Data are presented for the left-right asymmetry in inclusive production of π+, π−, and p with proton beams (polarized normal to the scattering plane) of 13.3 and 18.5 GeV/c incident on a LH2 target. At both energies the asymmetry in π+ production grows steadily to about 25% near the kinematic limit, whereas the π− and p asymmetries are consistent with zero over the measured range of pt, 1.1–2.2 GeV/c.

Test of spin dependence in charm-quark fragmentation to D*.

We have measured the polarization of D*, the energy dependence of the polarization, and the spin-density matrix of D* in e+e− annihilation at a center-of-mass energy of 29 GeV using the Time Projection Chamber detector at the SLAC storage ring PEP. In 147 pb−1 of data we see no strong evidence for polarization, alignment, or final-state interactions in this fragmentation process.

Inclusive quasielastic spin observables for p (polarized) + H-2, C-12 at 500-MeV

Phys.Lett.B 264 (1991) 21-25, 1991.
Inspire Record 323310 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29384

Analyzing powers ( A y ) and spin-rotation-depolarization parameters ( D SS , D SL , D LS , D LL , D NN ) were determined for 500 MeV p + 2 H and p + 12 C inclusive quasielastic scattering at 10°, 15°, and 20° laboratory scattering angles. The p + 2 H data are consistent with the isospin-average of the proton-proton and proton-neutron scattering observables; the p + 12 C data are not. A relativistic plane wave impulse approximation calculation leads to better agreement with the p + 12 C spin-observables.

Transverse longitudinal asymmetry in the quasielastic He-3 ---> e ---> e-prime) reaction

Phys.Rev.Lett. 74 (1995) 654-657, 1995.
Inspire Record 386633 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19655

The transverse-longitudinal asymmetry ATL′ in He→3(e→, e′) quasielastic scattering at momentum transfer Q2=0.14 (GeV/c)2 has been measured to be 1.52 ± 0.55(stat) ± 0.15(syst)%. The plane wave impulse approximation (PWIA) prediction for this measurement ranges from 2.1% to 2.9%, where the variation is due to uncertainty in the initial state wave function, nucleon form factors, and off-shell prescription. The data may suggest a suppression with respect to the PWIA, which has also been observed for the unpolarized longitudinal response function.

Measurements of the tau polarization in Z0 decays

The DELPHI collaboration Abreu, P. ; Adam, W. ; Adye, T. ; et al.
Z.Phys.C 67 (1995) 183-202, 1995.
Inspire Record 393793 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47961

A sample of Z0→τ+τ− events observed in the DELPHI detector at LEP in 1991 and 1992 is analysed to measure the τ polarisation in the exclusive decay channels\(ev\bar v\),\(\mu v\bar v\), πν, ρν and a1ν. The τ polarisation is also measured with an inclusive hadronic analysis which benefits from a higher efficiency and a better systematic precision than the use of the exclusive decay modes. The results have been combined with those published on the 1990 data. A measurement of the τ polarisation as a function of production angle yields the values for the mean τ polarisation 〈P〉τ=−0.148±0.022 and for the Z0 polarisationPZ=−0.136±0.027. These results are used to determine the ratio of vector to axial-vector effective couplings for taus\(\bar v_\tau/\bar a_\tau= 0.074 \pm 0.011\), and for electrons\(\bar v_e /\bar a_e= 0.068 \pm 0.014\), compatible with e-τ universality. With the assumption of lepton universality, the ratio of vector to axial-vector effective couplings for leptons\(\bar v_l /\bar a_l= 0.072 \pm 0.008\) is obtained, implying a value of the effective weak mixing angle sin2θefflept=0.2320±0.0021.

Measurement of elastic omega photoproduction at HERA.

The reaction $\gamma p \rightarrow \omega p$ $(\omega \rightarrow \pi~+\pi~-\pi~0$ and $\pi~0\rightarrow\gamma\gamma)$ has been studied in $ep$ interactions using the \mbox{ZEUS} detector at photon-proton centre-of-mass energies between $70$ and $90\uni{GeV}$ and $|t| < 0.6\uni{GeV}~2$, where $t$ is the squared four momentum transferred at the proton vertex. The elastic \ome photoproduction cross section has been measured to be $\sigma_{\gamma p\rightarrow \omega p} = 1.21\pm 0.12\pm 0.23 \mu\mbox{b}$. The differential cross section $d\sigma_{\gamma p\rightarrow \omega p} /d|t|$ has an exponential shape $\mbox{e}~{-b |t|}$ with a slope $b = 10.0\pm 1.2\pm 1.3\uni{GeV}~{-2}$. The angular distributions of the decay pions are consistent with {\it s}-channel helicity conservation. When compared to low energy data, the features of $\omega$ photoproduction as measured at HERA energies are in agreement with those of a soft diffractive process. Previous measurements of the $\rho~0$ and $\phi$ photoproduction cross sections at HERA show a similar behaviour.

Measurement of the vector analyzing power in elastic electron proton scattering as a probe of double photon exchange amplitudes.

Phys.Rev.C 63 (2001) 064001, 2001.
Inspire Record 524209 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.31444

We report the first measurement of the vector analyzing power in inclusive transversely polarized elastic electron-proton scattering at Q^2 = 0.1 (GeV/c)^2 and large scattering angles. This quantity should vanish in the single virtual photon exchange, plane wave impulse approximation for this reaction, and can therefore provide information on double photon exchange amplitudes for electromagnetic interactions with hadronic systems. We find a non-zero value of A=-15.4+/-5.4 ppm. No calculations of this observable for nuclei other than spin 0 have been carried out in these kinematics, and the calculation using the spin orbit interaction from a charged point nucleus of spin 0 cannot describe these data.

We have measured the polarization of J/Psi and Psi(2S) mesons produced in p\bar{p} collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV, using data collected at CDF during 1992-95. The polarization of promptly produced J/Psi [Psi(2S)] mesons is isolated from those produced in B-hadron decay, and measured over the kinematic range 4[5.5] < P_T < 20 GeV/c and |y| < 0.6. For P_T \gessim 12 GeV/c we do not observe significant polarization in the prompt component.

Observation of polarization in bottomonium production at s**(1/2) = 38.8-GeV

Inspire Record 536629 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19423

We present a measurement of the polarization observed for bottomonium states produced in p-Cu collisions at sqrt(s)=38.8 GeV. The angular distribution of the decay dimuons of the Upsilon(1S) state show no polarization at small xF and pT but significant positive transverse production polarization for either pT > 1.8 GeV/c or for xF > 0.35. The Upsilon(2S+3S) unresolved states show a large transverse production polarization at all values of xF and pT measured. These observations are compared with an NRQCD calculation that predicts a transverse polarization in bottomonium production arising from quark-antiquark fusion and gluon-gluon fusion diagrams.
