An enhancement in the (K − π + ) mass distribution at 1871 ± 10 MeV with full width of 285 ± 40 MeV is observed in the charge-exchange reaction K − p → K − π + n at 10 and 16 GeV/ c . The energy dependence of its cross section, the shape of the differential cross section d σ /d t and the decay angular distributions are consistent with a production mechanism by pion exchange. No significant enhancement at the same mass is seen in the non-charge exchange reaction K − p → (K π ) − p. The experimental evidence is reviewed and it is suggested that there may be more than one K ∗ enhancement in the 1700–1900 mass region.

We study the reactions π + p → π + p nπ 0 ( n = 2, 3) at 3.5 GeV/ c , with 940 and 143 events, respectively. Complete final states are recorded and measured in a heavy liquid bubble chamber. We find the cross sections: sigma;(π + p → π + p 2π 0 ) = 1300 ± 210 μ b , σ(π + p → π + p 3π 0 ) = 320 ± 70 μ b , below the values predicted by statistical models from charged pion data. The mass spectra are given and channel separations are performed using Van Hove variables. Our results are in agreement with charged pion experiments. We present a description of the 3 π 0 system, with 61 events. Under certain hypotheses a spin-parity analysis favours 0 − at low mass and 1 − at high mass.

Qausi-elastic ω production by ep scattering in the kinematic region 0.3. < Q 2 < 1.4 GeV 2 and 1.7 < W < 2.8 GeV was studied using a streamer chamber at DESY. The production angular distribution for γ V p → ω p has a strong non-peripheral component for W < 2 GeV. The ω production cross section falls by a factor of 4 as W changes from 1.7 to 2.8 GeV. In contrast the cross section for ω production with | t | < 0.5 GeV 2 is W independent between 1.7 and 2.8 GeV and for W > 2.0 GeV consistent in both W and Q 2 dependence with the predictions of a model based on one-pion exchange and diffraction.

A measurement of the polarization parameter P 0 in pp elastic scattering has been made at 24 GeV/ c over the range | t | = 0.1 to 0.9 (GeV/ c ) 2 , positive, falling to zero around | t | = 0.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 . For the range 0.1 ⪕ |t| ⪕ 0.4 GeV /c) 2 , P 0 is constant at about 0.03.
Axis error includes +- 5/5 contribution (SYS-ERR DUE MAINLY TO UNCERTAINTY IN KNOWLEDGE OF ABSOLUTE VALUE OF TARGET POLARIZATION).
Topological and channel cross sections are given for annihilation and inelastic final states produced in p p interactions at 9.1 GeV/c. Cross sections for prominent resonances in specific channels and charged pion, ϱ 0 and Δ ++ inclusive cross sections are also presented.

Pion production on a CD2 target has been measured using the high-resolution magnetic spectrometer SPES I. Differential cross sections for the reaction D(p, π+)T have been determed at Tp=410, 605, and 809 MeV. The present data, together with previous results establish a complete angular distribution of the reaction D(p, π+)T at ∼ 600 MeV and the energy dependence of the differential cross section for this reaction at several constant momentum transfers.

A study of the inclusive production of π − , η , ϱ 0 , ω ad f mesons in p p annihilation at 0.7 GeV/ c is presented. Topological and channel cross sections are determined. Longitudinal and transversal momentum distributions of non-strange mesons are studied. It is deduced that nearly 48% of all negative pions arise from the decay of η , ϱ 0 , ω and f mesons.

Inclusive ϱ 0 production in γ p → ϱ 0 + anything is studied at 2.8, 4.7, and 9.3 GeV, using the SLAC linearly polarized backscattered laser photon beam and the 82 inch hydrogen bubble chamber. Over this energy range the inclusive inelastic ϱ 0 cross section rises from 6.0 μb to 20.5 μb. The multiplicity, i.e. the average number of μ 0 mesons per inelastic hadronic event, has an energy dependence consistent with 1n s .

We have measured the neutron-proton charge-exchange differential cross section in the momentum interval 60 to 300 GeV/c, with squared four-momentum transfers 0.002 to 0.8 (GeV/c)2. Independent of incident momentum, the data are characterized by a sharp forward peak of width 0.02 (GeV/c)2, followed by a shoulder and gentler falloff at higher momentum transfers.

We report measurements of kaon electroproduction from hydrogen and deuterium targets carried out at the Wilson Synchrotron Laboratory at Cornell University. The reactions γVp→K+X0, K+Γ, and K+Σ0 were studied in the kinematic region 2.15≤W≤3.1 GeV and 1.2<Q2<4.0 GeV2 as a function of Q2, W, and ω. The K+Σ0 cross sections fall much more rapidly with increasing Q2 than the K+Λ cross sections so that K+Σ0KΛ→0 as Q2 increases.
