Measurements of the invariant cross sections for the reaction p(400 GeV)+(Li6, Be,C,Al,Cu,Ta)→(d, t, He3, He4)+X at laboratory angles of 70, 90, 118, 137, and 160° are reported. Comparisons are made using several scaling variables. NUCLEAR REACTIONS Inclusive cross section; 400 GeV incident protons; Li6, Be, C, Al, Cu, Ta targets; production of d, t, He3, He4; Lab angles 70°, 90°, 118°, 137°, and 160°.

The measurement of invariant cross sections for the production of protons by 400 GeV protons from a variety of nuclear targets is described. Results are given for Li6, Be, C, A1, Cu, and Ta at 70°, 90°, 118°, 137° and 160° for detected protons from 0.4 to 1.4 GeV/c. Some angular distributions are given over a wider selection of angles. Comparisons are made with observed experimental results at other energies. NUCLEAR REACTIONS Inclusive cross section, 400 GeV, Li6, Be, C, A1, Cu, and Ta.

The cross sections for π ± , K ± , p, and p production in pp collisions have been measured at transverse momenta from 0.48 up to 2.21 GeV/ c at 70 GeV. The data are compared with results obtained at lower and higher proton energies and also with the quantum chromodynamics parton model (QPM) calculations. Common behaviour of the cross sections of the form g(p ⊥ )⨍(x ⊥ ) in the energy range above 200 GeV does not take place at lower energies. Qualitatively QPM fits the data and the best agreement is for π + / π − and K + / π + ratios.
