3roton-antiproton elastic scattering at cm energy 540 GeV has been studied in the t range 0.14 ⩽ − t ⩽ 0.26 GeV 2 . The data is well fitted by an exponential form exp( bt ) with b = 13.3 ± 1.5 GeV −2 .

INCLUSIVE PRODUCTION OF NONSTRANGE MESON RESONANCES IN P N INTERACTIONS AT 19-GEV/C

Data on inclusive and semi-inclusive production of nonstrange meson resonances from a bubble chamber study of pn interactions at 19 GeV/c are presented. Most of the results concern ρ0 production. The inclusive cross-sectionσ(pn → ρ0+x)=(2.4±0.4) mb agrees well with pp data. The ρ0 cross-sections are equal in the protonlike and neutron-like hemispheres. The differential cross-sections are in general agreement with earlier observation in pp interactions. In the fragmentation region the approximate structure function can be described byEdσ/dx= =a(1−|x|)n withn=3.0±0.8 in agreement with recent predictions from quark counting rules. The production of ω(780) is observed in the reaction pn→pp+ω+X with a cross-section σ=(0.13±0.03) mb. There is indication of f0(1270) and g(1680) production.

THRUST DISTRIBUTIONS AND DECAYS OF THE UPSILON BOUND STATES

We have studied the topologies of hadronic events in e + e - annihilation data taken in the region of the upsilon resonances with the non-magnetic CUSB detectors at CESR. Using a thrust-like variable we compare the decay of ϒ, ϒ′ and ϒPrime; find for ϒ″ a significant excess of high thrust events, which we interpret as evidence for electric dipole transitions.

We have observed ϱ 0 production in e + e − annihilation to hadrons at high energies. The differential cross section at a centre of mass energy W , of 34 GeV, is presented. In the range 0.2< x < 0.7, we measure 0.33 ± 0.06 (stat.) ± 0.07 (syst.), 0.22 ± 0.06 ± 0.05 and 0.22 ± 0.02 ± 0.05 ϱ 0 /event at W = 14, 22 and 34 GeV respectively.

A Partial Wave Analysis of the $K^- \phi$ System Produced in the Reaction $K^- p \to K^+ K^- K^- p$ at 18.5-{GeV}/$c$

About 15 000 K − Φp events have been collected in the CERN Ω′ spectrometer. A partial-wave decomposition of the K − Φ system is performed. The 1 + SO + wave is dominant. The 0 − P0 + and 2 − P0 + waves are important and show resonant behaviour at ∼ 1.83 GeV (Γ ∼ 0.25 GeV) and ∼ 1.73 GeV (Γ ∼ 0.22 GeV) respectively. The first one can be interpreted as the second radial excitation of the kaon while the second one can be identified as one of the two L mesons.

Large Transverse Momentum Particle Production in $\alpha \alpha$ and $p p$ Collisions at the {CERN} {ISR}

The production of charged hadrons with high p T in αα collisions at √ s =126 GeV and pp collisions at √ s =31 and 63 GeV is compared, and the structure of the events associated with the high- p T particles is studied. The probability of finding associated particles close to the trigger particle increases strongly between √ s =31 and 63 GeV for pp collisions. For p T >2.5GeV/ c the αα/pp cross section ratio at the same energy per nucleon is measured to be 18.7 ± 2.0, to be compared with A 2 = 16, and a higher associated multiplicity is observed for αα.
