An experiment designed to study the π−p total neutral cross section and its breakdown into several channels has been performed at eleven incident pion momenta ranging from 654 to 1247 MeV/c. Angular distributions for the charge exchange π0 and for η0 production are given in terms of Legendre-polynomial expansion coefficients. Forward and backward differential cross sections are presented for the charge-exchange channel and comparisons with recent dispersion-relation predictions for the forward cross section are made.

Approximately 700 events of the reaction K − d → K − π − pp s produced by 5.5 GeV/ c kaons were used to measure the cross section for Kπ elastic scattering in the T = 3 2 state by a Chew-Low extrapolation. The cross section does not exceed 2.1 mb and has no structure for Kπ masses from threshold up to 2.0 GeV.
Chew-Low extrapolation is used for evaluation of the K- P elastic cross section.
A systematic search for exotic states produced in K − d interactions at 3 GeV/ c is reported. From the analysis of the mass spectra of strange mesons, non-strange mesons, hyperons with S = −1 and S = −2, upper limits for the production cross sections of exotic resonances may be placed at one or two orders of magnitude smaller than for the production of normal resonances of same strangeness and baryon number.

The differential cross sections for the γ + n → π O + n reaction have been measured at the photon energies of 500–900 MeV. The ratios, R oo = [ d δ d Ω(γ n → π o n ) ] [ d δ d Ω(γ p → π o p ) ] , have been obtained at the c.m. pion angles of 60 O , 90 O , 105 O , 120 O , and 140 O .

We have measured the e + e − → ø reaction by its K + K − decay mode. Using our previous results on K O K O and the 3π decay mode of the ø mesons, we compute Γ ø → e + e − and then compare the whole Orsay results to theoretical predictions.

EXCITATION OF K+ K- CHANNEL MEASURED AROUND PHI RESONANCE AT 13 ENERGIES.
The reactions γA→π±A* have been studied at four-momentum transfers −t<~0.5 GeV2 for seven elements ranging from hydrogen to lead. Exclusion-principle suppression is clearly visible at small-momentum transfer. Neither the A dependence nor the energy dependence of the cross sections agrees with the predictions of the vector-dominance model. The ratio of π−π+ production requires equal spatial distributions for the protons and neutrons in nuclei. Some K+ data are also presented.

Cross sections for the reactions γp→K+Λ and γp→K+Σ0 have been measured at squared four-momentum transfer (−t) from 0.005 to 2 GeV2, at photon energies 5, 8, 11, and 16 GeV. For −t>0.2 GeV2 each of the K+ cross sections is about ⅓ of the π+n photoproduction cross section, having nearly the same energy and momentum-transfer dependence. The K+ cross sections fall off at small |t|, however, in contrast to the sharp forward spike seen in π+n; this leads to a disagreement with an SU(3) prediction for −t<0.1 GeV2. The ratio of K+Σ0 to K+Λ cross sections is typically between 0.5 and 1.0.

Elastic scattering and single-pion production in pp collisions at 6.92 BeVc were studied in the BNL 80-in. hydrogen bubble chamber. Partial cross sections for the different final states are given. The reaction pp→nN1238*(pπ+) with σ=1.9±0.3 mb is analyzed and is in agreement with the modified one-pion-exchange model. Single-pion production can be explained as due mainly to two channels: (a) pp→N1238*(pπ+)n, and (b) pp→p(nπ+) or pp→p(pπ0), where the (nπ+) and (pπ0) pairs are in an I=12 state.

Elastic scattering of p¯ on p has been studied for cosθc.m. between -0.88 and -1.0 and Plab(p¯) between 0.70 and 2.16 GeV/c. The momentum dependence of the cross section shows a sharp dip at 0.9 GeV/c and a broad peaking around 1.4 GeV/c. The possibility of the peak resulting from direct formation of boson resonances has been studied. Alternatively, a diffraction model agrees qualitatively with our data and other elastic data at different angles.

We have measured differential cross sections of γ + p → p + η 0 at several energies. The angular distributions show that S 11 production is predominant in the energy range investigated and that the other resonant terms seen in π-production of η are absent or very low. Finally, experimental data are theoretically interpreted and the S 11 parameters deduced.
