions: K − p → K 0 n ( la ), → π 0 Λ ( lb ), → ηΛ ( lc ), → η′Λ ( ld ), → π − Σ ( le ), → π + Σ − ( lf ), K + Ξ − ( lg ) . The experimental characteristics in d σ /d t of each reaction are described: (la) shows a levelling off at t = 0 (GeV/ c ) 2 , a break at t = −0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 and no backward events, (lb) d σ /d t has a smooth behaviour and a measurable backward component with an indication of a dip at u = −0.2 (GeV/ c ) 2 , (1c) d σ /d t shows a dip in the region between t ≈ −0.2 and −0.4 (GeV/ c ) 2 , (ld) d σ /d t has a smooth behaviour; neither this reaction nor the preceding one shows a clear evidence for backward events, (le) d σ /d t has a break at t = −0.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 ; there is a significant cross section in the backward region; (lf) and (lg) show mainly backward production. The polarization of the hyperon is measured in the reactions (lb), (lc), (ld) and (le) in the forward production peak. The statistics do not allow the detection of a definite structure in the polarization but the sign and magnitude are determined. An interpretation of the results is given in terms of a dual Regge model, including the effects of absorption as elaborated recently by several authors.
