K − p reactions have been studied at 13 different incident momenta between 1138 and 1434 MeV/ c . This interval corresponds to a mass of the K − p system varying from 1858 to 1993 MeV. About 300 000 photographs were taken in the 81 cm Saclay hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to a separated K − beam at the CERN proton-synchrotron. A total of about 44 000 events were analyzed, from which partial and differential cross sections were determined. Polarizations were obtained for the two-body reactions where the decay of the Λ or Σ hyperon allowed their measurement. Data for the two-body channels are presented here as well as for the main quasi-two-body reactions.

Measurements of the polarization parameter and angular distributions in pp elastic scattering at incident energies of 100 and 300 GeV are reported. The data cover the kinematic range 0.18<−t<2.0 GeV2. They are found to be consistent with absorption-model predictions.

We report measurements of the polarization parameters in π+p and π−p elastic scattering at an incident momentum of 100 GeV/c. The results cover the range 0.18<~−t<~1.4 GeV2 and are in agreement with current Regge-model predictions.

Measurements of the polarization parameters and angular distributions are reported for π±p elastic scattering at 100 GeV/c and for pp elastic scattering at 100- and 300-GeV/c incident momentum. The π±p data cover the kinematic range 0.18≤−t≤1.10 GeV2 and are in agreement with current Regge-model predictions. The pp data cover the kinematic range 0.15≤−t≤1.10 GeV2 and 0.15≤−t≤2.00 GeV2 at 100 and 300 GeV/c, respectively, and are found to be consistent with absorption-model predictions.

Precise measurements of deuteron vector and tensor analyzing powers Ayd, Axx, Ayy, and Axz in d−p elastic scattering were performed via 1H(d→,d)p and 1H(d→,p)d reactions at three incoming deuteron energies of Edlab=140, 200, and 270 MeV. A wide range of center-of-mass angles from ≈10° to 180° was covered. The cross section was measured at 140 and 270 MeV at the same angles. These high precision data were compared with theoretical predictions based on exact solutions of three-nucleon Faddeev equations and modern nucleon-nucleon potentials combined with three-nucleon forces. Three-body interactions representing a wide range of present day models have been used: the Tucson-Melbourne 2π-exchange model, a modification thereof closer to chiral symmetry, the Urbana IX model, and a phenomenological spin-orbit ansatz. Large three-nucleon force effects are predicted, especially at the two higher energies. However, only some of them, predominantly dσ/dΩ and Ayd, are supported by the present data. For tensor analyzing powers the predicted effects are in drastic conflict to the data, indicating defects of the present day three-nucleon force models.

We present new accurate measurements of the differential cross section $\sigma(\theta)$ and the proton analyzing power $A_{y}$ for proton-$^{3}$He elastic scattering at various energies. A supersonic gas jet target has been employed to obtain these low energy cross section measurements. The $\sigma(\theta)$ distributions have been measured at $E_{p}$ = 0.99, 1.59, 2.24, 3.11, and 4.02 MeV. Full angular distributions of $A_{y}$ have been measured at $E_{p}$ = 1.60, 2.25, 3.13, and 4.05 MeV. This set of high-precision data is compared to four-body variational calculations employing realistic nucleon-nucleon (NN) and three-nucleon (3N) interactions. For the unpolarized cross section the agreement between the theoretical calculation and data is good when a $3N$ potential is used. The comparison between the calculated and measured proton analyzing powers reveals discrepancies of approximately 50% at the maximum of each distribution. This is analogous to the existing ``$A_{y}$ Puzzle'' known for the past 20 years in nucleon-deuteron elastic scattering.

We have measured the polarization parameter and differential cross sections in K+p elastic scattering from a polarized target from small |t| and small |u| at five momentum points: 1.7, 2.1, 2.4, 2.7, and 3.0 GeV/c. The polarized-proton target was butanol cooled at 0.5° by a He3-He4 refrigerator; a combination of multiwire proportional chambers and scintillation counters detected the scattered particles. The results for small |u| are discussed in the context of pure Regge-pole models with exchange-degenerate Λ trajectories.

By using a polarized deuteron target we have measured the asymmetry in the differential cross section for elastic scattering of protons on deuterons and for quasi-elastic scattering of protons on protons bound in deuterons between the two states of opposite polarization, normal to the scattering plane of the initial deuteron. The beam momentum was 1.21 GeV/ c . It is checked that the neutrons bound in the deuterons are polarized to approximately 20%.
