Large-angle π±p elastic-scattering cross sections, measured between 2 and 9 GeV/c in fine intervals of incident momentum and scattering angle, are used to search for cross-section fluctuations occurring for small changes in the center-of-mass energy as suggested by Ericson and Mayer-Kuckuck and by Frautschi. Significant fluctuations are observed.

Results are presented of polarization parameter measurements for the reaction π − p→ π 0 n at 22 momenta between 617 and 2267 MeV/ c . These results are generally in agreement with those of previous measurements and in qualitative agreement with predictions of phase-shift analyses. Together with the recently published differential cross-section measurements, they provide a comprehensive set of data for this reaction in the resonance region.

The production of strange particles in π + d interactions has been examined at 4 GeV/ c where no previous data exist. Careful attention has been given to the resolution of ambiguities and to corrections for losses in a total sample of about 22 000 events which have been used to determine channel cross sections. Where they can be checked, the cross sections fit well into the observed variation of existing cross sections at higher and at lower energies.

We present results for the reactions νp→μ−π+p and νp→μ−K+p at energies above 5 GeV. The average cross section for the first reaction between 15 and 40 GeV is (0.80±0.12) × 10−38 cm2 and for events with Mπ+p<1.4 GeV is (0.55±0.08) × 10−38 cm2. The ratio of the cross section for the second reaction to that for the first is 0.017±0.010.

RAPIDITY IS MEASURED IN 'QUARK' REST FRAME DEFINED AS Y(Q)=Y(LAB)-LOG(W**2/M**2) WHERE Y(LAB)=0.5*LOG((E+PL)/(E-PL)).
Inclusive momentum and energy spectra of neutral and charged D-mesons produced in e + e − annihilation at energies near 7 GeV are presented. The slope of the energy spectrum is similar to the charged pion spectrum at the same energy. The inclusive cross section σ(e + e − → D or D + anything) at 7 GeV is 4.8±1.3 nb.

We report measurements of the inclusive π− and π+ yields in 24-GeV proton-proton collisions at θc.m.=90° for 2.2≤PT≤2.8 GeV/c. There is a high-PT deficit, rather than excess, at this incident energy.

Data on Λ and\(\bar \Lambda \) polarization inK±p interactions at 32 GeV/c are presented. A comparison is made between the results of these two experiments as well as with the data at lower energies. The contribution of the different production mechanisms to the Λ(\(\bar \Lambda \)) polarization are discussed.
Data are presented on figures only. DATA NOT ENCODED.

We present measurements of the production symmetric high-mass hadron and pion pairs by protons of 200, 300, and 400 GeV, incident on a beryllium target. The two-particle invariant cross section for pion production can be described by the function E1E2d6σdp13dp23=(1.7×10−28)pt−8.4(1−xt)14 cm2/GeV4 (where pt is the mean pt of the two hadrons). Functions of the same form have been used in describing single-pion inclusive production. Equality of the exponents of pt in the two processes is observed, confirming the role of smearing contributions to single-hadron cross sections.
E*D3(SIG)/D3(P) is fitted by CONST*(1-XT)**POWER*PT**POWER.
E1*E2*D6(SIG)/D3(P1)/D3(P2) is fitted by CONST*(1-XT)**POWER*PT**POWER, where PT is (pt1 + pt2)/2.
A high-statistics measurement of the reaction π − p→ η n; η →2 γ has been performed at the 70 GeV Serpukhov accelerator for 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 GeV/ c incident pion momentum using the NICE set-up with its associated 648-channel hodoscope spectrometer for γ-ray detection. It is found that the spin-flip and non-spin-flip amplitudes can be parametrized, for small | t |, as exponentials with the same slopes to within a few percent. For | t | ≳ 1 (GeV/ c ) 2 there is a break in the differential cross section. In addition, the A 2 effective trajectory deviates markedly for | t | ≳ 1 GeV/ c ) 2 from the linear behaviour valid for smaller | t |.
