Decays of $b$ hadrons into final states containing a $D^0$ meson and a muon are used to measure the $b\bar{b}$ production cross-section in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the LHC. In the pseudorapidity interval $2 < \eta < 6$ and integrated over all transverse momenta we find that the average cross-section to produce $b$-flavoured or $\bar{b}$-flavoured hadrons is ($75.3 \pm 5.4 \pm 13.0$) microbarns.
The cross section for b-flavoured hadrons (HADRON/B) as a function of pseudorapidity in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. Cross sections are shown using fragmentation fractions both from LEP and from the Tevatron. See comment above regarding this latter point.
The cross section for b-flavoured hadrons (HADRON/B) over the pseudorapidity range 2.0-6.0 in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. Cross sections are shown using fragmentation fractions both from LEP and from the Tevatron. See comment above regarding this latter point.
We present measurements of the B+ meson total cross section and differential cross section $d\sigma/ dp_T$. The measurements use a $98\pm 4$ pb^{-1} sample of $p \bar p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.8$ TeV collected by the CDF detector. Charged $B$ meson candidates are reconstructed through the decay $B^{\pm} \to J/\psi K^{\pm}$ with $J/\psi\to \mu^+ \mu^-$. The total cross section, measured in the central rapidity region $|y|<1.0$ for $p_T(B)>6.0$ GeV/$c$, is $3.6 \pm 0.6 ({\rm stat} \oplus {\rm syst)} \mu$b. The measured differential cross section is substantially larger than typical QCD predictions calculated to next-to-leading order.
Measured differential cross section for B+ production. The first (DSYS) error is the PT dependent systematic error and the second is the full correlated systematic error.
The total integrated B+ meson cross section. The first error is the combined statistical and PT dependent systematic error. The DSYS error is the fully correlated systematic error.
We present the results of an experiment to search for associated charm production near threshold in 13-GeV/c π−p interactions. A large aperture PWC spectrometer was sensitive to the decay fragments of the forward-produced D*−’s expected from the two-body reactions π−+p→D*−+Λc+,Σc +,. . . . The missing baryon mass was determined from the vector momenta of the incident pion and the candidate D*−. No evidence for these reactions was found, which resulted in a 7-nb upper limit (95% confidence level) for each of the cross sections σ(π−p→D*−Λc+) and σ(π−p→D*−Σc+).
