The reactions p¯p→V0+neutrals were studied in a multiparticle spectrometer at 3.0 GeV/c incident momentum, with a sensitivity of about 150 events/μb. Differential cross sections and polarization of the Λ¯ for the final states Λ¯(Λ) and Λ¯(Σ0) are reported and compared with theoretical models. Differential cross sections of the K0 in K0[K*(890)] and the Λ in Λ(Λ¯+Σ¯0) are also measured. Upper limits of a few μb MeV are obtained for the formation of narrow resonances decaying into V0+neutrals in the mass interval 2.74-2.80 GeV/c2.

The reactions p p → K ∗ (890) X , p p →Σ ± (1385) X and p p → S ∗ (993) X at 12 GeV/ c incident momentum have been studied using 19 000 events with a visible V 0 decay in BEBC. Inclusive production cross sections of these resonances as a function of transverse momentum and rapidity are presented. The contribution of annihilation to the production of the K ∗ (890) is investigated from a comparison with the corresponding pp data.

A strong negative transverse polarization P z is found for forward produced lambdas observed in 10 and 16 GeV/ c K − p interactions. This indicates that exchanges of natural spin-parity are dominant in the production process. Using the polarization results, the d σ d u′ distributions for natural and unnatural spin-parity exchanges are derived. For unnatural exchanges, a dip is observed at u ′≅0.3 GeV 2 , which can be explained as a nonsense-wrong-signature zero of the N β trajectory. The value of P z for forward producted lambdas is constant with energy. This is in agreement with the triple-Regge model prediction, as is the fact that P z is constant as a function of M 2 s . The two non-transverse polarization components, P x and P y , have been measured and are found to be consistent with zero for all x values, unlike P z .

Inclusive cross sections for the production of π ± and K ± mesons in proton-proton collisions have been measured at a c.m. energy √ s = 45 GeV, in the range 0.41 < x < 0.95 and 0.35 < p T < 1.45 GeV, where x = 2 p L/√ s and p L , p T are the longitudinal and transverse components of the momentum of the meson. Within the measured range the p T dependence of the invariant cross section is essentially independent of x and weakly dependent on the type of particle. For all particles the invariant cross sections at fixed p T fall by three orders of magnitude between x = 0.4 and 0.95. Except at the highest values of x and p T , the statistical accuracy is better than 10%. The data are compared with a triple-Regge model and with a simple quark-parton model.

We present measurements on the inclusive structure function for π 0 photoproduction for the incident photon energy range of 2.8–4.8 GeV. Comparisons are made with electroproduction data and it is found that the scaling behaviour already observed for finite q 2 continues to be valid at q 2 = 0.

The s and t dependence of φ (1019) photoproduction has been investigated in the incident photon energy range 2.8 to to 4.8 GeV. Differential cross-sections and density matrix elements are presented for a t range extending from t min out to −1.3 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The results are discussed in terms discussed in terms of an effective Regge trajectory in the t -channel.

In a large-acceptance spectrometer, muon pairs and associated hadrons were observed with μμ masses up to 10 GeV/ c 2 and ΔM M = 0.015 resolution. We report here on the production of 4000 J/ ψ and 80 ψ ′ mesons.

Inclusive V0 production in 6.5-GeV/c K−p interactions is studied using the ANL 12-ft-diameter hydrogen bubble chamber. The total cross sections for inclusive K¯0 and Λ0 production are σ(K¯0)=7.98±0.49 mb and σ(Λ0)=3.94±0.24 mb. Semi-inclusive differential cross sections are determined as functions of Feynman x and transverse momentum squared of the V0's and of four-momentum transfer to the V0. The average charge multiplicity, the ratio 〈nc〉D, and the correlation function f2cc for the neutrally charged hadronic system recoiling from the V0 are determined as functions of the mass of the recoiling system. Results are used to examine universal aspects of multiparticle production.

The angular distribution and polarization for the reaction K − n→ π − Λ have been measured in the c.m.s. energy range 1750 MeV to 2000 MeV by means of a bubble chamber experiment, producing on average 500 events of this type per 10 MeV energy interval. The data are compared with the predictions of a recent partial-wave analysis of this reaction.

We have performed a high-statistics experiment on the reaction π−p→K+K¯0π−n at 8.0 GeV/c. A Dalitz-plot analysis of the K+K¯0π− system finds that the D(1285) is a JPG=1++ state coupling predominantly to a δπ decay channel, while the E(1420) peak consists mostly of a JPG=0−+ wave with a substantial δπ decay mode. There is little evidence of a 1++ resonance at the E mass.
