We present results of measurements on photoproduction of ρ mesons. Analysis of 106 measured ρ events in a four-dimensional data matrix dσ(A, m, p, t⊥)dΩdm with dimensions 14×20×10×20 yields precise information on nuclear density distributions for ρ production. We obtain for the Woods-Saxon radii R(A)=(1.12±0.02)A13 and, using the vector dominance model, σρN=26.7±2.0 mb and γρ24π=0.57±0.10.

We have measured large-angle electron-positron pairs from the reaction γ +Be → Be+e + +e − in the e + e − invariant-mass region of 610 < m < 850 MeV/ c 2 . The phase of the photoproduction amplitude of the ϱ-meson at 4.1 – 6.1 GeV was found to deviate from pure imaginary by 11.8° ± 4.4° which corresponds to a ratio of the real to imaginary ϱ-nucleon amplitude of β = −0.2 ± 0.1.

Production cross sections for channels involving Ξ + particles (20.9 −3.4 +6.1 ) ub, Ξ − particles (2.3 ± 1.0) ub, Ω + particles (an upper limit of ≲ 1 ub), and other strange particle channels, are given. An Ξ + production mechanism is suggested, in terms of a double-Regge exchange model, not involving exotic trajectories. The values of the Ξ + mass (1321.6 ± 0.8) MeV/ c 2 and lifetime (1.55 ± 0.20 0.35 × 10 −10 sec are in good agreement with those of the Ξ − .

Experimental study of the reaction $\pi^- p \to \Lambda K^0$ at beam momenta between 930 and 1130 MeV/c

We have used an optical spark-chamber spectrometer to perform a systematic study of the reaction π−p→ΛK0 at beam momenta between 930 and 1130 MeV/c. The cross section, angular distribution, and Λ polarization have been measured. We present our complete data from a sample of 11 400 events along with Legendre polynomial coefficients for the angular distributions. No striking cross-section enhancement at ΣK threshold is observed, but there is evidence for a small cusp effect. A simple model which takes account of the ΣK channel provides a good fit to our data.

Search for structure in pi- p ---> lambda k0 at sigma k threshold

We have measured the cross section, the angular distribution, and the Λ polarization for the reaction π−p→ΛK0. A spark-chamber spectrometer was used to collect 8400 ΛK0 events at fourteen beam momenta near ΣK threshold. Our data do not show the prominent cross-section enhancement suggested by some previous experiments. However, detailed structure in the cross section and the angular distribution agrees well with a simple model which includes a cusp effect at ΣK threshold.

Measurement of the Transverse Spin Dependence of the p p Total Cross-Section in the 1-GeV/c-3-GeV/c Region

Phys.Lett.B 73 (1978) 235-238, 1978.
Inspire Record 134224 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27471

The pp total cross section difference between pure transverse spin states was measured in the laboratory momentum range 1–3 GeV/ c . Significant differences were found and these differences show striking energy dependence. This structure is in disagreement with the predictions of simple exchange models.

Multiplicity of Secondary Particles in Inelastic Proton - Neon Interactions at 300-{GeV}/$c$

The data on the total inelastic and partial cross sections in pNe interactions at 300 GeV are presented. It is found that the total cross section, σin(pNe)=356±13 mb, and multiplicity distributions of the number of negative and relativistic charged particles are in good agreement with predictions of a multiple-scattering model based on Glauber's approach. The multiplicity of negative particles obeys the Koba-Nielsen-Olesen (KNO) scaling, but it is observed that the KNO function depends on the atomic mass number of the target. From an analysis of the average multiplicities of secondary particles, it is shown that approximately 10 percent of the fast (p≳1.2 GeV) positive secondaries are protons, which are derived from the nucleons in the neon nucleus.
