Narrow baryonium production in the baryon exchange reactions K − p → Λ p p and K − p → pK − p p at 18.5 GeV/ c is investigated in a 12 events/nb experiment performed at the CERN Ω′ spectrometer. No narrow structure is observed in the p p mass spectra. Upper limits for production of baryonium states are given as a function of p p mass.

A PARTIAL WAVE ANALYSIS OF THE K PI PI SYSTEM PRODUCED IN THE REACTION K- P ---> ANTI-K0 PI+ PI- N AT 8.25-GeV/c

A partial-wave analysis of the K 0 π + π − system from the reaction K − p → K 0 π + π − n has been carried out using data obtained at 8.25 GeV/ c in a high-statistics experiment. A strong signal appears in the 1 + SO + (K ∗ π) wave at the Q 2 mass (≈ 1.4 GeV). The 1 + S0 + (ϱK) wave behaves rather like a background and does not exhibit the characteristics of a resonance. A prominent signal also appears in the 2 + D wave (via K ∗ π and ϱK); it is interpreted as the K ∗ (1430). In the L region (1.6–2.1) GeV, there is evidence for the 3 − K ∗ (1780) while the 2 − wave also gives some contribution.

Production of ϱ 0 , K ∗0 , K ∗0 , and φ have been measured in proton-proton collisions at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR) at low p T in the central region. The transverse mass spectra are well described by exp (− aμ T ), with a = −6.4±0.2 GeV −1 . The cross sections for d σ/ d y| y=0 are 6.5±0.8±1.2 mb for ϱ 0 , 1.9±0.3±0.3 mb for K ∗) , 1.9±03±03 mb for K ∗0 , and 60.±0.12±0.13 mb for φ , where the first error is statistical and the second is sytematic.

DECAY OF B MESONS INTO CHARGED AND NEUTRAL KAONS

Phys.Rev.Lett. 48 (1982) 1070-1074, 1982.
Inspire Record 180612 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27749

Data on inclusive kaon production in e+e− annihilations at energies in the vicinity of the ϒ(4S) resonance are presented. A clear excess of kaons is observed on the ϒ(4S) compared to the continuum. Under the assumption that the ϒ(4S) decays into BB¯, a total of 3.38±0.34±0.68 kaons per ϒ(4S) decay is found. In the context of the standard B-decay model this leads to a value for (b→c)(b→all) of 1.09±0.33±0.13.

KAON SCATTERING FROM C AND CA AT 800-MEV/C

Results from K± elastic and inelastic scattering from C12 and Ca40 are reported. The data were all taken at an incident momentum of 800 MeV/c over an angular range from 2° to 38°. The elastic data are compared to first-order optical model calculations in coordinate and momentum space; good qualitative agreement is obtained. The inelastic data (from C12 only) are compared to distorted-wave Born approximation calculations, and good agreement is found if "realistic" inelastic transition densities are used. Although a first-order optical potential description does not describe the data fully, there are strong indications of the increased penetrability of K+ over K− in this energy range. NUCLEAR REACTIONS C12(K±,K±)C12, Ca40(K±,K±)Ca40, E=442 MeV (800 MeV/c), measured σ(θ) for elastic and inelastic scattering, compared to optical model and DWBA calculations, deduced optical potential parameters; θ=2°−38°, Δθ=1°.

INCLUSIVE K0 PRODUCTION IN E+ E- ANNIHILATION AT THE UPSILON RESONANCES

Nucl.Phys.B 206 (1982) 1-11, 1982.
Inspire Record 183794 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28689

We report on inclusive K 0 production in the region of the upsilon resonances (9.4–10.6 GeV). The K 0 yield for the resonances and continuum below the B B threshold is found to be constant at 0.82 ± 0.10 K 0 per observed hadronic event. At the ϒ (4S), however, the K 0 yield is significantly higher, 1.58 ± 0.35. This increase in K 0 production and the differential cross section d σ /d p of kaons are consistent with B B decay of the ϒ (4S) resonance with the bottom quarks subsequently decaying primarily into charmed quarks.

The reactions π − p → p π − and π − p → p ϱ − ( ϱ − → π − π 0 ) at 10 GeV/ c with the proton in the forward direction in the c.m.s. are discussed on the basis of 953 elastic scattering events and 2240 events of the reaction π − p → p π − π 0 . The total backward cross sections are 0.52±0.10 and 1.52±0.28 μ b, respectively. In both cases the production mechanism is compatible with the dominance of the baryonic Δ δ Regge trajectory exchange. The ϱ − decay angular distributions are studied in the u -channel helicity frame and the spin density matrix elements are presented as functions of u .

STUDY OF THE REACTION K- P ---> PHI PHI LAMBDA AT 8.25-GeV/c

In a high statistics bubble chamber study the reaction K − p → φφΛ is detected with a cross section of 0.7±0.2 μ b. The ratio of φφ production in K − and π − induced reactions is found to be ∼5; this is about ten times smaller than the ratio for the corresponding single φ production reactions.

The dissociation of a K− into the K−ϕ system is studied at 8.25 GeV/c. The cross-section for K−ϕp production is (27±2) μb. All the expected properties of diffraction are found (mass spectrum, mass-slope correlation, 1+S wave dominance). There is also an indication of the Kϕ decay mode of a 2− resonance in theL region.
