Exotic exchange processes observed in K − p and π − p scattering in the neighbourhoood of 4 GeV/ c are analysed in terms of standard models. Some new data on π − p induced processes are presented and used in the analysis. Regge-Regge cut predictions are found to be smaller than the data up to these energies. Baryonium exchange models are shown to be indistindistinguishable from Regge cut models as regards their phenomenological predictions. The double scattering quark model of Białas and Zalewski is compatible with data on the exotic exchange production of Σ and Y ∗ (1385), but fails for Ξ and Ξ ∗ (1530) production. Modifications of this model are discussed.

FORWARD (SMALL -T) CROSS SECTIONS. THE K- P CROSS SECTIONS ARE COMPUTED FROM THE ACNO DATA AT 4.2 GEV/C, M. MAZZUCATO ET AL., NP B178, 1 (1981).
BACKWARD (SMALL -U) CROSS SECTIONS.
The reactions K − p → Ξ 0 − (1320) K 0 + , Ξ − (1320) K + (890), Ξ 0 − (1530) K 0 − and Ξ 0 − (1530) K 0 + (890) are studied at 4.2 GeV/ c incident momentum. The data come from a high-statistics bubble chamber experiment with a sensitivity of ∼ 133 events/ μ b. Total anddifferential cross sections are presented. The results are compared to the SU(3)-related processes K + p → pK + and K + p → pK + (890) in the backward hemisphere. In the forward hemisphere “forbidden” peaks are observed and current ideas about them are discussed.
FULLY CORRECTED FOR ALL CUTS AND UNSEEN DECAY MODES.
TOTAL, FORWARD AND BACKWARD CROSS SECTIONS. FULLY CORRECTED FOR CUTS, K0 AND LAMBDA UNSEEN DECAY MODES AND OTHER K*(892) AND XI(1530P13) DECAYS. IN 3-BODY FINAL STATES, THETA REFERS TO THE PI-K SYSTEM.

Evidence is presented for production of Ξ* resonances, decaying into Ξπ, Ξ(1530)π, ΛK¯, and ΣK¯, in K−p interactions at 2.87 Gev/c. The data represent final combined results from a 30-events/μb hydrogen exposure and an 18-events/μb exposure in deuterium designed to study Ξ* production in the mass interval 1.46-2.07 GeV/c2. In addition to Ξ(1820) and Ξ(1940), signals have been observed at masses of 1630 MeV/c2 and 1860 MeV/c2 decaying into Ξ−π+ and YK¯, respectively. Reaction cross sections have been measured for all final states containing two visible signs of strangeness, and for the final states ΛK−K+ and Σ0K−K+.

The results on total channel cross-sections obtained in the 2 m HBC exposed to a separated K− beam at the CERN PS are presented here. The total cross-sections for each channel are given at seven incident K− momenta between 1.934 and 2.516 GeV/c.
CORRECTED FOR ALL POSSIBLE V DECAY MODES. STATISTICAL ERRORS ONLY.
A 12 event/μb bubble chamber experiment on K − p interactions at 3.95 GeV/ c yielded 1212 events including systems with strangeness S = −2. Results concerning cascade resonances with masses less than 2000 MeV are reported; in particular a determination of the mass and width of the Ξ o 1530 and an interpretation of the mass region (1700–/) 2000) MeV.

We present the results on total channel cross-sections obtained in the Saclay 180 l HBC exposed to a separated K− beam at Nimrod. The cross-sections for each channel are given at 13 incident K− momenta between 1.26 and 1.84 GeV/c.
