We have studied the production of prompt muons in hadronic events from e+e− annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of 29 GeV with the PEP4-TPC (Time Projection Chamber) detector. The muon p and pt distributions are well described by a combination of bottom- and charm-quark decays, with fitted semimuonic branching fractions of (15.2±1.9±1.2)% and (6.9±1.1±1.1)%, respectively. The muon spectra imply hard fragmentation functions for both b and c quarks, with 〈z(b quark)〉=0.80±0.05±0.05 and 〈z(c quark)〉=0.60±0.06±0.04. We derive neutral-current axial-vector couplings of a(b quark)=-0.9±1.1±0.3 and a(c quark)=1.5±1.5±0.5 from the forward-backward asymmetries.

We have measured the cross sections for e + e − → e + e − , e + e − → μ + μ − , e + e − → γγ and e + e − → hadrons in an energy scan at center of mass energies between 39.79 and 46.72 GeV in 30 MeV steps. New spinless bosons, whose existence has been postulated as a possible means to explain the anomalously large radiative width of the Z 0 found at the CERN SPS p p collider, are ruled out in the scan region. The data are used to set limits on the couplings to lepton, photon and quark pairs of bosons with masses above 46.72 GeV.

The differential cross section of the reactione+e−→e+e− at a c.m. energy of 34.7 GeV has been measured. The result, together with our previously measurede+e−→α+α− data, are compared with the standard model predictions. We obtain for the weak neutral current couplings the valuesgv2=0.09×0.06,ga2=0.38×0.08. A fit of the Weinberg mixing angle gives the valuegv2=0.09×0.06,ga2=0.038×0.08. The data are also used to set limits on possible deviations from the pointlike structure of leptons. An upper limit for thee+e− coupling to a heavy spin 0 boson is also given.

Inclusive particle production cross-sections have been measured at the\(Sp\bar pS\) collider using the UA2 detector in various ranges of transverse momentum (PT) and pseudo-rapidity (η). Cross-section measurements are presented forπ0 production (PT≦15 GeV/c, |η|≦0.85 andPT≦40 GeV/c, 1.0≦|η|≦1.8), for η meson production (3≦PT≦6 GeV/c, |η|≦0.85) and for charged particle production (PT≦10 GeV/c, 1.0≦|η|≦1.8). The reaction e + e − →e + e − η ′(958) has been observed by detecting the final state π + π − γ . The two-photon width of the η′ has been measured to be Γ ( η ′→ γγ ) = 5.1±0.4±0.7 keV. A search for the ι (1440) has been made in the ϱ 0 γ final state. An upper limit has been obtained for the product Γ ( ι (1440) → γ ) gg ), B ( ι → ϱ 0 γ ) < 1.5 keV (95%CL).

We report a measurement of the negative pion electromagnetic form factor in the range of space-like four-momentum transfer 0.014 < q 2 < 0.122 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The measurement was made by the NA7 collaboration at the CERN SPS, by observing the interaction of 300 GeV pions with the electrons of a liquid hydrogen target. The form factor is fitted by a pole form with a pion radius of 〈r 2 〈 1 2 = 0.657 ± 0.012 fm.

We have measured the inclusive prompt electron cross section over a wide momentum range (P>0.5 GeV/c) with the PEP-4 TPC detector. The semielectronic branching fractions of thec andb quarks are (9.1±0.9 (stat.)±1.3 (syst.))% and (11.0±1.8±1.0)%, respectively. Theb quark fragmentation function peaks at highz with 〈zb〉=0.74±0.05±0.03. The axial couplings to the neutral current areac=2.3±1.4±1.0 for thec quark andab=−2.0±1.9±0.5 for theb quark.
