New results on the inclusive and semi-inclusive production of π + mesons and protons in the whole phase space are given for about 2.2 · 10 4 inelastic p p interactions at 22.4 GeV/ c . A method of statistical separation for spectra of particles of the same charge which are produced in CP -symmetrical reactions is discussed in detail. Experimental data are compared with quark-parton model predictions.

NEUTRAL STRANGE PARTICLE PRODUCTION IN PI- P INTERACTIONS AT 16-GEV/C

Balea, E. ; Berceanu, S. ; Coca, C. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 163 (1980) 21-45, 1980.
Inspire Record 157169 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.8077

The production of K S 0 , Λ and Λ in π − p ractions at 16 GeV/ c is investigated. Cross sections for single strange particles are determined, both inclusively and as functions of the charged multiplicity. Some characteristics of the multiplicity distributions are also discussed. Inclusive distributions are studied as a function of the longitudinal and transverse variables of V 0 and the missing mass squared. The average charged multiplicities of the systems recoiling against the Λ and K S 0 are presented.

We present data on\(\bar pn\) and π− n collisions obtained from an exposure of the 30′' FNAL deuterium filled bubble chamber to a mixed\({{\bar p} \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\bar p} {\pi ^ -}}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {\pi ^ -}}\) beam with a momentum of 100 GeV/c. We find that in 17±2% of the collisions with the antiproton there is an interaction on the spectator while for the collisions with π− mesons the corresponding number is 15±2%. The\(\bar pn\) and π− n multiplicity distributions have average charged multiplicities of 6.46±0.07 and 6.53±0.08 respectively. The average multiplicities for both types of interactions are slightly smaller than those for the corresponding reactions on hydrogen by an amount that is the same as observed at other energies. As an estimate of\(\bar pn\) annihilation we have calculated the difference\(\sigma _n (\bar pn) - \sigma _n (pn)\) for each prong numbern. We find an average multiplicity of 9±1, a value close to that for\(\bar pp\) annihilation at the same energy. combining our data with lower energy\(\bar pn\) annihilation data, we observe that the average negative multiplicity is systematically larger than that for\(\bar pp\) annihilation similar to the difference between neutron and proton target data with other beam projectiles.

INCLUSIVE K0, LAMBDA0, K*+- (890), AND SIGMA*+- (1385) PRODUCTION IN P P COLLISIONS AT 300-GEV/C

Phys.Rev.D 22 (1980) 573-581, 1980.
Inspire Record 158990 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24150

Inclusive K0K¯0, Λ0, and Λ¯0 cross sections have been determined using a 292-event/mb exposure of the hydrogen-filled 15-foot bubble chamber at Fermilab. From the invariant-mass distributions of V0π± pairs we find that σ(K*±(890))=4.4±1.4 mb, σ(Σ*±(1385))=0.54±0.40 mb, and σ(Σ¯*±(1385))=0.45±0.34 mb. It is estimated that 0.32 ± 0.11 of K0K¯0's, 0.21 ± 0.16 of Λ's, and 0.96 ± 0.75 of Λ¯'s originate from decays of K*(890) and Σ*(1385), respectively.

250-{GeV}/$c \pi^- p$ Multiplicity Distributions and the Two Component Model

Phys.Rev.D 23 (1981) 20, 1981.
Inspire Record 144125 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24140

The charged-particle multiplicity distribution from 250-GeV/c π−p interactions in the Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber is presented. The corrections to the raw data are described. Fits to these data along with other high-energy bubble-chamber data show that cluster models with two components—a low-multiplicity, diffractive component and a high-multiplicity, nondiffractive component—describe the data fairly well. The charged multiplicity of each cluster is found to be ∼2, while the number of clusters for each component grows linearly with ln(s). The multiplicity moments are consistent with other experiments. We find 〈nc〉=8.427±0.059, f2cc=8.66±0.11, 〈nc〉D=2.038±0.023. The total inelastic cross section is σI=21.42±0.50 mb.

Rapid Growth of Charged Particle Multiplicity in High-Energy e+ e- Annihilations

The TASSO collaboration Brandelik, R. ; Braunschweig, W. ; Gather, K. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 89 (1980) 418-422, 1980.
Inspire Record 143691 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27273

Hadron production by e + e − annihilation has been studied for c.m. energies W between 13 and 31.6 GeV. As a function of 1n W the charged particle multiplicity grows faster at high energy than at lower energies. This is correlated with a rise in the plateau of the rapidity distribution. The cross section s d σ /d x is found to scale within ±30% for x > 0.2 and 5 ⩽ W ⩽ 31.6 GeV.

Total Cross-Section for Hadron Production by e+ e- Annihilation at PETRA Energies

The JADE collaboration Bartel, W. ; Canzler, T. ; Cords, D. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 88 (1979) 171-176, 1979.
Inspire Record 142874 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27277

The cross section for the process e + e − → multihadrons has been measured at the highest PETRA energies. We measure R (the total cross section in units of the point-like e + e - → μ + μ - cross section) to be 2.9 ± 0.7, 4.0 ± 0.5, 4.6 ± 0.4 and 4.2 ± 0.6 at s of 22, 27.7, 30 and 31.6 GeV, respectively. The observed average multiplicity, together with existing low energy data, indicate a rapid increase in multiplicity with increasing energy.

Total Cross-Section for Hadronic Production by e+ e- Annihilation in the Total Center-Of-Mass Energy Range 1.42-GeV - 3.09-GeV

We report experimental results on the cross section for the reaction e + e − → hadrons as a function of the total c.m. energy in the range W = 1.42–3.09 GeV. The results, combined with those already existing below the charm threshold, clearly indicate a structure for R ( W ) = α ( e + e − → hadrons)/ α ( e + e − → μ + μ − ) in that energy region.
