We present a study of the inclusive η production based on 300 000 hadronic Z 0 decays. The measured inclusive momentum distribution can be reproduced by parton shower Monte Carlo programs and also by an analytical QCD calculation. Comparing our results with low energy e + e − data, we find that QCD describes both the shape and the energy evolution of the η spectrum. The comparison of η production rates in quark- and gluon-enriched jet samples does not show statistically significant evidence for more abundant production of η mesons in gluon fragmentation.

We present a measurement of the cross section for production of isolated prompt photons in p¯p collisions at √s =1.8 TeV. The cross section, measured as a function of transverse momentum (PT), agrees qualitatively with QCD calculations but has a steeper slope at low PT.

Investigation of inclusive production of K0 and K*0 (892) mesons in K+ A interaction at 11.2-GeV

Inspire Record 348109 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.14531

Inclusive production ofK0 andK* (892)0 mesons inK+A-interactions (A=Be, Cu, Pb) at the energy 11.2 GeV has been investigated to study hadronisation of the leading\(\bar s\)-quark; the results are presented. Double differential cross sections d2σ/dxfdpt2 were measured in the region of incident particle fragmentation (0.4≦xf≦1,pt≦0.5 GeV/c). The experimental data obtained were analysed on the basis of the Lund model FRITIOF and a quark-gluon model that takes into account colour screening and hadron formation length effects. The experimental data confirm the picture of hadronisation of the leading\(\bar s\)-quark developed in the latter model.

Comparison of photon and hadron induced production of rho0 mesons in the energy range of 65-GeV to 175-GeV

The inclusive production of ρ0 mesons was measured in γp andh±p collisions at beam energies of 65 GeV≦Eγ≦175 GeV andEh=80, 140 GeV, respectively, whereh is π orK. Cross sections were determined for all beams and energies as functions ofxF (−0.1≦xF≦1.0),pT (0≦pT≦3.5 GeV/c) and the polar decay angle of the ρ0 by fitting the ρ0 signal in π+π- mass distributions. The ρ0 line shape is found to be distorted from a pure Breit-Wigner distribution throughout most of thexF−pT plane for both photon and hadron beams and a simple explanation is suggested. Throughout the paper emphasis is put on the comparison of photon and hadron beam data. The comparison of cross sections of γp andhp data provides a measure of the Vector Meson Dominance factor throughout thexF−pT range of the ρ0. The ρ0 production at lowpT can be described for both photon and hadron beams by a triple regge model at largexF. Similarly central production is well described by the quark-antiquark fusion model. At largepT there is an excess of ρ0 photoproduction which is consistent with the expected onset of pointlike photon interactions.

Study of electron pair production below the Z mass at the CERN anti-p p collider

The UA2 collaboration Alitti, J. ; Ambrosini, G. ; Ansari, R. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 275 (1992) 202-208, 1992.
Inspire Record 322265 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27115

Results on the cross section for the production of electron pairs in p p collisions at √ s = 630 GeV are presented. The measured value is σ = 405 ± 51 (syst.) ± 84 (syst.) pb, in the invariant mass interval 10 < m < 70 GeV. The results are compared to recent theoretical calculations which include O( α s 2 ) QCD contributions. The comparison of these data with those of lower energy experiments show approximate scaling as a function of the variable √τ = m √s .

A Study of K0(s) production in Z0 decays

Phys.Lett.B 264 (1991) 467-475, 1991.
Inspire Record 316151 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29375

The production of K 0 mesons in e + e − interactions at center of mass energies in the region of the Z 0 mass has been investigated with the OPAL detector at LEP. The rate is found to be 2.10±0.02±0.14 K 0 , Z 0 per hadronic event. The predictions from the JETSET and HERWIG generators agree very well with both the rate and the scale invariant cross section (1/σ had β) (dσ/d x E ) for K 0 production. Comparisons of the inclusive momentum spectrum with predictions of an analytical QCD formula and with data from lower center of mass energies are presented.

Higher twist effects in the reaction pi- N ---> mu+ mu- X at 253-GeV/c

The distributions of quarks in the pion and nucleon are extracted from measurements of the reaction π−N→μ+μ−X at 253 GeV/c in a naive Drell-Yan analysis, as well as QCD-corrected analyses at leading-log and next-to-leading-log order. As xπ→1 the pion structure function shows a term that varies as 1mμμ4, which we interpret as a higher-twist effect. Additionally, the angular distribution of the μ+ in the muon-pair rest frame tends towards sin2θ as xπ→1 and as mμμ→0 in a manner consistent with higher-twist effects. When the strongly mass-dependent higher-twist effects are included as part of the pion structure function, the nucleon structure function agrees well with leading-twist results from deeply inelastic lepton-hadron scattering. A significant advance of the present work is the extension of the analysis to low masses by the subtraction of the Jψ and ψ′ resonances from the continuum. Our analysis covers the kinematic range 0.4

The inclusive jet cross-section has been measured at the CERN p p Collider ( s = 630 GeV ) as a function of the jet transverse momentum ( p T ) and pseudorapidity ( η ) for p T values up to 180 GeV and for−2< η <2. The results are consistent with leading order QCD calculations, and a lower limit Λ c >825 GeV (95% CL ) is set on the quark compositeness scale Λ c .

A Study of coherence of soft gluons in hadron jets

We study the inclusive momentum distribution of charged particles in multihadronic events produced in e + e − annihilations at E CM ∼ M (Z 0 ). We find agreement with the analytical formulae for gluon production that include the phenomena of soft gluon interference. Using data from CM energies between 14 and 91 GeV, we study the dependence of the inclusive momentum distribution on the centre of momentum energy. We find that the analytical formulae describe the data over the entire energy range. Both the momentum distribution at a fixed energy and the change with energy are described by QCD shower Monte Carlo's which include either coherent gluon branchings or string fragmentation. Simple incoherent models with independent fragmentation fail to reproduce the energy dependence and momentum spectra.
