Global Jet Properties at 14-{GeV} to 44-{GeV} Center-of-mass Energy in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation

Jet properties ine+e− annihilation at center of mass energies of 14, 22, 35 and 43.7 GeV were studied with the data collected in the TASSO detector at PETRA, using the same evaluation procedures for all the energies. The total hadronic cross section ratio for the center of mass energy interval 39–47 GeV was determined to be ℛ=4.11±0.05 (stat)±0.18(syst.) at\(\langle \sqrt s \rangle= 43 - 7\) GeV. Corrected distributions of global shape variables are presented as well as the inclusive charged particle distributions for scaled momentum and transverse momentum. The center of mass energy evolution of the average sphericity, thrust, aplanarity and particle momentum is shown.

Study of Hadronic Decays of the $\Z^0$ Boson

Hadronic decays of Z 0 bosons are studied in the Delphi detector. Global event variables and singel particles inclusive distributions are compared with QCD-based predictions. The mean charged multiplicity is found to be 20.6±1.0 (stat+syst). The mean values of the sphericity, aplanarity, thrust, minor value, p in T and p out T are compared with values found at lower energy e + e − colliders.

Photon - gluon fusion analysis of charm photoproduction.

Results on the photoproduction of 10 000 fully reconstructed charmed particles from the 108 recorded triggers of Fermilab experiment E691 have been analyzed in the photon-gluon-fusion model. We find that the total cross section, its rise with energy, and the pT2 and xF distributions can be explained by a high mass for the charm quark (mc=1.74−0.18+0.13 GeV/c2) and a soft-gluon distribution [G(x)∼(1-x)gn, where ng=7.1±2.2].

Influence of the collision centrality upon negative particle production in d C, alpha C and C C interactions at 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon

The influence of collision centrality upon spectra of negative particles produced indC, αC and CC interactions at 4.2 GeV/c per nucleon is studied. The netcharge of secondary particles is used as a measure of collision centrality. Comparison with the nucleon-nucleon collisions and with Dubna intranuclear cascade model is presented. The main features of the momentum, rapidity and angular spectra are compatible with the independent, nucleon-nucleon collision picture. Only in thepT spectra, the observed particle excess, for low and highpT, is inconsistent with this approach. In contrast to the pions, the spectra of protons are more sensitive to the collision centrality.

Measurements of Charged Particle Inclusive Distributions in Hadronic Decays of the $Z$ Boson

We have measured inclusive distributions for charged particles in hadronic decays of the Z boson. The variables chosen for study were charged-particle multiplicity, scaled momentum, and momenta transverse to the sphericity axes. The distributions have been corrected for detector effects and are compared with data from e+e− annihilation at lower energies and with the predictions of several QCD-based models. The data are in reasonable agreement with expectations.

MULTI - HADRON EVENT PROPERTIES IN e+ e- ANNIHILATION AT s**(1/2) = 52-GeV to 57-GeV

We present the general properties of multihadron final states produced by e+e− annihilation at center-of-mass energies from 52 to 57 GeV in the AMY detector at the KEK collider TRISTAN. Global shape, inclusive charged-particle, and particle-flow distributions are presented. Our measurements are compared with QCD+fragmentation models that use either leading-logarithmic parton-shower evolution or QCD matrix elements at the parton level, and either string or cluster fragmentation for hadronization.

A Search for the Top and $b^\prime$ Quarks in Hadronic $\Z^0$ Decays

We report on a search for new quarks in hadronic Z° decays. From the event shape analysis of a data sample containing 2185 multihadronic annihilation events, we observe no evidence for the top or b' quarks. We derive limits for the top and b' quark masses under the assumption of various possible standard model and non-standard model decay schemes. Our search is sensitive to quark masses larger than 23 GeV/ c 2 ; it yields the following lower limits at a 95% confidence level: 44.5 GeV/ c 2 for the top quark mass and 45.2 GeV/ c 2 for the b′ quark mass.
