Proton-proton elastic differential cross sections have been measured for incident laboratory momenta of 600-1800 MeVc and c.m. angles of 5°-90°. The data span, in a single experiment, the intermediate energy region from isotropic differential cross sections at lower energies to the development of a clear diffraction peak at higher energies. Parameters for phenomenological formulations derived from the experimental results are presented.

Neutron-Proton Forward Elastic Scattering from 58-MeV to 391-MeV

Bersbach, A.J. ; Mischke, R.E. ; Devlin, T.J. ;
Phys.Rev.D 13 (1976) 535, 1976.
Inspire Record 99441 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24700

Elastic neutron-proton differential cross sections have been measured between 58 and 391 MeV incident neutron energy at angles in the center-of-mass system from 11° to 54°. Neutrons were scattered from a liquid-H2 target and detected in liquid scintillators. The incident energy of each detected neutron was determined from its time of flight. The data were normalized by placing the detector in the beam. The results are generally consistent with previous data and with the predictions of phase-shift analysis but are of improved accuracy.

Neutron-Proton Charge-Exchange Scattering Between 600-MeV/c and 2000-MeV/c

Inspire Record 89841 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.5223

n−p elastic differential cross sections in the charge-exchange region have been measured for incident neutron momenta between 600 and 2000 MeV/c. The momentum of neutrons incident on a liquid-H2 target was determined by a measurement of flight time over a 32.9-m flight path. The momentum and scattering angles of the recoil proton were measured by a wire-spark-chamber magnetic spectrometer. Approximately 450 000 elastic events were detected for proton laboratory angles between 0° and 62°. Differential cross sections are presented at 16 energies. An absolute normalization of the cross sections was achieved by measuring the incident neutron flux with a detector whose efficiency was determined experimentally.

HYPERON POLARIZATION IN LAMBDA P ELASTIC SCATTERING IN THE RANGE 60-GEV/C < P < 380-GEV/C

Inspire Record 131690 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20918

Polarization of the scattered Λ has been measured in the reaction Λ+p→Λ+p. A total of 90 000 elastic events was recorded. Polarization was observed which decreased in magnitude with increasing momentum. For 0.1<~|t|<~0.4 GeV2 the polarization is P=−0.21±0.07 for p=110 GeV/c and is +0.01±0.04 at p=320 GeV/c. Results for 860 Λ¯−p elastic scatterings are also presented.

We present results from a measurement of double diffraction dissociation in $\bar pp$ collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The production cross section for events with a central pseudorapidity gap of width $\Delta\eta^0>3$ (overlapping $\eta=0$) is found to be $4.43\pm 0.02{(stat)}{\pm 1.18}{(syst) mb}$ [$3.42\pm 0.01{(stat)}{\pm 1.09}{(syst) mb}$] at $\sqrt{s}=1800$ [630] GeV. Our results are compared with previous measurements and with predictions based on Regge theory and factorization.

Observation of diffractive W boson production at the Tevatron

Inspire Record 440095 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.42230

We report the first observation of diffractively produced W bosons. In a sample of W -> e nu events produced in p-barp collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV, we find an excess of events with a forward rapidity gap, which is attributed to diffraction. The probability that this excess is consistent with non-diffractive production is 1.1 10^{-4} (3.8 sigma). The relatively low fraction of W+Jet events observed within this excess implies that mainly quarks from the pomeron, which mediates diffraction, participate in W production. The diffractive to non-diffractive W production ratio is found to be R_W=(1.15 +/- 0.55)%.

Coherent diffractive photoproduction of $\rho^{0}$ mesons on gold nuclei at RHIC

Phys.Rev.C 96 (2017) 054904, 2017.
Inspire Record 1515028 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.101354

The STAR Collaboration reports on the photoproduction of $\pi^+\pi^-$ pairs in gold-gold collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 200 GeV/nucleon-pair. These pion pairs are produced when a nearly-real photon emitted by one ion scatters from the other ion. We fit the $\pi^+\pi^-$ invariant mass spectrum with a combination of $\rho$ and $\omega$ resonances and a direct $\pi^+\pi^-$ continuum. This is the first observation of the $\omega$ in ultra-peripheral collisions, and the first measurement of $\rho-\omega$ interference at energies where photoproduction is dominated by Pomeron exchange. The $\omega$ amplitude is consistent with the measured $\gamma p\rightarrow \omega p$ cross section, a classical Glauber calculation and the $\omega\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-$ branching ratio. The $\omega$ phase angle is similar to that observed at much lower energies, showing that the $\rho-\omega$ phase difference does not depend significantly on photon energy. The $\rho^0$ differential cross section $d\sigma/dt$ exhibits a clear diffraction pattern, compatible with scattering from a gold nucleus, with 2 minima visible. The positions of the diffractive minima agree better with the predictions of a quantum Glauber calculation that does not include nuclear shadowing than with a calculation that does include shadowing.

Polarization of Recoil Protons in pi + /- p Elastic Scattering at 864, 981, and 1301 MeV

Eandi, Richard D. ; Devlin, Thomas J. ; Kenney, Robert W. ; et al.
Phys.Rev. 136 (1964) B1187-B1189, 1964.
Inspire Record 944970 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.535

Angular distributions of recoil-proton polarization in elastic π±p scattering were measured at 864-, 981-, and 1301-MeV incident pion kinetic energy. Polarization measurements were made by observing the azimuthal asymmetry in the subsequent scattering of recoil protons in large carbon-plate spark chambers. The spark chambers proved to be very suitable polarization analyzer detectors. Strong variation of the polarization with backward pion scattering angle was observed.

Polarization of Recoil Protons in pi + /- p Elastic Scattering Near 600 MeV

Eandi, Richard D. ; Devlin, Thomas J. ; Kenney, Robert W. ; et al.
Phys.Rev. 136 (1964) B536-B542, 1964.
Inspire Record 944968 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.529

Angular distributions of recoil-proton polarization in elastic π±p scattering were measured at 523-, 572-, and 689-MeV incident pion kinetic energy. Polarization measurements were made by observing the azimuthal asymmetry in the subsequent scattering of recoil protons in large carbon-plate spark chambers. Typical strong variation of the polarization with pion scattering angle near the πp diffraction minima was observed. Since existing opinion favors a D13 resonance at 600 MeV, a phase-shift analysis was attempted in order to confirm the existence and parity of this resonance. Available πp total and differential cross sections, these polarization data, and some possible restrictive assumptions related to the 600-MeV resonance were used in the analysis. Though the polarization results aided significantly in restricting the number of acceptable phase-shift sets, still, many plausible and qualitatively different sets were found.
