The angular distribution of π + p elastic scattering has been measured at an incident momentum of 10 GeV/ c . Nearly the whole angular range was covered in one experimental set-up. The pronounced dip at − t = 2.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 , observed at lower momenta, has diminished and is essentially a shoulder at 10 GeV/ c . The other structure at larger momentum transfers are also different in detail from what we observed at 5 GeV/ c . In the 90° c.m. region the differential cross-section is approximately one nb/(GeV/ c ) 2 , which is more than two orders of magnitude lower than at 5 GeV/ c .

New results on the multihadron production by electron and positron beams colliding with a total energy of up to 3 GeV are reported. Disregarding possible kaon final states, the ratio σ mh / σ μμ of the total multihadron cross-section to the point-like cross section for process e + e − → μ + μ − has an average value of 1.58 ± 0.25 in the energy interval 2.6–3.0 GeV. The average charged multiplicity over this energy range is 〈 n c 〉 = 2.9 ± 0.3.

Measurement of the polarization parameter in pi- p backward elastic scattering at 6-GeV/c

Inspire Record 94951 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32420

The polarization parameter in π − p elastic scattering has been measured in the backward angular region at an incident momentum of 6 GeV/ c . The measurements cover the range of four momentum transfer u = 0 to −1 (GeV/ c ) 2 , and were obtained with a high intensity pion beam, a butanol polarized proton target, and arrays of scintillation counter hodoscopes. The polarization is different from zero, in contradiction to the prediction of the naive one trajectory Regge-exchange model. It increases positively with the four-momentum transfer u, reaching a maximum of about 0.4 at u ≈ −0.3 (GeV/c)2. It then decreases and becomes slightly negative beyond u ≈ −0.5 (GeV/c)2. A variety of baryon exchange models are briefly reviewed and none are found to be in complete agreement with all the experimental data.

K+ p elastic scattering between 432 and 939 mev/c and phase shift analysis

Adams, C.J. ; Cox, G.F. ; Davies, J.D. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 66 (1973) 36-77, 1973.
Inspire Record 94900 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32390

Measurements of K + p elastic scattering have been carried out at 13 momenta between 432 MeV/ c and 939 MeV/ c using spark chambers. The data establish unambiguously the constructive interference of the Coulomb and nuclear amplitudes at 432 MeV/ c . The elastic cross section is found to be independent of momentum through the range covered. The phase shifts for S, P, D and F waves are obtained in an energy dependent analysis in which higher waves are held at theoretical values. The initial behaviour ofthe P, D and F amplitudes is quite close to that predicted by the calculation of the peripheral partial waves. Only the P3 and D5 amplitudes become strikingly different with increasing momentum.

Study of the reaction k+ p ---> k*0(890) delta++ from 4.6-16.0 gev/c

Nucl.Phys.B 64 (1973) 58-108, 1973.
Inspire Record 94946 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.6741

A systematic analysis is presented on the reaction K + p → K ∗0 (890) Δ ++ for nine incident momenta between 4.6–16.0 GeV/ c . Cross sections, differential cross sections and vector meson single density matrix elements are given. As a function of energy, little if any change is observed in either the shapes of the differential cross sections or in the values of the density matrix elements. The data are interpreted in terms of current ideas on t -channel exchange mechanisms.

Inclusive photoproduction of $\pi^0$ mesons at 6 GeV

Phys.Lett.B 47 (1973) 377-380, 1973.
Inspire Record 95414 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.45246

An experiment has been performed to study the inclusive photoproduction of π 0 mesons. Photoproduced π 0 's were detected in a hodoscope consisting of 14 lead glass Cerenkov counters. To obtain the cross sections at a photon energy of 6 GeV we used the photon-difference method. Data are presented in terms of the Feynman variable x = q ‖ ∗ (√s/2) and the trnasverse momentum q⊥. We have measured four q ⊥ distributions at x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8. The results dhow that the π 0 rate at small values of q ⊥ is smaller than the π± rate. The data can be fitted smoothly by a form A exp (− Bq ⊥ 2 ) with a value about 3.5 GeV −2 for the slope parameter B .

Study of narrow mesons near their thresholds

Binnie, D.M. ; Camilleri, L. ; Debenham, N.C. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 8 (1973) 2789-2813, 1973.

A novel form of mass spectrometer has been used to measure the masses, widths, and cross sections of the η, ω, X0(958), and φ mesons near their respective thresholds in the reaction π−+p→missingmass+n. The incident momentum is varied in small steps through the threshold while neutrons of a given momentum are detected near zero degrees. The lower limit of the c.m. momentum P* at which measurements have been made ranges from about 50 MeV/c at the φ to about 30 MeV/c at the η. A somewhat low value for the ω mass, 782.3 ± 0.6 MeV, is found. The width of the X0 is < 1.9 MeV (95% confidence level). All four mesons show evidence of S-wave production, with values of σP* of 21.2 ± 1.8, 0.35 ± 0.03, and 0.29 ± 0.06 μb/(MeV/c) for the η, X0, and φ, respectively. A rapid rise in the ω cross section appears to be modified by a final-state interaction. The effect of this rise can probably be seen in some S11 pion-nucleon phase-shift solutions. Evidence is also presented of a sudden drop in the π+π− mass spectrum just above the threshold for the production of a K+K− pair. The paper includes a comprehensive discussion of the method and of the details of the spectrometer.

A STUDY OF THE REACTIONS pi- p ---> K* LAMBDA, K* SIGMA AND K* Y1* (1385) AT 3.93-GeV/c

Nucl.Phys.B 75 (1974) 365-387, 1974.
Inspire Record 80700 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32197

We have investigated the final states K ∗0 (890)Σ, K ∗0 (890)Σ 0 and K ∗0 (890) Y 1 ∗0 (1385) produced in π − p interactions at 3.93 GeV/ c . We present the differential cross sections and spin density matrix elements for the resonances as functions of momentum transfer, as well as the gL and Σ 0 polarizations. The Σ 0 polarization is found to be positive and maximal. An amplitude analysis is performed for the K ∗ Λ and K ∗ Σ 0 reactions, and it is found that one natural parity transversity amplitude is dominant for the latter.
