Results are presented of a measurement of the production of D*+ (D*−) in 250-GeV/c π−N interactions. We observe 2.1±7.8 events corresponding to a charge-D* cross section σ(D*) of 0.4±1.5 μb/nucleon. When averaged with our previous measurement made at 200 GeV/c, the result is σ(D*)=2.3±1.0 μb/nucleon with (dσ/dx)‖x=0=4.6±2.0 μb.

Charged hadron multiplicity fluctuations in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions from sqrt(s_NN) = 22.5 to 200 GeV

The PHENIX collaboration Adare, A. ; Adler, S.S. ; Afanasiev, S. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 78 (2008) 044902, 2008.
Inspire Record 785509 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.143616

A comprehensive survey of event-by-event fluctuations of charged hadron multiplicity in relativistic heavy ions is presented. The survey covers Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 62.4 and 200 GeV, and Cu+Cu collisions sqrt(s_NN) = 22.5, 62.4, and 200 GeV. Fluctuations are measured as a function of collision centrality, transverse momentum range, and charge sign. After correcting for non-dynamical fluctuations due to fluctuations in the collision geometry within a centrality bin, the remaining dynamical fluctuations expressed as the variance normalized by the mean tend to decrease with increasing centrality. The dynamical fluctuations are consistent with or below the expectation from a superposition of participant nucleon-nucleon collisions based upon p+p data, indicating that this dataset does not exhibit evidence of critical behavior in terms of the compressibility of the system. An analysis of Negative Binomial Distribution fits to the multiplicity distributions demonstrates that the heavy ion data exhibit weak clustering properties.

Measurement of the Structure Functions F2 and Xf3 and Comparison With {QCD} Predictions Including Kinematical and Dynamical Higher Twist Effects

Inspire Record 245094 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15775

The isoscalar nucleon structure functionsF2(x, Q2) andxF3(x, Q2) are measured in the range 0<Q2<64 GeV2, 1.7<W2<250 GeV2,x<0.7 using ν and\(\bar v\) interactions on neon in BEBC. The data are used to evaluate possible higher twist contributions and to determine their impact on the evaluation of the QCD parameter Λ. In contrast to previous analyses reaching to such lowW2 values, it is found that a low\(\Lambda _{\overline {MS} } \) value in the neighbourhood of 100 MeV describes the data adequately and that the contribution of dynamical higher twist effects is small and negative.

Charged particle multiplicity near mid-rapidity in central Au + Au collisions at S**(1/2) = 56-A/GeV and 130-A/GeV

We present the first measurement of pseudorapidity densities of primary charged particles near mid-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 56 and 130 AGeV. For the most central collisions, we find the charged particle pseudorapidity density to be $dN/d\eta |_{|\eta|<1} = 408 \pm 12 {(stat)} \pm 30 {(syst)}$ at 56 AGeV and $555 \pm 12 {(stat)} \pm 35 {(syst)}$ at 130 AGeV, values that are higher than any previously observed in nuclear collisions. Compared to proton-antiproton collisions, our data show an increase in the pseudorapidity density per participant by more than 40% at the higher energy.

An Investigation of the Emc Effect Using Anti-neutrinos Interactions in Deuterium and Neon

Antineutrino interactions in BEBC are compared to look for differences between the differential cross sections per nucleon in neon and in deuterium. The identical geometries, beam spectra and muon identification criteria and acceptances allow comparison with very small systematic errors. The results are compared in detail with μ and e scattering data from EMC and SLAC. We find no rise in the ratio d σ/ d x ( ν Ne )/σ/ d x ( ν D 2 ) at low x , independent of Q 2 up to Q 2 ∼ 14 GeV 2 .

Nearly 40000 neutrino and antineutrino interactions in BEBC are compared to measure the differences between neon and deuterium in the quark and antiquark distributions and in the nucleon structure functions. The ratio of Ne to D cross sections indicates some decrease betweenx∼0.2 andx∼0.6. They distributions show there is no significant increase in the neon sea, but prefer a small decrease. Taken altogether, thex andy distributions and the measured total cross-sections indicate some change in the shape of the valence distributions. No significant dependence onA is observed for either the shape of the sea or the ratio of longitudinal to transverse cross-sections.

Measurement of the Neutral to Charged Current Cross-section Ratios for Neutrino and Anti-neutrino Interactions on Protons

The WA21 collaboration Jones, G.T. ; Jones, R.W.L. ; Kennedy, B.W. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 178 (1986) 329, 1986.
Inspire Record 18429 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36611

The ratios R vp and R vp of the neutral current to charged current cross sections for neutrino and antineutrino interactions on protons have been measured in BEBC. The beam was the CERN SPS 400 GeV wideband beam. The bubble chamber, equipped with the standard External Muon Identifier, was surrounded with an additional plane of wire chambers (Internal Picket Fence), which was added to improve neutral current event identification. For a total transverse momentum of the charged hadrons above 0.45 GeV/ c and a charged multiplicity of at least 3, it was found that R vp = 0.384 ± 0.015 and R vp = 0.338 ± 0.014 ± 0.016, corresponding to a value of sin 2 θ w (M w MS of 0.225 ± 0.030 . Combining the results from hydrogen and an isoscalar target, the differences of the neutral current chiral coupling constants were found to be u 2 l − d 2 L = −0.080 ± 0.043 ± 0.012 and u 2 R − d 2 R = 0.021±0.055±0.028.
