Results are presented on vector meson production in the hypercharge exchange reactions: π + p → K ∗+ (890) Y + and K − p→ ρ − Y + where Y + is either Σ + or Y ∗+ (1385). These reactions have been studied at 7 GeV/ c and 11.5 GeV/ c using the SLAC Hybrid Facility. Total and differential cross sections, hyperon polarization, and vector meson decay angular distributions are presented. We find that reactions with Σ + production are dominated by natural parity exchange. The Y ∗ (1385) reactions are consistent with substantial natural parity exchange contributions but also show significant unnatural parity exchange. The differential cross sections and polarization measurements for the vector meson production are compared to the pseudoscalar production reactions.

Production of A=6,7 nuclides in the alpha + alpha reaction and cosmic ray nucleosynthesis

Phys.Rev.C 63 (2001) 065805, 2001.
Inspire Record 554990 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.31440

Cross sections for production of 6He, 6Li, 7Li, and 7Be in the alpha+alpha reaction were measured at bombarding energies of 159.3, 279.6, and 619.8 MeV, and are found to decrease rapidly with increasing energy. These cross sections are essential for the calculation of the rate of nucleosynthesis of the lithium isotopes in the cosmic rays and thereby play a key role in our understanding of the synthesis of Li, Be, and B. The results for 6Li differ significantly from the tabulated values commonly used in cosmic-ray production calculations and lead to lower production of 6Li.

Rapidity and transverse momentum distributions in 6.4-TeV S + Pb interactions from CERN EMU05 experiments. EMU-005 experiment

Mixed transverse(P T ) momentum and rapidity distributions of charged particles produced in 200 GeV/AMU heavy ion collisions are obtained with Magnetic-Interferometric-Emulsion-Chamber ( MAGIC ) by CERN-EMU05 experiments. The P T spectra at different rapidity regions showed no anomalous enhancement of low P T components over a conventional, single exponential function with slope values ranging from 160 to 200 MeV/c.

Particle correlations of the central collision events of 32 S + Pb at 200 GeV/AMU have been studied by utilizing a Magnetic-Interferometric-Emulsion-Chamber (MAGIC) detector. Particle angles, momentum, and charge-signs are measured for all produced charged tracks for each event. Two-particle correlation functions, C 2 = dN (¦ p 1 − p 2 ¦= q )/ dp 1 dp 2 , for (++), (−−) and (+-) particles are examined. A source radius around 4 – 6 fm is observed for overall identical particle correlations, while unexpected short-range correlations of unlike-sign pairs are observed in the high rapidity region. An analysis of unlike-sign pairs in terms of resonance decays indicated that a large amount (40% relative to pions) of η or ω mesons (decaying into 3 π), or of scalar iso-scalar σ mesons (decaying into 2π) would be required to explain some of the data. Multi-particle charge-sign clusters are recognized; however, their “run-test” and “conjugate-test” show small deviations from statistical fluctuations.

We present an improved determination of the proton structure functions $F_{2}$ and $xF_{3}$ from the CCFR $\nu $-Fe deep inelastic scattering (DIS) experiment. Comparisons to high-statistics charged-lepton scattering results for $F_{2}$ from the NMC, E665, SLAC, and BCDMS experiments, after correcting for quark-charge and heavy-target effects, indicate good agreement for $x>0.1$ but some discrepancy at lower x. The $Q^{2}$ evolution of the structure functions yields the quantum chromodynamics (QCD) scale parameter $\Lambda_{\bar{MS}}^{NLO,(4)}=337 \pm 28$(exp.) MeV. This corresponds to a value of the strong coupling constant at the scale of mass of the Z-boson of $\alpha _{S}(M_{Z}^{2})=0.119 \pm 0.002 (exp.) \pm 0.004 (theory)$ and is one of the most precise measurements of this quantity.

The total pair production cross-section of gamma-rays in hydrogen and deuterium

The total electromagnetic cross sections of g-rays in hydrogen and deuterium have been measured over the energy range 265–4215 MeV using a photon tagging system. From these measurements, the total pair production cross sections are obtained, and the results are found to be in good agreement with the predictions of Jost, Luttinger and Slotnick.

We have measured the production and decay angular distributions of the reaction π + p→ π O Δ ++ at 13.1 GeV/ c incident momentum. For − t > 0.1 (GeV/ c ) 2 the data is well described by M1 ϱ-exchange models, the best results being obtained from a weak cut model with a wrong signature nonsense zero. For − t < 0.1 (GeV/c) 2 there is evidence for the existence of other exchange mechanisms.

The total photon deuteron hadronic cross-section in the energy range 0.265-4.215 gev

The total cross section for photoproduction of hadrons on the deutron, σ T d , has been measured for photon energies in the range 0.265–40215 GeV. From this, using results for the photon total cross section, obtained previously with the same apparatus, the neutron total cross section has been determined in the resonance region. The resonant structure is found to be quite different from that for the proton. Thereafter the neutron cross section falls off steadily with energy, and the values obtained are consistently lower than those for the proton. Forward scattering amplitudes have been evaluated for the deuteron.

Lambda p interactions in momentum range 300 to 1500 mev/c

A sample of approximately 250 Λp interactions has been obtained in the Λ-hyperon momentum range of about 300 to 500 MeV/ c . An enhanced Λ-hyperon production rate was obtained by exposing an internally-mounted platinum target to the incident 1.5 GeV/ c meson beam. Cross sections and angular distributions are obtained for the reactions: Λ p → Λ p, Λ p → Σ o p and Λ p → Λ p π o . In the elastic channel, no strong evidence is seen near the Σ o p threshold for the presence of a 3 S 1 resonance, which has been reported, although there is some evidence for a small enhancement in this mass region. There is evidence for the presence of P-waves and probably also D-waves above about 800 MeV/ c , but not below this momentum.
