The Λ polarization and the differential cross section for the reaction γ+p→K++Λ have been measured, using the Caltech synchrotron, at 90° in the c.m. system and at laboratory photon energies of 1100, 1200, and 1300 MeV. Protons from the asymmetric decay of the Λ were detected by counters placed above and below the production plane. Kaons were identified by their behavior in a thick range telescope. Polarization results were PΛ=+0.34±0.09 at 1100 MeV, +0.30±0.07 at 1200 MeV, and +0.08±0.07 at 1300 MeV, where PΛ was measured in the p^γ×p^Λ direction. The differential cross section was constant with energy at 0.14±0.01 μb/sr. Although the apparent bump in the polarization at 90° at a total energy of ≈1700 MeV adds support to models which invoke a resonance here, no really new conclusions can be reached.

Lambda p interactions in momentum range 300 to 1500 mev/c

A sample of approximately 250 Λp interactions has been obtained in the Λ-hyperon momentum range of about 300 to 500 MeV/ c . An enhanced Λ-hyperon production rate was obtained by exposing an internally-mounted platinum target to the incident 1.5 GeV/ c meson beam. Cross sections and angular distributions are obtained for the reactions: Λ p → Λ p, Λ p → Σ o p and Λ p → Λ p π o . In the elastic channel, no strong evidence is seen near the Σ o p threshold for the presence of a 3 S 1 resonance, which has been reported, although there is some evidence for a small enhancement in this mass region. There is evidence for the presence of P-waves and probably also D-waves above about 800 MeV/ c , but not below this momentum.

STUDY OF DELTA++ PRODUCTION IN THE REACTION pi+ p ---> pi+ pi0 p AT 13.1-GeV/c

Nucl.Phys.B 36 (1972) 363-372, 1972.

We have measured the production and decay angular distributions of the reaction π + p→ π O Δ ++ at 13.1 GeV/ c incident momentum. For − t > 0.1 (GeV/ c ) 2 the data is well described by M1 ϱ-exchange models, the best results being obtained from a weak cut model with a wrong signature nonsense zero. For − t < 0.1 (GeV/c) 2 there is evidence for the existence of other exchange mechanisms.

Interactions of 290 mev/c positive pions with deuterium

Inspire Record 68465 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33084

The total cross section and the differential cross sections of the reactions π + d →π + d (elastic scattering) →π + pn (inelastic scattering) →π 0 pp (charge exchange scattering) →γ pp (radiative absorption) → pp , (non-radiative absorption) have been measured using 85 000 pictures of 290 MeV/ c positive pions in the 38 cm Princeton-Pennsylvania bubble chamber. The elastic, inelastic and charge exchange scattering data are more complete than any previous data in this energy range.

We present new data for the reaction K−p→Ξ−K+ at 3.9-, 4.6-, and 5.0-GeV/c incident momenta. We compare the behavior of K−p→Ξ−K+ with K+p→pK+ backward scattering using a simple model with Reggeized baryon exchange and SU(3).

Large angle pi- proton elastic scattering at 14 and 23 gev/c

Inspire Record 84550 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21401

The differential cross section for π−−p elastic scattering has been measured at 13.8 and 22.6 GeV/c up to −t=5 (GeV/c)2. The dips in the angular distribution at −t≈0.8 and 2.8 (GeV/c)2 previously observed at lower momenta become less prominent at higher momentum. The −t=2.8 (GeV/c)2 dip is still observed at 13.8 GeV/c, but at 22.6 GeV/c it has become a sharp kink in the angular distribution. At large momentum transfers, dσdt at fixed t is still decreasing with increasing s, but at a slower rate in the 14- to 23-GeV/c region than at lower momenta.

Large angle pi+ p and k+ p elastic scattering at 13.8 gev/c

The differential cross section for π+p elastic scattering has been measured at 13.8 GeVc for 0.7<|t|<3.8(GeVc)2. The cross section is found to be equal to that previously obtained for π−p elastic scattering, except in the region |t|=2.8 (GeVc)2, where the π+p data do not show the prominent dip observed in π−p scattering. Data have also been obtained for 13.8−GeVc K+p elastic scattering for 0.8<|t|<2.2 (GeVc)2.

We report on an experiment to obtain differential cross sections for K+p elastic scattering in the vicinity of the possible exotic baryon, the Z1*(1900). The differential cross sections are based on typically 70 000 selected events in the angular region −0.9≤cosθc.m.≤0.9 at each of 22 momenta from 0.865 to 2.125 GeV/c. The data are intended for use in partial-wave analysis to search for the Z1*.
