In a study of the production mechanism of quasi-two-body final states at the five incident π+ momenta 2.95, 3.2, 3.5, 3.75, and 4.08 GeV/c, approximately 40 000 events with four outgoing charged particles were investigated. The cross sections for the processes π+p→N*++ρ, π+p→N*++ω, π+p→N*++η, and π+p→N*++f have been measured as a function of the pion energy. The differential cross sections and the decay density-matrix elements are discussed in terms of one-meson-exchange models [with absorption (OPEA) and with form factor (OPEW)] and Regge models. For the N*++ρ and the N*++ω reactions, the joint-decay matrix elements are calculated. The formation of N*(2850) in the direct channel is also investigated.

The total pair production cross-section of gamma-rays in hydrogen and deuterium

Rawlinson, W.R. ; Tait, N.R.S. ; Thompson, J.C. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 45 (1972) 41-46, 1972.
Inspire Record 75026 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32781

The total electromagnetic cross sections of g-rays in hydrogen and deuterium have been measured over the energy range 265–4215 MeV using a photon tagging system. From these measurements, the total pair production cross sections are obtained, and the results are found to be in good agreement with the predictions of Jost, Luttinger and Slotnick.

Reaction p n ---> p p pi- and n*(1450) production at 5.9 gev/c

Nucl.Phys.B 46 (1972) 21-28, 1972.
Inspire Record 74958 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32847

A search for N ∗ (1450) production has been made among the 904 selected examples of the reaction pd → pp π − (p sp ) obtained in a bubble chamber exposure at 5.9 GeV/ c incident momentum. The cross section for the reaction pn → pp π − is found to be 1.4 ± 0.1 mb. The peripheral data are in good agreement with the predictions of a single-pion exchange model. Approximately 8% of the events can be attributed to N ∗ (1450) production by some other mechanism.

As a partial result of an analysis of K + d interactions at 3 GeV/ c produced in the 81 cm Saclay bubble chamber, we present data on K + differential cross sections for the following reactions: K + d → K + d, K + d → K + pn, K + d → K 0 pp . A set of parameters describing the K + n elastic scattering has been obtained from a simulataneous fit, based on the Glauber model. to the three experimental differential cross sections and to the K + d total cross section, giving α n = 1.7 ± 0.5 GeV −2 for the slope α n of the differential cross section, and ρ n = −0.16 ± 0.3 for the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the forward scattering amplitude. The D-wave function of the deuteron has been found to give a non-negligible contribution to the coherent reaction.

Production of the k- pi+ pi- n final state in k- d interactions at 5.5 gev/c

Davis, R. ; Ammar, R. ; Kropac, W. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 44 (1972) 45-82, 1972.
Inspire Record 75079 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32866

The reaction K − d → K − π + π − n p s was studied in a bubble chamber experiment. The cross section was measured to be 1.3 ± 0.2 mb. The final state is dominated by K ∗0 (890) , K ∗0 (1420) and Δ − (1236) production. Partial cross sections, differential cross sections and decay angular distributions of the K ∗0 (890) δ − (1236) final state were found to give good agreement with the predictions of Białas and Zalewski obtained from the quark model. The final state K − π + Δ − (1236) is analyzed by use of the Van Hove plot.

Photoproduction of k+ lambda0 and k+ sigma0 from hydrogen at constant momentum transfer t between 1.05 and 2.2 gev

For the reaction γ p → K + Λ 0 the differential cross section has been measured at t = −0.147 GeV 2 ( θ C.M. = 26.5 ± 3.5°) and photoenergies between 1.05 and 2.2 GeV and for the reaction γ p→K + Σ 0 at ≈−0.17 GeV 2 ( θ C.M. = 28±3.5°) and photoenergies between 1.3 and 2.2 GeV. For this four momentum transfer the differential cross section of K + Λ 0 photoproduction has a surprising steep increase above threshold and stays nearly constant up to 2.2 GeV. The K + Σ 0 cross section increases from 1.3 to 1.56 GeV and goes down gradually at higher energies.

The total photon deuteron hadronic cross-section in the energy range 0.265-4.215 gev

The total cross section for photoproduction of hadrons on the deutron, σ T d , has been measured for photon energies in the range 0.265–40215 GeV. From this, using results for the photon total cross section, obtained previously with the same apparatus, the neutron total cross section has been determined in the resonance region. The resonant structure is found to be quite different from that for the proton. Thereafter the neutron cross section falls off steadily with energy, and the values obtained are consistently lower than those for the proton. Forward scattering amplitudes have been evaluated for the deuteron.

Study of lambda production in 10-GeV/c K- p interactions

Lambda production is studied in K − p interactions at 10.1 GeV/ c , where the dominant reaction is K − p → Λ + pions. General characteristics such as the distributions of the double differential cross section in the lab system, of the variable x = p L ∗ p max ∗ , of p ⊥ 2 and of the missing mass to the lambda are presented. Total cross sections for Λ production and for the various channels are given. Differential cross sections d σ d t , d σ d t′ and d σ d u′ are presented. Forward and backward peaks are observed in the d σ d t′ and d σ d u′ distributions, respectively. It is found that the exponential slope of these distributions decreases with increasing missing mass to the lambda and, for d σ d t′ , also for increasing multiplicity in the final state. The polarization of the lambdas is studied as a function of multiplicity, p L ∗ , (Λπ ± ) effective mass, t ′ and u ′. The forward lambdas show

Measurements have been made of the polarization of the recoil proton in the process γ p → π o p for photon energies of 850 - 1250 MeV and centre-of-mass angles of 80° - 125°. The results, which are to a typical accuracy of ±0.09, show a marked disagreement with previous phenomenological analyses above 1000 MeV.

Interference between (p,f0 ...) and (rho0,b0,...) exchanges in pion diffraction dissociation at 16 gev/c

It is found in the reactions π ± p →( π ± π + π − )p, believed to be dominated by diffraction dissociation, that the d σ d t′ distributions show a “cross-over” effect at t ′ ≈ 0.15, similar to the effect observed in elastic scattering. This gives evidence for the interference of ( ϱ 0 , B 0 ,…)-exchanges with ( P , f 0 , …) -exchanges in pion diffraction dissociation reactions. No such evidence is found for baryon dissociation, π ± p → π ± (p π + π − ), at the same energy.
