Measurement of $\omega$ meson production in pp and p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV

We present the measurement of the $p_{\rm T}$-differential production cross section of $ω$ mesons in pp and p$-$Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV at midrapidity by ALICE. In addition, the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor $R_{\text{pPb}}$ for $ω$ mesons at LHC energies is presented, complementing the existing measurements of lighter neutral mesons such as the $π^0$ and $η$. Within the measured $p_{\rm T}$-range, the $R_{\text{pPb}}$ of $ω$ mesons is compatible with no cold nuclear matter effects within the uncertainties, consistent with previous measurements at lower energies. The $ω/π^0$ ratio is presented for both collision systems, showing no collision system dependence within the uncertainties. The comparison to previously published $ω/π^0$ ratios at lower and higher collision energies in pp collisions suggests a decreasing trend of the ratio above $p_{\rm T}=~4 $ GeV/$c$ with increasing collision energy. The data in both collision systems are compared to predictions from PYTHIA, EPOS LHC and DPMJET event generators, revealing significant shortcomings in these models' ability to describe the production of $ω$ mesons.

Light neutral-meson production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

The momentum-differential invariant cross sections of ${π^{0}}$ and $η$ mesons are reported for pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV at midrapidity ($|y|<0.8$). The measurement is performed in a broad transverse-momentum range of $0.2<p_{\rm T}<200$ GeV/$c$ and $0.4 < p_{\rm T} < 60$ GeV/$c$ for the ${π^{0}}$ and $η$, respectively, extending the $p_{\rm T}$ coverage of previous measurements. Transverse-mass-scaling violation of up to 60% at low transverse momentum has been observed, agreeing with measurements at lower collision energies. Transverse Bjorken $x$ ($x_{\rm T}$) scaling of the ${π^{0}}$ cross sections at LHC energies is fulfilled with a power-law exponent of $n = 5.01 \pm 0.05$, consistent with values obtained for charged pions at similar collision energies. The data are compared to predictions from next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations, where the ${π^{0}}$ spectrum is best described using the CT18 parton distribution function and the NNFF1.0 or BDSS fragmentation function. Expectations from PYTHIA8 and EPOS LHC overestimate the spectrum for the ${π^{0}}$ and are not able to describe the shape and magnitude of the $η$ spectrum. The charged-particle multiplicity dependent ${π^{0}}$ and $η$ $p_{\rm T}$ spectra show the expected change of the spectral shape, characterized by a flatter slope with increasing multiplicity. This is demonstrated across a broad transverse-momentum range and up to events with a charged-particle multiplicity exceeding five times the mean value in minimum bias collisions. The $η/π^{0}$ ratio depends on the charged-particle multiplicity for $ p_{\rm T} < 4$ GeV/$c$. PYTHIA8 and EPOS LHC qualitatively explain this behavior with an increasing contribution from the feed-down of heavier particles to the ${π^{0}}$ spectrum.

Measurement of high-p(T) single electrons from heavy-flavor decays in p + p collisions at s**(1/2) = 200-GeV.

The momentum distribution of electrons from decays of heavy flavor (charm and beauty) for midrapidity |y| < 0.35 in p+p collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV has been measured by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) over the transverse momentum range 0.3 < p_T < 9 GeV/c. Two independent methods have been used to determine the heavy flavor yields, and the results are in good agreement with each other. A fixed-order-plus-next-to-leading-log pQCD calculation agrees with the data within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties, with the data/theory ratio of 1.72 +/- 0.02^stat +/- 0.19^sys for 0.3 < p_T < 9 GeV/c. The total charm production cross section at this energy has also been deduced to be sigma_(c c^bar) = 567 +/- 57^stat +/- 224^sys micro barns.

Heavy-flavor decay electrons invariant differential cross-section An additional 10% normalization uncertainty is to add.

Differential charm cross section To obtain this value, the differential "charm-decay" electrons cross-section, integrated over PT>0.4 GeV/c, has been extrapolated down to PT=0 using the spectrum shape predicted by a fixed-order-plus-next-to-leading-log (FONLL)calculation. The contribution from beauty and beauty cascades, estimated to be 0.1 microbarn, has been substracted, and the c->e branching ratio used was 9.5 +- 1.0%.

Total charm cross section To obtain the total charm cross section, the differential charm cross section has been extrapolated to the whole rapidity range, using a HVQMNR rapidity distribution with aCTEQ5M PDF.

Inclusive $K^*$+ (890), $K^*$+ (1430) and $\bar{K}^*$ (890) Production in $K^+ p$ Interactions at 32-{GeV}/$c$

We present final results on inclusive production ofK*+(890),K*+(1430) andK*−(890) in\(\bar K^ +p\) interactions at 32 GeV/c, based on a statistics of ∼27 events/μb. Total cross sections,pT-andx-dependence of inclusive distributions are compared with experiments at other energies and with the Lund fragmentation model. Spin density matrix elements of theK*+(890) are also discussed. The results suggest that “recombination” of both initial state valence quarks\(\bar s\) andu of theK+ intoK*+(890), responsible in the Lund model for ∼45% of theK*+(890) cross section, is strongly suppressed.

Neutral Strange Particle Production in $K^+ p$ Interactions

The production properties ofKs0,\(\bar \Lambda\) andK+p interactions at 32 GeV/c are investigated using the final statistics of the experiment. We present total and semi-inclusive cross sections and aver-age multiplicities. Estimates are given of the diffractive dissociation contributions to total and differential cross sections. Thex-,pT−, and transverse mass dependence of inclusive and semi-inclusive distributions is discussed as well as properties of “prompt”Ks0's. The ratio of “prompt”K890+ (K8900) to “prompt”K0 cross sections is measured to be 1.03±0.12 (0.98±0.17). From a comparison of\(\bar \Lambda\) production inK±p interactions at 32 GeV/c, we estimate a strange sea-quark suppression of 0.26 ±0.02. The double differential cross sections ofKs0's is studied as a function of Feynman-x andpT2, and a Triple-Regge fit performed. The data are compared in detail to versions of the Lund-model for low-pT hadronic collisions.
