A study of quasielastic ω photoproduction where the ω was detected in its π0γ decay mode is reported. The recoil proton's angle was detected with a nonmagnetic spectrometer allowing a full reconstruction of the final state. Differential cross sections for 0.1<|t|<1.2 GeV2 are presented, providing a test of the vector-meson dominance model over an extensive energy and momentum transfer range. The shape of the differential cross section agrees with that seen in both elastic γp and πp scattering as expected from this model.

In the tagged-photon beam at Fermilab, differential cross sections were measured for the elastic scattering of photons on a liquid-hydrogen target. The diffractive forward peak was measured for photon energies between 50 and 130 GeV and |t| values between 0.07 and 1.20 (GeV/c)2. The shape of the diffraction peak is similar to that seen in π−p scattering. The magnitude is that predicted by the optical theorem.

We have measured the total and subchannel cross sections for the reaction p¯p→p¯pπ+π− at 49 GeV/c. This reaction is dominated by two production mechanisms, diffraction and meson exchange. In addition, we have measured the total cross section for p¯p→p¯p2π+2π− and compared it to values at other momenta and with the corresponding pp interaction. Within the present statistics, no significant amount of exclusive annihilation is found into two, four, and six charged pions.

We have identified 262 doubly tagged two-photon events. A subset of the data shows an enhancement of 21 events in the inclusive two-photon mass squared distribution between 0.8 and 2.2 GeV 2 . If these events result from spin 2 resonance production then Γ γγ = 9.5 ± 3.9 ± 2.4 keV (statistical and systematic). From another subset of 58 events in which the final state could be classified we determine the two-photon hadron to muon cross section ratio R γγ = 1.1 ± 0.3 ± 0.3.
ELECTRON BEAM ENERGIES OF 3.0 AND 3.6 GEV.
The inclusive γ and π0 momentum spectra from ψ(3100) decay have been measured in e+e− annihilation at SPEAR. When the γ spectrum is compared with that expected from π0 decay, an excess of high-momentum γ's is observed. This excess is compared with that predicted by quantum chromodynamics for the decay of the ψ into a γ and two gluons.

The elastic and topological p¯p cross sections have been measured at 48.9 GeV/c in the Fermilab proportional-wire-chamber-30-in.-bubble-chamber hybrid spectrometer. The elastic cross section is 7.81±0.24 mb and the slope of the elastic differential cross section at t=0 is 13.4±0.8 GeV−2. Further, the moments of the inelastic topological-cross-section distribution are 〈nc〉=5.69±0.03, 〈nc〉D=2.10±0.02, and f2cc=1.67±0.12.

We present measurements of the cross section for inclusive D and K meson production in e + e − annihilation in the center of mass energy range 3.6 to 5.8 GeV. D production accounts for most of the increase in the total cross section for hadron production in e + e − annihilation at energies above 4 GeV.

Dimuon production is studied in 217-GeV/c π−-hydrogen and π−-beryllium collisions with a lead-glass array to detect photons associated with the ψ. The ψ−γ mass spectrum shows a 2.6-standard-deviation excess of events above background at ∼3.5 GeV. This excess, if attributed to the decay χ(∼3.5)→ψγ, implies that 0.70±0.28 of the ψ's are produced via radiative decay of one of the χ states.

Inclusive η photoproduction has been studied at 9.7 GeV, on hydrogen and deuterium targets. A simple, parameter-free ρ0-dominance model adequately fits the forward cross sections, but overestimates the cross section at large momentum transfer.

Inclusive momentum and energy spectra of neutral and charged D-mesons produced in e + e − annihilation at energies near 7 GeV are presented. The slope of the energy spectrum is similar to the charged pion spectrum at the same energy. The inclusive cross section σ(e + e − → D or D + anything) at 7 GeV is 4.8±1.3 nb.
