The production of Λ,\(\bar \Lambda\) andKs0 has been studied in 200 GeV/nucleonp+S and S+S collisions in the streamer chamber of the NA35 experiment at the CERN SPS. Significant enhancement of the multiplicities of all observed strange particles relative to negative hadrons was observed in central S+S collisions, as compared top+p andp+S collisions. The latter collisions show no overall (relative) strangeness enhancement overp+p, but the rapidity distributions and hadron multiplicities indicate some secondary cascading production of Λ particles in thep+S andp+Au collisions. The Λ polarization in central S+S collisions was found to be compatible with zero up topT=2 GeV/c.

Phys.Lett.B 246 (1990) 267-272, 1990.
Inspire Record 296501 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29676

As part of a programme to study the spin structure of the p p→ n n channel, we have measured the analysing power A 0 n and the differential cross section at an incident antiproton beam momentum of 704 MeV/ c . The analysing power exhibits a remarkable angular dependence, which is poorly reproduced by the existing potential models.

Inspire Record 282042 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19957

The analyzing power (spin-dependent azimuthal asymmetry) has been observed for the first time in the nuclear Coulomb coherent production process, the ‘‘Primakoff process,’’ with the use of the newly constructed 185-GeV/c Fermilab polarized proton beam. We have observed a large asymmetry of this process in the regions of ‖t’‖<0.001 (GeV/c)2 and 1.36

ANALYZING POWERS OF QUASIELASTIC C (p, 2 p) AND Cu (p, 2 p) SCATTERING AT 3.5-GeV AND RELATIVISTIC EFFECTS

Phys.Lett.B 243 (1990) 29-32, 1990.
Inspire Record 281469 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.43788

Analyzing powers have been measured for the quasi-elastic ( p → , 2p ) scattering in carbon and copper using a KEK 3.5 GeV polarized proton beam. The present result shows relatively larger analyzing powers compared with the ones obtained for carbon in the energy region 0.52–2.8 GeV at Saclay (Saturne). The t -dependence for C and Cu ( p → , 2p ) is compared with a calculation based on the relativistic impulse approximation and is reproduced well.

The analyzing power A N of proton-proton, proton-hydrocarbon, and antiproton-hydrocarbon, scattering in the Coulomb-nuclear interference region has been measured using thhe 185 GeV/ c Fermilab polarized-proton and -antiproton beams. The results are found to be consistent with theoretical predictions within statistical uncertainties.

MEASUREMENT OF ANALYZING POWER IN FORWARD ANGLE FOR ELASTIC p d SCATTERING AT 3.5-GeV

Phys.Lett.B 230 (1989) 27-30, 1989.
Inspire Record 277083 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29770

The analyzing power for elastic pd scattering at 3.5 GeV has been measured in the region 0.1⩽−t⩽1.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 , using the polarized proton beam at KEK. The angular distribution shows a behavior similar to that in the lower energy region. It is reproduced fairly well by the predictions of a multiple scattering model based on the Glauber theory.

The Acceleration of Polarized Protons to 22-{GeV}/$c$ and the Measurement of Spin Spin Effects in $p$ (Polarized) + $p$ (Polarized) $\to p + p$

Phys.Rev.D 39 (1989) 45, 1989.
Inspire Record 262472 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23245

Accelerating polarized protons to 22 GeV/c at the Brookhaven Alternating Gradient Synchro- tron required both extensive hardware modifications and a difficult commissioning process. We had to overcome 45 strong depolarizing resonances to maintain polarization up to 22 GeV/c in this strong-focusing synchrotron. At 18.5 GeV/c we measured the analyzing power A and the spin-spin correlation parameter Ann in large- P⊥2 proton-proton elastic scattering, using the polarized proton beam and a polarized proton target. We also obtained a high-precision measurement of A at P⊥2=0.3 (GeV/c)2 at 13.3 GeV/c. At 18.5 GeV/c we found that Ann=(-2±16)% at P⊥2=4.7 (GeV/c)2, where it was about 60% near 12 GeV at the Argonne Zero Gradient Synchrotron. This sharp change suggests that spin-spin forces may have a strong and unexpected energy dependence at high P⊥2.

Measurement of Spin Effects in $p$ (Polarized) $p$ (Polarized) $\to p p$ at 18.5-{GeV}/$c$

We measured the analyzing power A and the spin-spin correlation parameter Ann in medium-P⊥2 proton-proton elastic scattering, using a polarized-proton target and the 18.5-GeV/c Brookhaven Alternating-Gradient Synchrotron polarized-proton beam. We found sharp dips in both A and Ann, which occur at different P⊥2 values. The unexpected sharp structure in the spin-spin force occurs near P⊥2=2.3 (GeV/c)2 where the elastic cross section has no apparent structure.

POLARIZATION MEASUREMENT IN PION NUCLEON CHARGE EXCHANGE PI+ N (POLARIZED) ---> PI0 P AT 6-GEV/C

Fujisaki, M. ; De Lesquen, A. ; Babou, M. ; et al.
Nuovo Cim.A 99 (1988) 395-404, 1988.
Inspire Record 270461 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.37515

The polarization in pion-nucleon charge exchange was measured at 6 GeV/c incident momentum for 0.1 (GeV/c)2 < |t| < 1.6 (GeV/c)2. Using the channel π+ n ↑ → π0p allowed precise measurement of the recoil proton for good rejection of inelastic events. The results are compared with previous experiments using channel π−p ↑ with or without detection of the recoil neutron.
