First Measurements of Hadronic Decays of the $Z$ Boson

The MARK-II collaboration Abrams, G.S. ; Adolphsen, Chris ; Aleksan, R. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 63 (1989) 1558, 1989.
Inspire Record 282670 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20044

We have observed hadronic final states produced in the decays of Z bosons. In order to study the parton structure of these events, we compare the distributions in sphericity, thurst, aplanarity, and number of jets to the predictions of several QCD-based models and to data from lower energies. The data and models agree within the present statistical precision.

Sources of Complex Fragment Emission in Lanthanum Induced Reactions at $e$ / a = 14.7-{MeV} and 18-{MeV}

Charity, R.J. ; Jing, K.X. ; Bowman, D.R. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.A 511 (1990) 59-91, 1990.
Inspire Record 281064 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.36871

Complex fragments with 4 ⩽ Z ≲ 50 have been detected in the reactions of 139 La + 12 C and 27 Al at E / A = 14.7 and 18.0 MeV. From the measured angular distributions, the cross sections for the isotropic, target-like and projectile-like components were extracted. The roles of deep-inelastic, fast-fission, and incomplete fusion processes, and the statistical, compound nucleus emission of complex fragments are discussed.

Direct Photon Production at the {CERN} {ISR}

The CMOR collaboration Angelis, A.L.S. ; Basini, G. ; Besch, H.J. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 327 (1989) 541-568, 1989.
Inspire Record 279988 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.33181

A measurement of direct photon production in pp collisions at a center of mass energy ∝ s =63 GeV is reported. Arrays of lead-glass calorimeters and multiwire proportional chambers were used as photon detectors. Data are presented in the transverse momentum range from 4.5 to 10 GeV/ c and compared with QCD predictions. The event structure of this sample is compared with that of a set dominated by high transverse momentum π O ́ ' s .

Evidence for New States Produced in the Central Region in the Reaction $p p \to p$(f) ($\pi^+ \pi^- \pi^+ \pi^-$) $p(s$) at 300-{GeV}/$c$

The WA76 collaboration Armstrong, T.A. ; Benayoun, Maurice ; Beusch, W. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 228 (1989) 536-542, 1989.
Inspire Record 280165 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29783

The reaction pp→p f ( π + π − π + π − )p s , where the π + π − π + π − system is centrally produced, has been studied at 300 GeV/ c in an experiment designed to search for gluonic states. The π + π − π + π − mass spectrum shows evidence for the f 1 (1285) with a mass of 1281±1 MeV and a width of 31±5 MeV. In addition there is evidence for two new enhancements at masses of 1449±4 and 1901±13 MeV with widths of 78±18 and 312±61 MeV respectively. An analysis of the state at 1.45 GeV indicates that it is not a π + π − π + π − decay mode of the f 1 (1420) or ι η(1440) .

Phys.Lett.B 231 (1989) 208-212, 1989.
Inspire Record 279699 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.45199

Using the ARGUS detector at the DORIS II e + e - storage ring at DESY, we have observed a new charmed meson of mass (2469±4±6) MeV/ c 2 , decaying to D 0 π + . This state is a strong candidate for the charged isospin partner of the D ∗ (2459) 0 . The isospin mass splitting is measured to be (14±5±8) MeV / c 2 .

The general characteristics of inelastic proton-antiproton collisions at the CERN SPS Collider are studied with the UA1 detector using magnetic and calorimetric analysis. Results are presented on charged particle multiplicities and transverse and longitudinal momenta, and on total transverse energy distributions at centre of mass energies ranging from 0.2 to 0.9 TeV.

New Measurement of the Production Polarization and Magnetic Moment of the Cascade Minus Hyperon

Trost, L.H. ; McCliment, E.R. ; Newsom, C.R. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 40 (1989) 1703, 1989.
Inspire Record 280604 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23053

We have measured the production polarization and magnetic moment of a sample of 89×103Ξ− hyperons produced in the inclusive reaction p(400 GeV/c)+Cu→Ξ−+X. The weighted average of the polarization is -0.070±0.008±0.010 at a pt of 0.63 GeV/c. The Ξ−'s magnetic moment yields the value μΞ=−0.661±0.036±0.036 nuclear magnetons. The first error is statistical, the second systematic.

The Spin Correlation Parameter and Analyzing Power in $n p$ Elastic Scattering at Intermediate-energies

Abegg, R. ; Ahmad, M. ; Bandyopadhyay, D. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 40 (1989) 2684-2696, 1989.
Inspire Record 281880 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26220

In order to improve existing I=0 phase shift solutions, the spin correlation parameter ANN and the analyzing powers A0N and AN0 have been measured in n-p elastic scattering over an angular range of 50°–150° (c.m.) at three neutron energies (220, 325, and 425 MeV) to an absolute accuracy of ±0.03. The data have a profound effect on various phase parameters, particularly the P11, D23, and ε1 phase parameters which in some cases change by almost a degree. With the exception of the highest energy, the data support the predictions of the latest version of the Bonn potential. Also, the analyzing power data (A0N and AN0) measured at 477 MeV in a different experiment over a limited angular range [60°–80° (c.m.)] are reported here.
