We have measured np→dπ0 cross sections at eleven beam energies within 16 MeV of threshold. Total cross sections are only 0.67±0.10 of the value which has been generally accepted for s-wave pion production strength near threshold. The differential cross sections are anisotropic at only 1 MeV (c.m.) above threshold. Our results are compared to π+d→pp data and to predictions of two models.

We report on a high statistics study of π0 and η production in continuum events and in direct decays of the Γ(1S) and Γ(2S) resonances. The measured production rates per event are\(\left\langle {n_{\pi ^0 } } \right\rangle\)=3.22 ± 0.07 ± 0.31 (3.97 ± 0.23 ± 0.38) and 〈nη〉=0.19 ± 0.04 ± 0.04 (0.40 ± 0.14 ± 0.09) for continuum events (direct Γ(1S) decays).

Experimental Study of Jet Masses in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation at $c$.m. Energies Between 12-{GeV} and 43.5-{GeV}

The TASSO collaboration Braunschweig, W. ; Gerhards, R. ; Kirschfink, F.J. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 45 (1989) 11, 1989.
Inspire Record 279165 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15297

Data on jet masses, resulting from the decomposition ofe+e− hadronic final states into two hemispheres, are presented at centre of mass energies between 12 and 43.5 GeV. Comparisons are made with bareO(αs2) QCD predictions as well as with QCD based fragmentation models. Values for αs and\(\Lambda _{\overline {MS} } \) are determined, both with and without hadronization effects included. Upper and lower limits for\(\Lambda _{\overline {MS} } \) independent of fragmentation models have been determined to be 0.480±0.025 GeV and 0.047±0.007 GeV respectively.

A Measurement of the Charmed Quark Asymmetry in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation

The JADE collaboration Ould-Saada, F. ; Allison, J. ; Ambrus, K. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 44 (1989) 567, 1989.
Inspire Record 278937 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15357

The charmed quark charge asymmetry has been measured at the average centre of mass energy of 35 GeV with the JADE detector at thee+e− storage ring PETRA. Charmed quarks were identified byD*± tagging using the ΔM technique.D*± mesons were reconstructed through their decay intoD0 mesons resulting in (Kπ) π and (K π π π) π final states. The measured charge asymmetryA=−0.149±0.067 is in agreement with the expectation from the electroweak interference effect in quantum flavour dynamics (QFD).

Inspire Record 280604 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23053

We have measured the production polarization and magnetic moment of a sample of 89×103Ξ− hyperons produced in the inclusive reaction p(400 GeV/c)+Cu→Ξ−+X. The weighted average of the polarization is -0.070±0.008±0.010 at a pt of 0.63 GeV/c. The Ξ−'s magnetic moment yields the value μΞ=−0.661±0.036±0.036 nuclear magnetons. The first error is statistical, the second systematic.

An investigation of the spin structure of the proton in deep inelastic scattering of polarized muons on polarized protons.

Nucl.Phys.B 328 (1989) 1, 1989.
Inspire Record 280143 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.49587

The spin asymmetry in deep inelastic scattering of longitudinally polarised muons by longitudinally polarised protons has been measured in the range 0.01<×<0.7. The spin dependent structure function g 1 ( x ) for the proton has been determined and, combining the data with earlier SLAC measurements, its integral over x found to be 0.126±0.010(stat.)±0.015(syst.), in disagreement with the Ellis-Jaffe sum rule. Assuming the validity of the Biorken sum rule, this result implies a significant negative value for the integral of g 1 for the neutron. These integrals lead to the conclusion, in the naïve quark parton model, that the total quark spin constitutes a rather small fraction of the spin of the nucleon. Results are also presented on the asymmetries in inclusive hadron production which are consistent with the above picture.

Measurements of $\alpha^- s$ in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation at $\sqrt{s}=53$.3-{GeV} and 59.5-{GeV}

We studied the energy-energy correlation (EEC) and its asymmetry (AEEC) using e + e − hadronic annihilation events obtained at √ s =53.3 GeV and 59.5 GeV with the TOPAZ detector at the TRISTAN collider. We used a Monte Carlo simulation combined with the QCD matrix elements by Gottschalk and Shatz and the Lund string fragmentation model. By comparing the experimental data with simulated events, we determined the strong coupling constant α s at both energies. The results are 0.129±0.007 (stat) ±0.010 (syst) at √ s =53.3 GeV and 0.122±0.008 (stat) ±0.010 (syst) at 59.5 GeV.

Evidence for New States Produced in the Central Region in the Reaction $p p \to p$(f) ($\pi^+ \pi^- \pi^+ \pi^-$) $p(s$) at 300-{GeV}/$c$

Inspire Record 280165 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29783

The reaction pp→p f ( π + π − π + π − )p s , where the π + π − π + π − system is centrally produced, has been studied at 300 GeV/ c in an experiment designed to search for gluonic states. The π + π − π + π − mass spectrum shows evidence for the f 1 (1285) with a mass of 1281±1 MeV and a width of 31±5 MeV. In addition there is evidence for two new enhancements at masses of 1449±4 and 1901±13 MeV with widths of 78±18 and 312±61 MeV respectively. An analysis of the state at 1.45 GeV indicates that it is not a π + π − π + π − decay mode of the f 1 (1420) or ι η(1440) .
