Charge exchange photoproduction of the a2- (1320) in association with Delta++ at 19.3-GeV/c

We examine the negative 3π final state produced in association with Δ++(1232) in the reaction γp→Δ++π+π−π− at an incident photon energy of 19.3 GeV. The most prominent enhancement in the 3π spectrum occurs at a mass and with a width consistent with the parameters of the a2(1320). This identification is confirmed by the various angular distributions. The a2 production cross section, corrected for efficiencies and alternate a2 decay modes, is 0.45±0.05 μb.

Measurement of the tensor analyzing power T(20) in inclusive deuteron breakup at 9-GeV/c on hydrogen and carbon

The tensor analyzing power T 20 in inclusive deuteron breakup at 9 GeV/c and 0° on hydrogen and carbon targets up to internal momenta k of the proton in the deuteron of ∼ 1 GeV/c has been measured. The analyzing power remains negative up to the highest measured values of k , and is in definite disagreement with predictions from several theoretical models. A systematic difference between T 20 for deuteron breakup on hydrogen and carbon is observed.

Charged pion backward production in 15-GeV - 65-GeV proton nucleus collisions

The differential cross sections of π − and π + meson production at a laboratory angle of 159° in collisions of 15–65 GeV protons with Be, C, Al, Ti, Mo and W targets are measured. The data are presented in the tables for Lorentz-invariant cross sections over the momentum range of pions from 0.25 to 0.95 GeV/ c . The slopes (“temperatures”) of a cumulative part of the pion spectra (the pion kinetic energy is >0.35 GeV) increase by 15–20% with changing A from 9 up to 184. Some discrepancy in the E -dependence of the temperature of the cumulative pion spectra is observed in the high-energy region studied, namely the temperature at 15–65 GeV, taking its slow rise over this range into account, contradicts that at 400 GeV.

In the experiments at the SPHINX facility in the 70 GeV proton beam of the IHEP accelerator the diffractive production reactionsp+N→[Σ(1385)0K+] +N andp+N→[Σ(1385)0K+]+N+ (neutral particles) were studied. In the effective mass spectra of the [Σ(1385)0K+] system in these processes there were no signals from the anomalously narrow baryon stateNϕ (1960) which had been observed earlier in the measurement at the BIS-2 setup.

The tensor analyzing power T 20 for the p ( d , p d) and p ( d , p ) pn reactions θ cm p = 180° have been measured at incident deuteron momenta from 3.5 to 6.5 GeV/ c . For both reactions T 20 remains negative up to internal momentum k ⋍ 0.85 GeV/ c and show a rich structure beyond the region where T 20 is expected to be determined by the S - and D -states of the deuteron. The T 20 data for deuteron breakup without pion production, close to the backward elastic kinematics, were obtained simultaneously with the elastic data.
