In a new measurement of proton total cross sections at 3.00 GeV/c, the p−d total cross section is found to be lower than a previous measurement by 1.17±0.09 mb. This implies a corresponding new value for the total cross section for I=0 which is 2.18±0.27 mb lower than the previous value. Possible sources of systematic error are discussed.

Invariant cross-sections are presented for the inclusive reaction p + p → π o + anything, Measurements of large transverse momentum π o 's (2.5 GeV/ c < p ⊥ <9 GeV/ c ) were made near 90° at the CERN ISR at five centre-of-mass energies (√ s = 23.5, 30.6, 44.8, 52.7 and 62.4 GeV. At large p ⊥ , the invariant cross-sections are seem to vary with s and p ⊥ , in good agreement with a fit of the form Ap ⊥ − n F ( p ⊥ /√ s ), with n ≈8 and F ( p ⊥ /√ s )≈ exp (−26 p ⊥ /√ s ).

We have measured ep, eπ+, and eπ− coincidences for scattered electrons in the range Q2=0.4 to 2.2 GeV2 and W=2 to 4 GeV. We find (a) that vector-meson production decreases with Q2 more rapidly than does the total virtual-photon-plus-proton cross section, more rapidly even than the prediction of simple vector dominance, (b) that the slope of the t distribution in ρ and ω production becomes flatter with increasing Q2 and seems to be at least approximately a function of the single variable xρ=(Q2+mρ2)2Mν, (c) that the fraction of final states containing a proton decreases with increasing Q2, (d) that in the central region of longitudinal momenta the inclusive π+ yield seems to increase relative to the π− yield as Q2 increases, and (e) that the average transverse momentum of π− is greater than of π+ in the central region of longitudinal momenta.

The data with (C=Q=RHO+OMEGA) are obtained by excluding the contribution from RHO and OMEGA production.

We report here additional positive results of a search for muonless neutrino- and anti-neutrino-induced events using an enriched antineutrino beam and a muon identifier of relatively high geometric detection efficiency. The ratio of muonless to muon event rates is observed to be R=0.20±0.05. We observe no background derived from ordinary neutrino or antineutrino interactions that is capable of explaining the muonless signal.

We have measured the inclusive cross sections for γ, Ks0, Λ, and Λ¯ production in π+p and pp interactions at 100 GeV/c and compared various inclusive distributions of the produced γ and Ks0.

Inclusive Δ++(1236) production in π+p and pp interactions is consistent with one-pion exchange. The average charged multiplicity recoiling from the Δ++ is studied as a function of missing mass, M2, for both interactions.

We determine the ratio of the partial decay width for ψ(3684)→μ+μ− to that for the cascade decay ψ(3684)→ψ(3095)+X to be (1.4 ± 0.3)% and, by direct observation of associated charged particles and γ rays, find the ratio of the partial decay width for ψ(3684)→ψ(3095)+π0π0 to that for ψ(3684)→ψ(3095)+π+π− to be 0.64 ± 0.15.

Measurements of the differential cross section for the inclusive production of high-energy π0's are reported for the reactions π±p→π0X at a laboratory momentum of 14 GeV/c. The kinematic range covered, in terms of the Feynman scaling variable x and the transverse momentum P⊥, is 0.25≤x≤1.0 and 0≤P⊥≤0.7 GeV/c. Two spectrometers, both employing large NaI(Tl) crystals, are used to detect the π0's and to identify them with a mass resolution of 17 MeV (full width at half maximum). The results are in accord with the hypothesis of limiting fragmentation, which regards the measured reactions, in the kinematic range covered, as examples of disfavored fragmentation.

Results on K 0 and Λ production in p↑p interactions at 6 GeV are presented. The data are from an exposure of the Argonne 12 ft bubble chamber to a 60% transversely polarized proton beam. Results include data on Λ and K 0 inclusive production, and on the reactions p↑p → p Λ K + (p Σ 0 K + ). The beam asymmetry parameter for p ↑ p → K 0 ( K 0 ) + X is determined to be (−0.52 ± 0.12).

Data are presented on the reactions π + n → ϱ 0 + X and K − p → K ∗0 + X at 6.0 and 7.3 GeV/ c , respectively. Comparisons are made between these two reactions and with other reactions involving inclusive vector meson production at different energies.
