At the Bonn 2.5 GeV electron synchrotron the first measurements of the target asymmetry for the reaction γ + n ↑ → π − + p have been performed. The negative pions were detected in a magnetic spectrometer at a constant pion c.m. angle of 40° and photon energies between 0.45 GeV and 2.0 GeV. Deuterated butanol was used as target material. The polarization of the deuterons was about 16%. The results show a significant difference from the previously measured π + asymmetry.

The results of a comprehensive series of measurements of the cross-sections for the photo-production of π0-mesons from hydrogen at pion c.m. angles from 47 to 145 degrees are presented. The minimum and maximum photon energies have been 238 and 922 MeV respectively.

We present a study of the transverse momentum spectrum of π 0 's produced at c.m. angles θ = 90° and 53° in pp collisions at √ s = 23.6, 30.8, 45.1, 53.2, and 62.9 GeV. The experiment was performed with a lead-glass detector. The data can be described with the usual parametrization p T −n ƒ;(x T , θ) , with n = 7.2 ± 0.2. Comparison between the 90° and 53° data further indicates no appreciable dependence on θ , at least for x T < 0.3. Two-particle inclusive cross sections for π 0 's produced alongside are also presented. They are observed to have a dependence upon the transverse momentum of the dipion similar to that of single-particle cross sections and with the same value of n . Two-photon decays of η mesons are observed between 3 and 4 GeV/ c transverse momentum with a production cross section half of that of π 0 .

We have searched for possible narrow resonances produced in e + e − annihilation at Adone, in the mass regions 1910–2545 MeV and 2970–3090 MeV. No evidence has been found for narrow resonances, within the sensitivity of the present work: we deduce an upper limit on the energy integrated resonant cross section of about 10% of the J/ψ(3100) corresponding value.

The reaction e p→e'p π 0 has been measured at W =2.55 GeV a fixed electron scattering angle of 10.3°. Two magnetic spectrometers and a lead glass hodoscope were used to detect all four final state particles. Electroproduction cross sections in the t range −0.15 to −1.4 (GeV/ c ) 2 at q 2 = −0.22, −0.55 and −0.85 (GeV/ c ) 2 are presented. Above | t |=0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 the cross sections are considerably smaller than those for photoproduction.

The reactions e + e − → hadrons and e + e + e − →e + e − have been studied at the J/gY (3100) resonance). The relative weights of the topological cross sections for fixed charged multiplicity are σ 2 =(32±5)%, σ 4 =(49±8)%, σ 6 =(18±3)%, and σ 8 =(1±0.6)%. The average pion multiplicities are 〈 n ch 〉=3.8±0.3 and 〈n π o 〉=3.1±0.8 . The decay widths are Γ e =(4.6±0.8) keV, Γ h =(59±24) keV, and Γ =(68±26) keV.

The differential cross sections for neutron-proton elastic charge-exchange scattering have been measured with a two-arm technique for incident neutron momenta between 22 and 65 GeV/ c and for values of the momentum transfer squared between 0.002 and 0.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The sharp forward peak observed previously at lower energies is also present at momenta up to 65 GeV/ c ; however the s dependence of the cross section is slowing down.

Cross sections for e+e−→hadrons, e+e−, and μ+μ− near 3684 MeV are presented. The ψ(3684) resonance is established as having the assignment JPC=1−−. The mass is 3684 ± 5 MeV. The partial width for decay to electrons is Γe=2.1±0.3 keV and the total width is Γ=228±56 keV.

Proton-deuteron elastic scattering has been measured in the four-momentum transfer squared region 0.013<|t|<0.14 (GeV/c)2 and for incident proton beam momenta from 50 to 400 GeV/c. The data can be fitted with the Bethe interference formula. We observe shrinkage of the diffraction cone with increasing energy equal to (0.94±0.04)ln(s1 GeV2) (GeV/c)−2. This shrinkage is greater than that observed in pp elastic scattering. The ratio of the elastic to the total cross section is approximately 0.1 and independent of energy above ∼ 150 GeV. In order to extract information on pn scattering we fit our data using the Glauber approach and a form factor which is the sum of exponentials. The values we obtain for the slope parameter in pn scattering are sensitive to the details of the inelastic double-scattering term.
