The ratio R of inclusive π + π − production at low transverse momenta is measured in π + n and pn interactions at 195 GeV/ c . R ( 1 R ) in the proton (neutron) fragmentation region increases with Feynman- x and is smaller than R from π + fragmentation. The results agree with a quark-quark scattering model originally proposed for “hard” processes and disagree with a modified version of the model which includes gluon scattering.

We present measurements from a counter-optical spark chamber experiment of the differential cross sections for p̄p → π 0 π 0 , π 0 η 0 at 25 momenta in the range 1.1 − 2.0 GeV/ c (c.m. energy 2.12 to 2.43 GeV). Approximately 750 000 pictures were taken in the experiment.

The differential cross section has been measured at 30, 50, 80, 100, 120 and 140 GeV/ c for 0.002 < | t | < 0.04 ( GeV / c ) 2 . The results show that the π − p real part goes from negative to positive values below 80 GeV/ c . The slope parameter in the t -region measured is significantly higher than what has been found − t = 0.2 (GeV/ c ) 2 .

We present a partial wave amplitude analysis of the differential cross sections for p̄p → π 0 π 0 at 25 energies from 2.12 to 2.43 GeV. The results suggest the presence of a J PC I G = 2 ++ 0 + resonance at 2.15 GeV. An isospin decomposition of p̄p → π + π - is also presented.

We have extended our survey of the reaction γ+p→p+e++e− by collecting 20 000 additional e+e− pairs in the invariant-mass region 900<m<1500 MeV. The measured interference pattern shows two enhancements at mass values of 1097 and 1266 MeV. The parameters of those structure, when interpreted as vector mesons in the VDM framework, are given.

Production of Ξ − and Ξ + hyperons has been studied in 16 GeV/ c π − p interactions. Cross sections are given for Ξ − and gX + production. We present results for the differential cross sections of neutrinos and antineutrinos on nucleons in the energy range E = 2−200 GeV, from the BEBC and Gargamelle experiments. The structure functions F 2 , 2 χF 1 and χF 3 have been evaluated as a function of χ and q 2 . Deviations are observed from Bjorken scaling, which are very similar to those found in electron and muon inelastic scattering. For the Callan-Gross ratio, we find 2χF 1 F 2 = 0.80 ± 0.12 and the corresponding value for 〈R〉 = 〈 σ S σ T 〉 = 0.15 ± 0.10 . Our results are consistent with the Gross-Llewellyn-Smith sum rule; we measure ⩾2.5 ± 0.5 valence quarks per nucleon. Quark and antiquark distributions are given. The Nachtmann moments of F 2 and χF 3 are quantitatively consistent with the predictions from QCD. The value of the strong interaction parameter is λ = 0.74 ± 0.05 GeV without corrections, and 0.66 ± 0.05 GeV including α S 2 corrections. The moments of the gluon distribution are found to be positive and indicate an χ distribution of gluons which is comparable with that of the valence quarks.

We report on inclusive hadron production in e+e− annihilation at 〈s〉=53 GeV2, using a small solid-angle magnetic spectrometer with good particle identification at 90° to the beams at SPEAR II. The cross sections of π± and K± when compared with data at s=23 GeV2 exhibit scaling in (sβ)dσdx with x=2Es12. The invariant cross section depends on the momentum as p−4.

From a muon-proton scattering experiment with a streamer chamber at the Stanford Linear Accelerator we present results in the ranges 0.3<Q2<4.7 GeV2 and 1.7<W<4.7 GeV for the reactions μ+p→μpV where V is a vector meson (ρ0, ω, or φ). It is shown that in ρ production the skewing parameter and the longitudinal-transverse ratio change significantly as Q2 increases above 1 GeV2. The cross section for ρ0 production as a function of Q2 falls below the vector-meson-dominance prediction. The ratio of the cross section for exclusive vector-meson production to the total cross section falls by a factor of 10 between photoproduction and a Q2 of 2 GeV2, yet the ratio of ω to ρ production remains constant at the photoproduction value out to Q2>2 GeV2.

We observe a narrow resonance in the reaction e + e − → hadrons using the DASP detector at the DORIS storage ring. The mass is found to be (9.46 ± 0.01) GeV and the observed width is compatible with the storage ring resolution of ±8 MeV. The energy-integrated cross section results in an electronic width Γ ee = (1.3 ± 0.4) keV.
