Results are presented on π + p and K + p elastic scattering at 250 GeV/ c , the highest momentum so far reached for positive meson beams. The experiment (NA22) was performed with the european hybrid spectrometer. The π + p elastic cross section stays constant with energy while the K + p cross section increases.

ERRORS IN ELASTIC CROSS SECTIONS INCLUDE SYSTEMATIC ERRORS.
We present inclusive ¶ and K *0 (892) cross sections and Feynman x -spectra in K + p collisions at 250 GeV/ c . In the K + fragmentation region, x > 0.2, the ratio of ¶ to K *0 (892) is used to estimate the strangeness suppression factor λ , with the result γ =0.17 ± 0.02 (stat ± 0.01 (syst). We see no evidence for an energy dependence of λ in the CM energy range 7.8 ≤ s ≤21.7 GeV.

Cross sections and charged multiplicity distributions for π+p,K+p andpp interactions at 250 GeV/c are presented and compared to each other as well as to earlier (for π+p andK+p lower energy) data. Consistently, the meson-proton (M+p) data have narrower multiplicity distributions and higher average multiplicity thanpp data. Up to our energy, generalized KNO functions describe the energy dependence of the shape of the multiplity distribution with one parameter forM+p and one forpp collisions. If interpreted in terms of negative binomials, the parameter 1/k tends to be slightly lower forM+p than forpp data. For both types of hadron-hadron collision, 1/k is larger than fore+e− andlp collisions.

The cross section of the quasi-elastic reactions\(\bar v_\mup \to \mu ^ +\Lambda (\Sigma ^0 )\) in the energy range 5–100 GeV is determined from Fermilab 15′ bubble chamber antineutrino data. TheQ2 analysis of quasi-elastic Λ events yieldsMA=1.0±0.3 GeV/c2 for the axial mass value. With zero µΛK0 events observed, the 90% confidence level upper limit\(\sigma (\bar v_\mup \to \mu ^ +\Lambda {\rm K}^0 )< 2.0 \cdot 10^{ - 40} cm^2 \) is obtained. At the same time, we found that the cross section of reaction\(\bar v_\mup \to \mu ^ +\Lambda {\rm K}^0+ m\pi ^0 \) is equal to\(\left( {3.9\begin{array}{*{20}c}{ + 1.6}\\{ - 1.3}\\ \end{array} } \right) \cdot 10^{ - 40} cm^2 \).

We present data on inclusive production ofK+ andKS0 mesons in a 70 GeV/cK+p experiment performed in BEBC filled withH2. Cross sections and inclusive Feynman-x distributions for identifiedK+'s andKS0's are presented. The spectra of “prompt” non-diffractiveKS0 are determined by subtraction of the decay products of prominent resonances and diffractive contributions. These data, contrary to the overall inclusive spectra, allow to differentiate between some fragmentation models for soft hadron-hadron interactions.

Inclusive photoproduction of ϕ,K*0(890),\(\bar K*^0 \) andK*0(1420),\(\bar K*^0 \) has been studied in γp collisions with photons of energy 20 to 70 GeV and in the range 0.1≦xF≦0.95 [0.4≦xF≦0.8 for the\(\mathop K\limits^{( - )} *\)(1420)],xF being the Feynman variable of the vector/tensor meson. The cross-sections for these processes, averaged over the photon energy range and integrated overxF are given. The inclusive ϕ production in the forward direction can be described quantitatively by a triple-Regge model calculation. The remaining ϕ production and the totalK*0(890) and\(\bar K*^0 \) production are consistent with a quark fusion picture.
