The cross sections of several exclusive reactions in p p interactions are given. In the channels p p → p p π + π − and p p → p p 2π + 2π − which dominate the interactions, the single and double diffractive dissociations are analysed and compared to the results obtained with K ± p interactions at the same energy, pp and p p interactions at other energies. The test of factorization at the p → p π + π − vertex is well verified. The process p p → Δ ++ Δ ++ is studied and the cross sections of Δ ++ , Δ ++ , ϱ 0 and f 0 production are also given.

We give cross sections for annihilation and non-annihilation reactions in p p interactions at 8.8 GeV. The non-annihilation data are compared with pp data from the same experiment. We compare data on resonance production and on the impact parameter structure of the final states in p p annihilation and non-annihilation and pp interactions. We investigate the charge structure of the 2 π + 2 π − π 0 final state, and find it consistent with a simple quark model.

We have investigated the reactions p p π + π − a ̊ and p p a ̊ p p 2π + 2π − at 100 GeV /c . The p p π + π − final state is dominated by diffractive production of a p π + π − ( or p π + π − ) system which shows a strong tendency to form Δ ++ π − ( or Δ ++ π + ) . The process p p a ̊ Δ ++ Δ ++ is also observed in this reaction, indicating an energy dependence of s −1.5±0.1 . The p p 2π + 2π − channel shows less single diffraction, and has a doubly diffractive component consistent with pomeron factorization. Strong Δ ++ ( Δ ++ ) production is agoain seen, but in contrast to the p p π + π − channel we also observe considerable ϱ 0 production.

The general features of p p interactions at 32 GeV/ c are analysed in a bubble chamber experiment with a statistics of 5.2 μb/event. The inclusive production of neutral strange particles and pions is analysed and compared to results obtained at other energies and in pp interactions. Total cross sections are determined for various 4C reactions and the relative contributions of diffractive dissociation and Δ Δ production to the reaction p p → p p π + π − are estimated.

TOTAL CROSS SECTIONS FOR 4C REACTIONS.
From 63 760 four pronged events we have selected 10 960 events of the p p π + π − final state. We have studied baryon resonances production and the associated production of Δ(1236) Δ (1236) isobars. We find (48.5 ± 2.6)% of Δ ++ Δ ++ and (4.5 ± 0.5)% of Δ 0 Δ 0 . Study of the various mass spectra shows that they are essentially described by the introduction of Δ ++ ( Δ ++ ) production. Introduction of the strong t dependence of the Δ ++ ( Δ ++ ) changes this description only slightly. A study of the interaction radius of the p π system reveals a best value of r = 1.6 ± 0.4 fm. Bumps observed in the p π + π − + c.c. system at 1450 and 1690 MeV when treated as resonances give rates of (4.0 ± 0.4)% and (4.5 ± 0.4)% respectively. We arrive at the conclusion that the reaction p p → p p π + π − at 5.7 GeV/ c proceeds almost entirely via the production of baryon resonances.
