Compton-scattering cross sections from hydrogen (γp→γp) and from deuterium have been measured at four-momentum transfer t in the range 0.014<~−t<~0.17 GeV2 and photon energies of 8 and 16 GeV. Fits to our proton data of the form dσdt=AeBt give B≈7.8 GeV−2 and an intercept A which is in agreement with the optical point. Both coherent scattering from deuterons and incoherent scattering from neutrons and protons are seen from deuterium. A small difference between the neutron and proton cross sections is seen, indicating the presence of about a 3% isovector t-channel exchange amplitude in addition to the predominant isoscalar amplitude. The vector-dominance model predicts lower cross sections (by at least 20%) for both the hydrogen and deuterium cases.

Resonance production in k- neutron interactions at k- momenta of 1.45 and 1.65 gev/c

Colley, D.C. ; Cox, G.F. ; Eastwood, D. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 31 (1971) 61-85, 1971.
Inspire Record 68588 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33257

Results are reported on K − -neutron interactions at c.m. energies near 2 GeV. The interactions are dominated by strong production of hyperon resonances, particularly Σ(1385), Λ(1405) and Λ(1520). Production cross sections and angular distributions are given for the Σ(1385), Λ(1405) and Λ(1520) and branching fractions to decay modes observed in the experiment are given for Σ(1385) and Λ(1520). The strong energy dependence of some features of the data suggests that s -channel effects are dominant.

K- p elastic scattering at 10-GeV/c

Nucl.Phys.B 29 (1971) 398-404, 1971.
Inspire Record 68635 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33567

Results are presented on elastic scattering of 10.1 GeV/ c K − mesons on protons, based on a sample of 16 261 kinematically-fitted bubble-chamber events. The differential cross section is given over the | t |- range of 0.06 to 2.5 GeV 2 and is fitted with the expressions a e bt , A e Bt + Ct 2 and ( P e Qt + Re St ) over various intervals of t . The results are compared with those of other experiments at nearby energies. Upper limits of | α | < 0.28 and σ B < 0.4 μ b (both at a 90% confidence level) are given for the ratio of real to imaginary part of the forward-scattering amplitude and the backward-elastic-scattering cross section, respectively.

Coherent k- d interactions at 12.6 gev/c

Inspire Record 68705 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33587

We report on coherent interactions in a 2.5 event/μb K − d exposure. The predominant channel studied is K − d → K − π + gp − d (415 events). We find strong Q- and L-production in the (K ππ ) system. The production mechanism determines I = 1 2 for both enhancements and a spin-parity in the series 0 − , 1 + ,2 − … . A spin-parity analysis shows the Q to be a 1 + object, while the L is 1 + or 2 − , although a higher spin cannot be excluded. The cross sections for Q and L production and other final states are presented.

Baryon exchange in the reactions k- n ---> y pi- at 3-GeV/c

Nucl.Phys.B 26 (1971) 557-572, 1971.
Inspire Record 68766 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33717

At 3 GeV/ c , the total and differential cross sections of the reactions K − n → Y π − have been determined for nine S = −1 baryonic states. Backward peaks associated with a dip near u = −0.2 are observed in many cases. They have been interpreted, for the isospin-zero Y-states, in terms of a proton-exchange mechanism. The backward peaks in the reactions K − n → Λπ − and K − n → Σ o π − have been more quantitatively related to the backward π N → N π differential cross sections at the same energy. This comparison leads to the conclusion, that the first reaction is dominated by nucleon exchange, whereas the second one requires a more complex exchange mechanism.

The polarization parameter for K + p elastic scattering has been measured at 1.60, 1.80, 2.11 and 3.31 GeV/ c incident momenta over the entire angular range with an emphasis on the backward region. The results in the extreme backward region appear to be small and consistent with zero.

Isospin invariance in the reaction n p ---> pi0 d

Phys.Lett.B 35 (1971) 83-86, 1971.
Inspire Record 69283 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.28477

A measurement of the differential cross section for the reaction n + p → d + π° has been made using a neutron beam with kinetic energies up to 720 MeV. The angle and momentum of the deuterons were measured using an analyzing magnet and wire spark chambers with a magnetostrictive readout. The photons from the decaying π° were not detected. The neutron energy was calculated from the measured deuteron angle and momentum. The cross sections are compared to those for the reaction π + + d ⇆ p + p as a test of isotopic spin invariance in strong interactions. The symmetry of the cross sections about 90° is also investigated, and an upper limit of about 1% is placed on the real part of the ratio of isospin-violating to isospin-conserving amplitudes.
