We present a measurement of the ttbar production cross section in ppbar collisions at root(s) = 1.8TeV by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measurement is based on data from an integrated luminosity of approximately 125 pb~-1 accumulated during the 1992-1996 collider run. We observe 39 ttbar candidate events in the dilepton and lepton+jets decay channels with an expected background of 13.7+-2.2 events. For a top quark mass of 173.3GeV/c~2, we measure the ttbar production cross section to be 5.5+-1.8 pb.
Different channels are used for evaluation of the cross section magnitudes. The last value is obtained from the previous one by adding the errors in quadrature.
We measure the ttbar production cross section in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV in the lepton+jets channel. Two complementary methods discriminate between signal and background, b-tagging and a kinematic likelihood discriminant. Based on 0.9 fb-1 of data collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we measure sigma_ttbar=7.62+/-0.85 pb, assuming the current world average m_t=172.6 GeV. We compare our cross section measurement with theory predictions to determine a value for the top quark mass of 170+/-7 GeV.
The combined result for the TOP TOPBAR production cross section at top quark mass of 175 GeV.. The second DSYS error is the uncertainty on the luminosity.
The cross section for TOP TOPBAR production at the world average top quark mass of 172.6 GeV.. Errors contain both statistics and systematics.
A study has been made of pseudoscalar mesons produced centrally in pp interactions. The results show that the eta and etaprime appear to have a similar production mechanism which differs from that of the pi0. The production properties of the eta and etaprime are not consistent with what is expected from double Pomeron exchange. In addition the production mechanism for the eta and etaprime is such that the production cross section are greatest when the azimuthal angle between the pT vectors of the two protons is 90 degrees.

Resonance production as a function of dPT - the difference in the transverse momentum vectors of the two exchange particles, expressed as a percentage of its total contribution.
T distributions have been fitted to the form D(SIG)/D(T) = const(NAME=ALPHA)*EXP(-SLOPE(C=1)*T) + const(NAME=BETA)*T**2*EXP(-SLOPE(C=2)*T).
Decay modes of the charmed mesons, D 0 and D + , are studied in e + e − annihilation data at 4.03 and 4.41 GeV c.m. energy. The products of cross section times branching ratio are measured for the K − π + , K − π + π + π − , K S π + π − and K − π + π + final states. Upper limits are established for the Cabibbo forbidden decays via π + π − , K + K − , K + K − π + , K + π + π − and π + π − π + . The K − π + π + π − final state is shown to be dominated by K − π + ρ 0 .

We measured the capture-fission excitation functions for the 32S+181Ta reaction and the 38S+181Ta reaction. (The radioactive 38S beam was produced by projectile fragmentation.) In the 32S-induced reaction, an incomplete fusion component was observed at high energies, with an average linear momentum transfer corresponding to the escape of an α particle. The deduced interaction barrier heights were 130.7±0.3 and 124.8±0.3 MeV for the 32S- and 38S-induced reactions, respectively. No differences between the two reactions were observed beyond a simple shift in the interaction barrier height.
A typical beam energy resolution was 0.01 TO 0.1 MeV. In the S32-induced reaction, an incomplete fussion component was observed at high energies, with an average linear momentum transfer corresponding to th e escape of an alpha patticle. The deduced interaction barrier heights were 130 .7+-0.3 and 124.8+-0.3 MeV for the S32 and S38-induced reactions respectively.
A typical beam energy resolution was 0.01 TO 0.1 MeV.
A search for excited states of the standard model fermions was performed using the ZEUS detector at the HERA electron-proton collider, operating at a centre of mass energy of 296 GeV. In a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.55 pb−1, no evidence was found for any resonant state decaying into final states composed of a fermion and a gauge boson. Limits on the coupling strength times branching ratio of excited fermions are presented for masses between 50 GeV and 250 GeV, extending previous search regions significantly.

We present results of a search for W+W− production through the leptonic decay channel W+W−→l+l−νν¯ in p¯p collisions at s=1.8TeV. In a 108pb−1 data sample recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab, five W+W− candidates are found with an expected standard model background of 1.2±0.3 events. The W+W− production cross section is measured to be σ(p¯p→W+W−)=10.2−5.1+6.3(stat)±1.6(syst)pb, in agreement with the standard model prediction. Limits on WWγ and WWZ anomalous couplings are presented.

New data are presented on charged particle multiplicity distributions for non single-diffractive events produced at CM energies s = 200 and 900 GeV . The data were obtained at the CERN antiproton-proton collider operated in a new pulsed mode. The multiplicity distributions are very well described by a negative binomial distribution. The highest energy data show no sign of approaching scaling, confirming our earlier results on the breaking of KNO scaling. The energy variation of the average charged multiplicity can be fitted to a quadratic in ln s or a s 0.13 dependence.
Figure gives uncorrected multiplicity distributions. Here we give the corrected distributions. Data supplied by D. Ward.
Results for multiplicity moments based on negative binomial fit to corrected data. Errors reflect both statistical and systematic effects. Results from earlier data at 546 Gev cm energy are also given.
C moments for corrected data where CQ=<N**Q>/<N>**Q.
The reaction γp→; π + π − p in the energy range 4.1 to 6.2 GeV has been studied with a tagged photon beam incident on a liquid hydrogen target in the DESY one-meter streamer chamber. The reaction is analysed in terms of the longitudinal phase space (LPS) method. The one-pion-exchange model for Δ(1236) production and decay is examined. For the diffractive part of the LPS a dual model with pomeron exchange is investigated. In particular, the s -channel helicity conservation dual model of Dewey and Humpert describes the data well.

A study of the properties of charm particles produced in 360 GeV/c π-p interactions is reported. The experiment was performed using the high resolution hydrogen bubble chamber LEBC in association with the European Hybrid Spectrometer at the CERN SPS. Details of the exposure and operation of the spectrometer are given and the methods used to extract the charm data are presented. The essential physics results on the decay properties (lifetime, branching ratios) as well as on the hadroproduction properties (cross sections forD,\(\bar D\),F, Λc,D, correlations between charm particles) are given.
